Let me preface this with the understanding that this product is expensive, and requires an apple tv (other models can use the wink hub etc.) to be able to take full advantage of the benefits. However, now having it for a few months I can say it's worth the money.
reason #1. The abiltiy to check the door and lock it away from home using your iphone. It's great to be able to walk the dogs without having to worry about bringing keys with you. As a northerner living in the hot humid south, you won't catch me walking 2 miles in anything but gym clothes that doens't have alot of pockets. Between 2 dogs, their garmin XC collars, the remote, bags, treats, cell phone. My hands are full when I walk out the door. This lets me use siri to make sure the door is locked, and unlocked as I approach home.
Reason #2. I have been a fan of keypad locks since 2005 when I had roommates, where you could give them their own codes without having to worry about them copying keys. This allows a friend, neighbor, or anyone else to have reasonable access to your home, with the ability to take it away without having to ask for a key back.
Reason #2.5 The reason why this outperforms standard key pads, is that you can limit the hours in which certain codes have access! This is GREAT for contractors. I can let a painter have access to my house for painting on monday, but there is no reason for him to show up 2 am later that week!
Reason #3 (still related to number 2) You can see who'se code was used! Even if you didn't set times a code was available, and someone who wasn't supposed to be there entered, you can see who did it. This is HUGE. The lock keeps a log of how it was locked, such as thumb turn, or if it was a code, whos code was used. Contractor trying to charge you for 10 hours of work? Check to make sure he didn't show up 3 hours late and left 2 hours early.
Reason #4. People worry about "hackers"... If someone wants to get in your house, there are easier ways. The best thing about this lock is a built in alarm that goes off if an incorrect code is used, or someone tries to force open the door. Another A+ feature I didn't think about when buying this.
Reason #5 Battery powered so the install was as easy as a normal deadbolt, and I also re-keyed it my self to match other existing locks. The batteries last a long time (still at %100 told via iphone app) This is another huge feature. no worries about knowing the battery life!
TL:DR version! - A iphone capable tamper proof lock that you can give individual codes that have limited access windows, with the abiltiy to see history! I will be buying another!
