Crack isolation & moisture protection
The uncoupling membrane is a great alternative to heavier tile backer boards. The membrane can provide a waterproof floor protection under your tile when installed correctly. The membrane is light weight, easy to cut and goes down super fast.

While more expense that backer, this item is easy to lay, and easy to tile once down. Doesn’t raise the floor as much, and super easy to work with. Make sure you use modified thin set to lay it. I put it over USB and have had no issues this far.

This product is just fantastic. It transformed our floor. We started to tile the kitchen without it then after watching a youtube video on this product I used it on our bathroom floor. We actually ripped up the kitchen tiling in order to put this down first then re-tile.

The product worked exactly as expected and hoped. It resides under our slate floor and so long as the tiles don't crack then the Ditra was worth it. We won't know for many years - but since our contractor recommended it due to the cracks in our slab floor - we went for it.
