Not happy- Not a typical Scott product
Not happy with this blend. I used it to seed a fairly large area that was dug up to replace my underground electric supply. Some of it grows very rapidly looking light green and stalky. It grows 2-3x faster than my established lawn. Hopefully , based on your feed back to others , it will "settle down" and grow/look more consistent with my established lawn.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Contractors Mix and appreciate your feedback. When grass is young and newly germinated it is immature and will have a different color and texture than established grass. Regular mowing and fertilizing will help it mature to its proper color and texture. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. if you love crab grass, get Scott’s Turf Builder!
This is not lawn grass, it is crabgrass. Now I need to poisen and dig up an acre of lawn to undo the damage of Scott’s and Home Depot employeee who recommended this invasive weed. NO NO NO!!!

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Contractors Mix and appreciate your feedback.

There are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot of native soil. Soil preparation brings weed seeds to the surface, so it is normal to have some weeds germinate when seeding. Soil amendments such as manure and straw often contain weed seeds. Weed seeds can be blown or carried into the area prior to the grass seed becoming established.

All Scotts seed is thoroughly cleaned and is 99.9% weed seed free; in fact, The Scotts Advantage states weeds are removed from our crops by filtering Scotts seed 3 times. Our grass seed is harvested in June/July, well before the time of crabgrass maturity, which occurs during late summer when it sets seed. Therefore, it's not possible for our crop can be contaminated with crabgrass seeds.

We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 877-220-3089 if we can further assist. Scotts

        Grass isn't growing
I started planting this contractor's mix after I ran out of the other brand of seed I was using. I prepared the soil, put plenty of seed down, and watered it daily plus it's been raining for the last week plus. I'm not seeing anything. In the picture below where I planted the other seed, you'll see plenty has sprouted. Where I put the Scott's mix is the mud patch. It's been over three weeks now. There should be something.

Depending on conditions and the seed type, the grass can take from 4 to as many as 21 days to start to germinate. Germination requires air temperatures consistently above 65 degrees. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. If a weed control is used, it will either prevent the seeds from germination outright or destroy the seedlings as they emerge.

reseeding with this caused crabgrass nightmare
I see lots of crabgrass spots all over my front lawn after reseeding with this. Avoid at all cost, save yourself from dealing with crabgrass.

            Preparation is the key.
You see a lot of lawns on here with weeds in the grass. If you prepare your lawn prior to seeding it. Itwill come out nice and weed free.

              Pretty Miserable Grass Mix
The seed mixture, as others noted, has a grass much thicker, and worse, grows much faster than the rest of the grass. It creates an unkept appearance to the grass in just a few days. Instead of weekly, I need to cut every 4-5 days. Makes for an ugly lawn.

Filled with tall fescue (or some other grassy weed?)
This grass looks nice until you realize what it's growing. It's more than half of chunky, lime-green, fast-growing unmanageable tall fescue (I believe that's what it is at least... which is different than the fine fescue advertised on the packaging). Not good for your everyday backyard. I don't know yet if I'm seeing this issue with Scott's other type of grass seed mix that I'm trying, but it seems better so far...

                  not the best seeds
I wish i read most of the reviews before buying this bag. Just like most people report you get grass that has the has an appearance to that of crab grass that is now all over my yard. I have started to pull them but they are so many. For $40 of this bag Scotts really need to consider pulling it off shelf

                    Full of weeds
We hauled in a truckload of topsoil and put this down last fall. Our front yard is now full of weeds. Very little actual grass....90 % of it Is weeds. Very disappointing for a Scott’s product.

                      Too many tall grass
I bought this product and over seeds my lawn hoping for thicker lawn. Now my lawn has too many of grass that has bigger blades. This type of grass grow taller, faster and stand out so obviously with light brighter green. This really ruins my even drank green looking lawn. Please see in the attached picture. I have seen other reviews mentioned this problem but no solution to it. Is there a way, a chemical, a solution to get rid of this kind of grass without to dig out my entire lawn?

I have two large dogs that play and tear my yard up. After a decent snow this winter I decided to start over. So I turned my dirt (I barely had any grass) and dropped some organic fertilizer (also at home depot and pet friendly). I spread the Scotts contractors mix pretty evenly covering the entire yard. The results were really good .. I must admit much better than some of the higher priced grass seed I've purchased in the past. Lots of grass, not to many weeds and it only took about month. I still have some patches, where the dogs drop daily as soon as they walk out the door .. but rest of the yard filled in nicely .. for the money, I'd use this product again ..

Lots of crabgrass.... I used the product when I seeded an entire bare lawn on our new house because my dad had really good luck with his yard just 20 minutes away from where I live. I thought I was getting really good and fast results until I realized that most of my yard was all crabgrass. Since crabgrass dies off yearly my yard has a ton of dead spots in it now that everything is turning green again. I have already added a crabgrass preventer to hopefully stop more of this from coming in and I will try to re-seed in a couple months with better results hopefully....

Good product. Good (85%+) germination. Grass grows strong and quick. Had to seed a drainage ditch. Long with some steep parts. Prepped the dirt (not great soil, but general dirt), spread the seed per recommended rate on bag, going over the area twice as recommended for hand seeder. Added Scotts starter fertilizer per directions (really important considering the poor soil/dirt I was asking this to grow in). Covered with Curlex woven erosion control mat. Watered by hose 1x a day. First shoots in 5 days. And the picture shows what it looks like in 3 weeks. (the "bare" sections in the image are the overlapped areas of the mulch mats - grass is growing there as well, but much of it is being bent over underneath for now.) Central Main (Penobscot County), seeded late summer, early fall.

Purchased this product for a house I just purchased. The lawn had large patches with dead grass or no grass at all. Even though it's July I figured I'd give this a shot. On the 4th of July I loosened the soil with a bow rake and pulled up as much dead grass as I could. Then I covered everything with Scotts Premium Topsoil. I planted Contractor Mix Grass Seed on the bare spots using a push spreader and the recommended settings. Since I bought a 20 lb bag I took the opportunity to overseed my lawn as well. I've been watering twice a day for about an hour each time. After 5 days I began to see sprouts. Now it's been 2 weeks and the grass is 2-3 inches tall and nearly blends in with the surrounding grass. I couldn't be happier with the performance of this product and would highly recommend it, even for hot summer growing!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.....I would rate this a zero if possible. I tested this grass seed before even putting any in my yard. I used a clear storage tub, and put about 3 to 4 inches of Scotts lawn soil in the container, then put the seed in evenly... not to little/not to much seed. I put a thin layer of soil over the seed to make soil contact on both sides. Then I watered it every day enough to keep the seeds moist and barely got anything. This was all Scott's products from the seed to the dirt. I babied this stuff and I think the only seeds that grew were the annual ones that will die off. This is a complete waste of time and money. The picture I'm attaching is after 3 1/2 weeks of babying this stuff.

This product costs about one-half as much as the regular Scotts grass seed, so that is good. But look at the label of ingredients to learn that about 11 percent of the seed is ANNUAL rye grass, and not PERRENIAL rye grass. That means it will die after one season or sooner.
