I tried the rest, but Scott's Halts (actually of all Scotts products) are the very best! Yes, like everything else, the price of Scotts has risen. Obviously, Scotts has to pay more for end products and labor, just like all businesses do. After spreading "Halts" I give it a good watering with lawn sprinklers. I've gotten bags with clumps in the past as well. I'm sure Scotts does everything they can to keep clumps from forming, but if there's moisture, there's going to be clumps. They break up easily, so no big deal in my opinion. The secret I found out to making Halts work, is to insure you don't edge too deeply next to curbs, driveways, and whatever else. If you do edge too deep, it breaks the "Halts" barrier, and weed seeds can then get a foothold. Once weeds get established, underground rhizomes will start moving and takeover your lawn grasses, causing an ugly mess! I highly recommend Scotts products. I've purchased big box store discount fertilizers, but they can't begin to compete with Scotts. Hoping everyone the best this year!

Higher price, lower quality, there was so much moisture in this package, that the clumps were hard as rocks, very difficult to put through my spreader.

Not sure why one would go with a premium brand? Scott’s is more expensive than others, but not worth it. Had large clumps that I broke apart with my hands, but still couldn’t even get to spread. What in the picture is so clumped it would not spread on the highest setting. I can even use what is left. Save some money and get something else.

I ordered 2, 15000 sf bags of Scotts Turf Builder Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Fertilizer. I received both bags and put them in the garage. A week later i had the yard all ready to put it down. I opened both bags and they were wet inside with large brick like chunks. I sttempted to break up all chunks with a hammer, screwdriver and other tools. It took over an hour. I made a mess on the driveway. Dumped a bag and a half in my spreader and because it was so wet and sticky, it would not spread. How can i return 2 opened bags? It is still in my pull behind spreader with a cover over it Over $150.00 in ruined fertilizer. Surely someone should be feeling these bags before being sent to the customer. I’m contacting Home Depot to see how i can get them returned as it will be a mess. They were mailed directly from Scotts as far as i can determine

I accidentally posted this under the wrong product! Scotts folks, you can delete the one under the other Halts Grassy Weeds product. I used this product and it didn't seem to work. However, I had an interesting incident with it. While using my spreader on a hill, it tipped briefly and spilled a decent chunk of material on the lawn. I scraped up what I could, but over time, what was left washed down the hill. Where the bulk of the product fell, the grass died. I wasn't surprised at that. But the picture shows what happened with the product that washed down the hill. The grass is green and weed free. Beautiful. The first pic is from about 8 weeks ago, second pic is today. What I conclude is, though applied according to directions, the application was not heavy enough. That's Scott's fault. My concern is that the directions "stretch" the application area beyond what is realistic to make the price seem more favorable? I'll use again next year, but at heavier rates.

Unhappy it’s an understatement.Contents of the bag were clumped together.Some of them were easy to break. Some of them were crystallized hard as a rock I started spreading the fertilizer, and soon I realized that I was not spreading anything because of the clogged spreader. I tried to break the clumps 2-3 times and in the end I managed to spread it.I have no idea to what result. Only time will tell.Not HD fault. It looks like an initial quality problem,

Recently bought this a week ago. Went to put it down with a Scotts Turf Builder spreader and started to pour it from the bag it started coming out in big clumps. Tried to break them up. Then started to put onto the lawn I could tell it was clogging up because less was coming out. The whole process took more then twice as long because of how the product clumped up. Very disappointed. Now I can only hope the product works since I have no way of knowing how much was put down.

I’m on the Scott’s program, 5 times a year for the last 9 years. Success goes along with Applications.

Works well. I wish application timing would better accommodate spring aeration.

It works well but putting some water on lawn before you apply would help it work better on weeds.

Spent almost $200 on Turf Builder with Halts and my lawn looks like crap. Big patches of crabgrass throughout. Put down as per directions at same time as last year but crabgrass grew everywhere.

I used this product per instruction. The fertilizer did a nice job of greening and perking up the grass. It apparently also fertilized the clover, dandelions, and crabgrass as especially the clover is taking over.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do when it’s supposed to do it

Turf Builder has always helped in the past, yet it’s too early to say “for sure,” about these two Applications that I spread on my front yard!

Lawn looks fantastic! Always great results using Scotts products.

I don't see any dandelions

I just applied the product today. The yellow die in the product makes it easy to see where it is on the ground but also has ruined my shoes and jeans. Why why why???

Usually this is a great product. But this bag was hard as a rock and breaking the boulders of clumped fertilizer made even distribution through a spreader difficult and time consuming. This item was selected by an employee and delivered curbside.

My grass looks great! I normally pay a company to treat my lawn and decided this year I can do it myself, this product has exceeded me expectations, my grass looks fuller, it’s thicker, and greener than normal. The rain has helped really nourish this treatment.... very pleased consumer!

I swear by the Scott's app and productsnfor my Northern Va lawn. However, I put down Turf Builder/Crab Grass preventer a week ago (as recommeded by Scotts). Followed the instructions very carefully. Crabgrass is going stronger than ever and chickweek has invaded my beautiful lawn. It is greener, but now full of weeds. Scotts did not seem to have any impact AT ALL on the Chickweed and Crabgrass. Please help.

Spread out fertilizer 10 days ago, just mowed first time today. Looking good! Followed directions precisely. Can’t tell from photo but grass is getting thicker and greener than any others on street.

I have used Scotts products for decades but in the past two years the crabgrass preventer has failed miserably. I have the worst crabgrass infestation in the neighborhood despite using the Turf Builder with Halts in the early spring. I planted the lawn by hand five years ago and it was beautiful for three years. Then I used the Turf Builder Triple Action with terrible results. Hundreds of crabgrass clumps emerged and I dug many up and used spray to kill many others. This year I used the Turf Builder with Halts and had the same lousy result. I believe that Scotts has changed the formula for the pre-emergent because I never had these problems in the past.

The product worked well when applied according to directions. My lawn is a nice deep green with no crabgrass.

Scott's Turf Builder with Halts is the best early season fertilizer I've used.

This did wonders for my grass. I did hydroseed the year prior and after the winter my yard was yellow, very patchy, and at the end of last year was full of crab grass in places. A few weeks after I used Scotts turf builder and crab grass preventer my yard is green and I can barely keep up with mowing it it's so healthy! Can't wait to put the weed and feed on next month!

I am hoping this product will prevent new crabgrass from growing and applied it according to timeframe suggested by Scott's. It is too early to tell if it will work since the crabgrass doesn't appear this early in the season. Our grass is nice and green now and we have gotten a fair amount of rain over the past several weeks.

Normally like Scotts products but my last bag (4/20) had solid clumps in it that I couldn't break up. More than the picture shows. Probably wasted about 500 sq. feet worth. I don't mind the breakable clumps as long as there's not too many. I actually took a pic and sent it to Scotts, no response.

Bought recently and applied May 7th. Not pleased with the large hard chunks in the bag. Had to break up and problems plugging the spreader. Photo shows condition after breaking up some chunks.

I laid down this product in early spring as well as Scotts WeedEx prevent with Halts in the fall. My yard has never looked this bad. I've been using Scotts products for over 15 years. The past couple of years have been disappointing. Neither of my next door neighbors have these types of weeds. You used to see a clear barrier between lawns, with mine being the best. Not anymore.

Home Depot did a great job of delivering the product which I had ordered on line. I would have rated everything a five star except I did encounter a small issue when I applied the fertilizer to my yard, there were clumps in the fertilizer which wouldn't flow through the broadcast spreader until I 'gloved up' and manually crushed the lumps (some of which were softball size). Not sure this has anything to do with Home Depot it may be more to do with how long the product was sitting around before sale. I would repurchase the same thing from Home Depot again and I appreciated the delivery service very much. We had a freak snow storm two days after I applied the Scotts Turf Builder with Crabgrass Preventer to my yard. :)
