A true weed preventer

This goes on evenly and spreads nicely across my grass, and I don’t need to worry about hitting any spots of fresh grass. Somehow, the way this product is made it won’t kill good grass. It only kills and seems to prevent weeds from coming through.

Best crab grass killer ever.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Well it’s been raining for about a month. So it’s hard to get this out but I finally did and I’ve sprinkled it everywhere I m so glad I got this. I have crab grass going crazy with all this rain. But I’ve always used this and it works great it’s the best. Wouldn’t get or use anything else if you want something that works anyway.

Timing matters, but this works great

Timing does matter as this has to be placed before crabgrass emerges. This is easy to use and spread out. The color makes it easy to see where you put this down already. I look forward to using this year after year to keep my grass protected.

Wonderful!

While my neighbors pay professionals tons of money and have great lawns, I achieve the same results by simply visiting my neighborhood hardware store or Scotts.com and follow the recommendations of the personalized lawn care plan. It could not be any easier!
For Scotts Halts Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer, I apply in the early spring (as I live in Minnesota, spring time is never consistent), and it prevents the pesky crabgrass that creeps up. I also like to apply it in the fall to make things easier in the spring time. The nice thing about this is if I apply it too early or too late in the year, snow and freezing temperatures do not affect it.

Crabgrass seed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has helped kill my crabgrass. It is easy to use, and it takes care of the weeds. The instructions are easy to follow. It makes our grass look healthier with less weeds. It’s a decent sized bag, but you may need more depending on the size of your yard. I reduced the infestation at least 99%. Now I can count on my hand the number of POA that sprout every year, its very minimal. I think it does a great job if used on a regular basis and given time to work.

Works good

Working great even when applied later than usual.

Effective

Directions are easy to follow

I know so it's more effective when you apply pre spring before the weeds start growing. It is okay to apply during freezing temperature so that you're ready for it to start working when spring. It also kills more weeds than just crabgrass.

It Does The Job
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you want a crabgrass Free Lawn, then your best bet is to use this Scotts Halts Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer. Be sure to set the dial on your spreader on the right number so you're not spreading too little or too much. once you're done spreading it even onto to you lawn, make sure you water your lawn thoroughly as the crabgrass preventer needs to penetrait into the soil to prevent germination so no crabgrass will be able to grow and take over your lawn. Follow the steps on the back of the back and your lawn will be crabgrass free!

Crabgrass Free Lawn
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Scotts Halts Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer does the job of leaving my lawn free of crabgrass. I really dislike it when my lawn looks really good and what seems like overnight crabgrass has taken hold of many areas in my lawn. To prevent this from happening I always use Scotts Halts Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer. The trick to using this is that you have to put it down before germination happens to PREVENT it hence the name. Once you see the crabgrass in your lawn, I feel like it's too late to put anything down to prevent it from taking over your lawn and you have to do the old method of pulling by hand and making sure you get the roots too. Once you put it down (spread it) you need to water so it can do the job. I watch the weather and see when rain is coming as it will need a good watering. Why use my water when mother nature can do the job for free. just make sure it's NOT a down pour that it's going to get washed away. A steady rain is perfect BUT if weather conditions are not permitting, go ahead and set your sprinklers on and water away .I use a drop spreader and go back and forth overlapping slightly to make sure I don't miss any areas and let mother nature do her job the next day when it rains and your lawn and mine will be crabgrass free and no pulling crabgrass by the hands.

Very dissapointed
Bought and applied in Mid-April 2024 in Minnesota. Looked up application charts, and followed the weather to see when was the ideal time, and applied according to directions. Crabgrass is the worse I have seen and taking over lawn. Thought by buying brand name product and spending more I would get better results.

Timing of application is important, should be applied in early Spring before the 3rd or 4th mowing, before temperatures are regularly in the 80's, and before dandelions reach white "puffball" stage. Made my weeds worse!
I put down 2 bags on 8,000 sq ft of Bermuda and St. Augustine in September, and have more POA, chickweed, and crabgrass now (March) than I’ve ever had before. It’s almost like it contained seeds for the weeds.

Great Product
