"Scotts Turf Builder is amazing! If your goal is to grow the most impressive, lush weeds your neighborhood has ever seen, this is the product for you. I now have a beautiful variety of grassless patches that perfectly complement my garden of dead plants. Truly thrives in all conditions—especially when those conditions are ‘nothing grows here!’ Highly recommend for anyone looking to embrace the natural look of a barren lawn."

No Grass on Bare Spots or Weeds
Had a retaining wall installed and contractor threw down some random seed and it came in about 10 days. Most of the area grew in exceed some random spots. Patch seeded with Scott's New Lawn Topsoil and then this combination seed. 12 days later I have nothing or weeds. Followed instructions. This was my second attempt with fertilized seed from Scott's and now my last product ever from them. Buy this if you want to redo and throw money away.

After 2 months less than half of the grass seeds produced. This grass seed is very expensive. I wouldn’t buy it again.

There are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot of native soil. Soil preparation brings weed seeds to the surface, so it is normal to have some weeds germinate when seeding. Weed seeds can be blown or carried into area prior to grass seed becoming established.

All Scotts seed is thoroughly cleaned and is 99.9% weed seed free. Our grass seed is harvested in June/July, well before the time of crabgrass maturity which occurs during late summer when it sets seed. Therefore it's not possible our crop can be contaminated with crabgrass seeds.

With special care you can have grass growing in 3 days. Water every AM and every evening (do not overdo) I utilized the Scott’s fertilizer for new grass also and used Scott top soil. I have thick grass in a matter of 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, germination rate was 20% at best on a prepped seed bed with ideal conditions and irrigation.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with (edit - insert product name) and appreciate your feedback.

You should start seeing germination in 6-14 days under ideal growing conditions and will take about a month for all the seed to germinate. You need to mow the grass short and rake or dethatch the area to remove dead grass and loosen exposed soil prior to applying grass seed. For this grass seed mix, which contains tall fescue, ryegrass, and kentucky bluegrass, soil temperatures must be at least 55F degrees for grass seed to germinate, with daytime consistently be above 65F degrees. Grass Seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80F degree range.

Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination, and any weed control used prior to seeding will prevent seed from germinating.

Figured I’d buy the good stuff for the front lawn. Watered 2-3 times a day and never let it dry out. Maybe 1/2 of it came up after a week. Still see the seed and fertilizer in all the huge bare spots. Not impressed at all.

Not sure if we received a bad bag but it's been 2 weeks and not one blade of grass has come up yet. I have been watering and its been raining for weeks here in CT. Find a better brand to use this one is not good.

Daytime temperatures need to consistently be above 65 degrees F. This grass seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80 degree F range. In the spring it takes a lot of consistent warm temperatures to warm up the soil, especially in Canada. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. Weed control used prior to seeding will prevent seed from germinating. Weed control product used on new seedlings will kill seedlings. Do not apply a weed control that is registered for lawn use to new grass until it has been cut at least 3-4 times.

        Loyal Customer says Goodbye!
I have been a loyal Scott’s customer for many years. Since they have repackaged the products to smaller quantities (32# instead of 40#) and doubled the price over the last 2 years, I will be purchasing another brand!

The seed did not grow despite top soil and hay seeding. It was on special. Wonder if the batch was old?

            Works great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This shade mix grass seed is great. It is so hard to get grass to grow under the trees in my yard because it never gets any sun. This grass seed mix worked wonders for covering the bare patches there. I would definitely recommend this product

Worked great until summer heat killed new growth
Great product. Started it in mid-spring & it grew in thick until mid-summer temperatures (28-34 c) killed off most of the new growth. The area gets 2-3 hrs of late afternoon sun daily. Gonna try again in the early fall. Hope the winter won't kill off the fall growth.

Scotts® Turf Builder® Grass Seed Tall Fescue Mix
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Scotts® Turf Builder® Grass Seed Tall Fescue Mix is some of the best grass seed I have ever used. I planted it shortly after receiving the seed and it has grown nicely in areas that other seed has not grown in the past.

Grows in shade like it says.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This grass seed will definitely grow in shade, but it will grow in slowly. I'm not sure if this is because of the cool spring that slowed germination. What has grown in is still alive and thriving in an area that had significant bare spots. This area does receive some sun, maybe 4 hours a day.
