Absolutely LOVE this vacuum!! Our first time vacuuming the house we kept hearing some odd sounds and couldn't quite figure out what it was. It ended up being all the stuff in our carpet that was traveling up the vacuums hose into the canister. There was so much stuff that it was making a tinkling sound. Once we figured it out we kept going over the same spots over and over until it stopped. We didn't realize how much stuff our old vacuum was leaving behind until using this one. This vacuum has a huge amount of suction and you can really tell it's getting a much deeper clean then our old vacuum. We have pretty deep carpeting and it feels so much softer and "lifted" after vacuuming that it's a huge difference from our old vacuum. When you walk across the floor after vacuuming we actually leave foot prints in the carpet now because it's so lifted up. This vacuum almost feels like a self propelled lawn mower when using it. I'm assuming it's because of the soft brushroll on the front of it. Usually when using a vacuum you have to push forward and pull back. On this one it pretty much drives itself forward and all you have to do is pull it back. This is one of the easiest and most comfortable vacuums I have ever used. It's been probably 20 years since we have had a vacuum with lights on the front of it and I used to always have a stash of spare bulbs because they never lasted that long. The LED's on the front of this vacuum are not just for show they actually work very well. They are quite bright and very helpful when vacuuming. Since they are LED's I won't have to have a stash of spares on hand like the old days. They made cleaning the brush bar quite easy also. There is a removable plastic cover on top that all you have to do to remove it is slide back two buttons (one on each side) and it pops right off. My wife and daughter both have long hair and the brush bar was full after vacuuming the whole house recently. It took about 5 minutes with the scissors to get all the hair out but it was pretty easy to do. On our old vacuum I had to flip it on its back and remove the bottom piece and cut it out. I like doing it from the top better. The slopes and angles of the vacuum give it a very sleek and modern look. The copper color of our vacuum makes it remind me of one of the Corvette colors I'm very fond of also. This vacuum is very easy to vacuum under things without losing suction. Our old vacuum lifted up if you pushed to far down on the handle. You can pretty much put the handle of this one on the floor and this one does not lift up at all. One other thing my wife noticed was this vacuum is not very loud like our old one was. I have never been a big fan of the ball type vacuums so this one seems a lot more stable when using also. Another thing you may not notice right away is you can remove the canister and re-attach the hose to the wand and use the vacuum like a canister vacuum. This makes it to where you can actually vacuum under a bed or elevated sofa and really get a nice deep clean without having to move a bunch of furniture around. You can also use it like this to vacuum stairs which is what my wife just did today. Me personally I kind of find it uncomfortable to use it on stairs this way but to each their own. My wife and I had two vacuums in our house prior to getting this one because we were tired of lugging one up stairs. Since this one gets the carpet so much cleaner then our old vacuum we now took one of our old vacuums into the garage to be used to vacuum out the cars and were going to give the other one away. The difference between our old vacuum and this one is night and day. Our old vacuums were both all plastic and made by a leading company but this one is so much better that they are getting kicked to the curb. Here is a few things from the manufactures website that you might find helpful also. Shark's ultimate full-size, multi-floor, pet-and-allergen cleaning experience. DuoClean® Technology features a bristle brush to deep clean carpets and an additional soft brushroll to pull in larger particles and directly engage floors for a polished look. This SHARK APEX DuoClean Speed Powered Lift-Away Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner does it all with great suction power, clever brush rollers, portable versatility, and quieter than most other similar models. Make sure to read instructions, especially the quick start sheet first because there are several things to know. I like the convenient floor type selection switch on the upper handle for easily selecting from hard floor to carpet to delicate area rug cleaning. It takes a little getting used to by the way it transforms from an upright to a portable hand held for cleaning steps and then attaching the cleaning accessories for high up reaching or under tight spaces. You will quickly get used to it! The two smaller attachment brushes and crevice tool store on the unit but the two larger tools do not and would be perfect if they did. Emptying the bag-less container is the best part by releasing the bottom door and the dirt simply falls out into the trash can.

Pros Easy to Empty Filter, Good for All Surfaces, Good Size & Lightweight, Looks Great, Lots of Features, Nice Design, Performs Well, Quiet, Self-Propelled, Strong Suction Cons doesn't store all attachments on the unit

I have used the Shark rotator lift away vacuum before and have been very pleased with its results. This iteration of the lift away series is a little different and better in some aspects. The vacuum works great with both hard wood and carpeted floors. I was not expecting it to be this good on carpet, but the dual brushes make a difference probably. The vacuum is very strong on the carpets and it glides effortlessly for a faster cleaning. It also comes with a lot of attachments, however the one I liked the most was under appliance wand. I was able to pull out "centuries-old" dust and other debris from underneath my range and refrigerator. This is a perfect vacuum overall, except one major gripe. The power button is on the the dust collector, for which you have to bend every time you need to turn it on or off. I really loved the on-off button on the handle with the rotator model. Although, if lift away mode is your priority then this might not be an issue.

I've owned and used this vacuum cleaner for about 6 weeks now and so far I'm totally impressed and happy with it. It has great suction power on carpets and rugs with two vacuuming selections for those; low pile which uses the brushrolls, and a thick carpet/area rug option. There's also a hard floor selector for vacuuming all kinds of non-carpeted floors. I've noticed on carpets/rugs, the vacuum sort of pulls you along, which I guess is the Active Glide Technology. I like that the motorized floor nozzle can turn left and right , which allows for much greater maneuverability (see my pictures). The built-in LED lights on the motorized floor nozzle are awesome for greater visibility, especially in dark areas. I love the Lift-Away, which allows you to lift the main pod/canister off of the motorized floor nozzle so you can use the floor nozzle to vacuum under furniture (see my picture) or to do above-floor vacuuming. The handle can be released two ways: hand-release for shorter reach with one of the accessories, and wand-release for longer reach with one of the accessories. The vacuum cleaner comes with four accessories: 1) a two-in-one pet multi-tool; 2) a two-in-one duster crevice tool; 3) an Anti-allergen dust brush; 4) a Multi-Flex Under Appliance Wand. I love the Anti-Allergen dust brush as dusting is by far my least favorite cleaning chore, and this accessory makes it quick and easy on most larger surfaces. The long Multi-Flex Under Appliance Wand (which is also expandable) is great for vacuuming up all the dust- and pet hair balls and probably food particles that tend to collect under my refrigerator and oven. Usually twice a year or so, I have to move those heavy appliances to sweep up all the dirt that has collected under them, but this vacuum accessory makes that completely unnecessary (yay!). The Multi-Flex accessory is also great for dusting (it has a short dusting strip attached to the underside) on top of high cabinets/shelves, etc., which are otherwise hard to reach. Initially, I was a bit disappointed that this vacuum cleaner did not come with a small brushroll accessory for vacuuming pet hair, which another much older model Shark vacuum cleaner I own includes and which I found very helpful, however, the Pet-Multi-Tool included with this Shark Apex does the job just as well and quickly (see my before and after pictures of pet hair on a pet bed pillow). The Duster Crevice accessory seems to be standard with most types of vacuum cleaners nowadays, but is still very useful. It's also very easy to detach the dust cup from the main canister and it can be emptied either from the top or the bottom. There are four dust filters, all of which can be easily removed and hand-washed in non-soapy warm water and re-used; a pre-motor foam and felt filter under the dust cup as well as two post-motor HEPA filter under the grill on the front of the main canister. I believe these filters can be replaced through Shark if any of them become damaged. This multi-purpose vacuum cleaner is awesome and you could probably use it for all of your dry vacuuming and dusting purposes and never have to pick up your Swiffer or dusting cloth again!

Finally a vacuum cleaner that really sucks, doesn't weigh a ton to push around, and is versatile enough to get into all the difficult places!. Out of the box there appear to be a lot of parts, but assembly using the Quick Start Guide makes it really easy. Here's a summary of what's good and also not so good about this cleaner. GOOD 1. Exceptionally good sucking power. I even used it in the garage to suck up dirt and leaves. 2. Longer than usual power cord. 3. Very bright light so I can easily see under kitchen cupboards, under furniture, and even in an unlit room. 4. Three settings on the handle for Hard Floor, Low Pile Carpet, and Thick Carpet, that are easy to change from surface to surface. On the Low Pile and Thick Carpet settings, the cleaner propels itself thus requiring less effort 5. Super versatile because there's a Handle Release for above-floor area cleaning, a Wand Release for an even longer reach, and the ability to actually remove the pod, yet it's still attached to the hose so the power sucking is not lessened at all. 6. Easy emptying of the dust cup and easy access to clean the filter 7. Swivels very well NOT SO GOOD 1. The vacuum is not able to travel over its own cord so you have to keep flipping the cord out of the way 2. There's a light on the machine that turns red if the brush roller is jammed, but it seems to come on at the drop of a hat, even when the brush roller isn't jammed. Turning the machine off and back on resets the light to green, but having to check the roller every time the light goes red is inconvenient 3. While I am thrilled with how well this cleaner sucks, it's a problem on my area rugs because it sucks too hard and they get jammed under the machine. I tried Hard Floor mode as that's the least powerful, but it still sucks up the edges of the rug into the machine. So now I shake the rugs and just vacuum my hard floor. 4. It comes with four accessories, but there's only two places on the machine itself to carry them. Despite the not-so-good list above, this is an awesome vacuum cleaner and well worth every penny. I always judge a cleaner by its "suck" and this one really delivers!

I had this unit assembled with the quick start directions in no time and was ready to go and give this vacuum a shot around on I understand my floors. When standing upright, it's definitely the tallest vacuum I have ever owned. But I know you do not vacuum that way. I understand why the power button is located where it is. But the floor selector I find to be in an awkward location.Lots of buttons and clips all over. Very heavy vacuum but solid & sturdy and it glides right along all my floors; you can tell it is definitely self-propelled or powered. The vacuum swivels right along and was a real pleasure to push around on my hard floors, area rugs and carpeting. The dust cup (not terribly large) was full and required to be emptied several times. The filters in the dust cup area are already dirty and need to be rinsed. When opening the dust cup from the bottom, its door has a tendency to want to close which makes the emptying of it tricky. The beater/rotating brushes are easy to clean which is a pleasure. The pathway lights are very bright and the suction is awesome. The cord wraps up on the side and stays out of the way when not in use. I really wish thought that the plug end of the power cord would actually clip and fit on the rest of the power cord. But try as I might, I couldn't get it to fit so the plug end of the power cord just sits there. The only other thing that annoys me is the 2 extra tools (of the 4 included pieces) have no place to sit on the vacuum so you need to find a place to keep them . All the tools work well and all the different cleaning tasks (upholstery, curtains, blinds) and angles showed a vacuum which did a great job for me. I did not consider the vacuum to be very loud either; I could actually hear the TV over its motor. Additionally, the cats and dog did not scatter like they normally did when Mom gets that "thing" out of the closet. I highly recommend this vacuum to everyone!

Pros Cleans Edges/Corners Well, Easy to Use, Good for All Surfaces, Great Value, Looks Great, Lots of Features, Nice Design, Performs Well, Self-Propelled, Strong Suction, Sturdy, quieter than most, swivels well, beater brushes clean up easily Cons Cord Length, Unbalanced, tricky to empty dust cup, not all tools fit on the vacuum, plug end of power cord does not fit on itself, top heavy

Shark APEX DuoClean Speed Powered Lift-Away Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner is not my first Shark vacuum. I've found it the best one I've had over the years and needed a second one so tried their latest model. Out of the box I was impressed with its more compact size and power when I started it up. I liked its improved anti-allergen high HEPA standard since I have pets. Shark has a number of models and this one fits my needs for both features and size. I've notice its layout and design is very similar to my older one, but with a big difference. They took what was a good machine and enhanced it, improving on it. The motorized brushroll sweeper head is redesigned from my older unit and is more capable. Its got two rollers each for a different kind of floor and dirt found (see photo.) The vacuum is lighter in the hand and easier to maneuver; although, the old model was good, too. It has brighter LED lights to see what you are cleaning. . I like the new attachments like the one for cleaning under appliances. I did some plastering and missed a bunch of the old plaster chips that got knocked out. The Shark found them and had no problem picking them all up, impressed. There are other attachments, but they are pretty standard. They mention better noise reduction, but I can't hear the difference, it still seems loud like a vacuum cleaner. Also, I like that it still has that low silhouette for cleaning down under furniture. The other aspect of the vacuum that I've come to take advantage of is how it adjusts to the way you work. With the canister attached in the the floor nozzle configuration it works much like a floor vacuum. If you need to get around, one can disconnect it from the stand up version and carry the canister in your hand or stand it on the floor. This makes it so much better for cleaning stairs or walking around dusting high up. They've dropped the roll-around plastic cart for those who know it and that's fine because I never needed it for cleaning the house. Shark comes with a seven year warranty that shows they will stand behind it. In summary, its definitely an improvement on what was and still is, in my opinion, a great vacuum.

The instruction book says to clean the foam filter after 3 months. I did only a very small section of carpet. When I emptied the dust container, the foam filter was loaded with fire dust. This baby is so powerful it just HAD to have a new, clean filter. Fortunately I had bought a set of filters the day I ordered the Apex, so I could go forward without a hitch. With the new filter, a week later I cleaned the same small area plus a small area of wood floor, and the foam filters were just as in need of cleaning. Since the foam filters protect the motor, I plan to check and clean them each time and maybe clean them. My old vac gave up awhile ago, so I expect it will be some time until I'll feel safe waiting 3 months between clean foam filter changes. Go Shark Apex!
