turned a "call a plumber" into a "I think I can" job

My old water heater was a standard 48" tall unit in a 36" tall crawl space. Someone dug a hole, lined it with plastic, set two concrete blocks in it, and placed the 48" tall water heater on top of the block.
I'm not a plumber and don't trust myself with a torch under a house.
With these fittings, I was able to get the job done. I cut the old copper pipe off, installed these, connected to the new water heater and BINGO! It works, no leaks.
Actually, one of the two I bought leaked. Not sure what the problem was. I returned to Home Depot, exchanged for a new one and it's all good.
If you want to change the hose every 6 months then buy this one. It has a black rubber lining that disintegrates and the particles clog the showers, sinks and washer. I'm sure if we didn't find the problem and replace this garden hose in disguise then it might have sprung a leak to boot!
I had one of those nightmare weekends where I had an unplanned water heater installation. I hate to sweat solder and these SharkBite connectors make water connections a breeze. The person that invented the ShartBite connectors is a genius! The braided stainless steel water heater connector is the way to go as it gives you a lot of flexibility in making the connections. I have 3/4" copper pipe and cut the pipe to the old water heater. I set the new water in place and made the water line connections using the ShartBite connectors. It was so simple. No leaks. I had hot water in no time. Thank you SharkBite and also to Home Depot for carrying their product.
Why would anyone ever go back to the conventional soldering method of installing devices. These sharkbite connectors are the greatest thing, especially for DIY'ers. Very easy to use and install, makes installing a water heater virtually painless! Sharkbite should give better instructions or at least have them readily available online. Pretty much just need to know where to mark the line so that you push the connector far enough...
