This worked very well. I managed to use a hammer and work one side fully in and proceeding to the other side of the plate. I used this for 2 2x6s. One plate on each side and it’s very strong.

Strong tie worked as it should to connect 2 pieces of timber together.

I had to use this mending plate to repair a structural stud in my garage where a previous owner poorly removed a window. I used these mending plates to bind together a butt joint, and then sandwiched it between additional studs. Installing these plates in-place was a little difficult due to the flex in the studs, but I was able to brace and drive them in. They deformed slightly as I drove them in place, but they actually ended laying perfectly flat. You'd have a hard time seeing any deformation once they were pounded in. So far, they're holding strong, though I have the additional insurance of new studs supporting the repaired one. All in all, I'm sufficiently satisfied with these mending plates.
