Safely hang or change pendant fixtures. Once the electrician or competent DIY-er has wired the socket in the ceiling box, you can finish wiring the light fixture to the plug half safely on a tabletop. The SkyPlug has a special 3-ball lift pin that can secure a 50 # load, though the device is rated for a 10 pound fixture. The socket is made to accept 12 or 14 gauge solid copper wire. The plug, 18 gauge solid SJT or SVT cord. Hanging is as simple as plugging in a lamp to an outlet. But when need to paint, just push the lever to release. You can unscrew the lever if you want the cleaner look but don't misplace it.w

What a great idea & a great product. This item allows you to connect a base unit ("SkyOutlet") inside your ceiling electrical box that connects to the wires in the attic. Then the second part of the unit and the metal base (or escutcheon) can be connected to any of your existing or new light fixtures and then one can easily plug this whole base unit & light fixture into the base unit ("SkyOutlet") and with 360 degree adjust-ability and with a simple click - you have just hung your ceiling light fixture to the exact position you want. In a way it is like just plugging in the light fixture. The fixture can easily be changed in the future without having to deal with the hard-wiring in the ceiling box or attic. This model comes in a brushed nickel finish to hopefully match your own nickle finish fixture. If not instructions say you can paint the base escutcheon to try and match. There are some weight conditions that would need to be met or looked at depending on the light fixture style that you want to use.

I requested this quick connect/disconnect ceiling light fixture upgrade kit more as just another two items to review to keep me busy and give me options for remodeling our home. When it finally arrived, I was actually amazed at how well the upgrade kit was designed. It is so simple and straight forward to use that I even had my 2 year old activate the disconnect on the device. One thing that wasn't obvious is that you can also spin your light fixture 360 degrees before fully locking it in place. I have no problem recommending this and once we get some more debt paid off this next tax season, I plan to get a few more of these.

I love the idea of this plug and play light fixture but the reality is that it’s not as simple as it is made out to be. First off, it is not easy to install, at all. I’ve installed dozens of light fixtures over the years and this product is much more complicated. I just about gave up but decided to read some of its reviews and there I found some helpful hints about how to go about installing it. I would recommend to anyone who has it will purchase it to read the reviews. Once installed it looks fine but swapping out fixtures is not as simple as pushing a button! If you decide to swap out the fixture, yes, you can push the lever to disengage the fixture but then you’ve got to completely un-wire the current fixture and then completely wire in the new one to the base attachment. I’m not likely to do that on a whim. Also, the very, very tiny screws that hold the wiring in place will likely not last for many fixture exchanges. Nice idea, and I hope that there will be further development but again, it’s not as simple as it’s made out to be.

This review is for the Skyplug 5in. Brushed nickel Skybase Canopy kit for cord or rod. This is such a nice product, it makes any hanging lamp look so much more stylish and finished off. I will be using this for a haniging lamp next to my bed. This Canopy light kit would work great with any style of light fixture. It came with clear directions and in a timely manner. Well packaged too.

A very neat product with great applications. That being said, there are some problems. First the good, the build quality is excellent. The fit and finish are perfect and I don't have any doubt of its quality of materials. I love the idea of being able to swap hanging lights when needed, very cool and novel idea. I could see these being very useful for commercial applications and even trade show events where the lighting needs to be changed often. My main issue for residential applications is the ease of installation which takes some consideration, and the fact that it can't be used with a dimmer. Aside from that, the connection assembly is precise and sturdy. I want to work with these a little more and get used to the installation. I would still recommend this product for anyone who needs a product that allows them to swap out fixtures.

I give this product 5 Stars with some reservations. 1) Please note: SkyPlug recommends 12AWG solid wire for mounting the base to the junction box. Most code allows 14AWG stranded wire to be used in residential runs using 15 amps. Possibly, not all your boxes will have 12 gauge solid wire. The base wires will get a lot of movement as you install and tuck the wiring into the box. Make sure your set screws are tight. Most fixtures use 14 gauge stranded wire and the ceramic plug readily accepts this as it has a "cord clamp" to hold the wire securely. (see photos) 2) Make sure you push the "lever" up as you push the plug into the base making sure you hear the click. The "plug" has a 2 stage locking system to prevent accidental release of the fixture as some have reported. 3) I would not recommend inexperienced DIY's installing the "plug" portion as it requires very accurate measuring and wire stripping. I love the concept and technology especially for commercial applications. I will be removing my light fixture often as I remodel my kitchen, however I feel the average consumer does not "change or remove" fixtures often enough to realize the benefits. Most heavy ceiling fans and light fixture have hooks or hangers to support the fixture as you complete wiring. Also, as of this writing, the SkyPlug and base come as a kit. Even though reasonably priced, you will need a kit for each fixture you want use. Installation of the "base" to the junction box took about 10 minutes, however it took about 45 minutes to wire the "plug". 5 Stars for Quality, Concept, Technology, Appearance and Design. 4 Stars for Ease of Installation.

The Sky Plug 5 in. Brushed Nickel Skybase Canopy Upgrade Kit for Cord or Rod Pendant Lighting is a wonderful product. Who ever knew taking down or putting up a new ceiling light could be so effortless. It has straight forward wiring most any homeowner can do. You will now have your fixture ready to easily take down to clean, change out to another fixture or simply remove it to paint the ceiling and replace it when the paint is dry. This kit is available in brushed nickel or chrome, matching most ceiling devices. We ordered a chrome and a brushed nickel kit. They come complete with all you will need for installation, includes a neat cover plate to cover the electric box in the ceiling with SkyPlug, SkyOutlet, and hardware. Being sure to have a good grasp on your lamp the device is lever activated and releases easily. See Photos

These sky jack connectors are great and make it much easier to install and remove your lighting fixtures that have a corded hanging light fixture once you install the mounting plate to the electrical box . I have seen these sky jack connectors before in two ceiling fans I have that have these type connectors and at first I thought they looked difficult to use but found they work great and easy to use .

I received the SkyPlug 5 in. Brushed Nickel SkyBase Canopy Upgrade Kit for Cord or Rod Pendant Lighting to review for free. This is a unique concept and for the most part it's well executed. Before installing I was a bit skeptical whether this thing would hold the weight of a chandelier, and am glad that it does as advertised. The parts are nicely packaged and the instructions are good. However the actual installation can be tricky. One thing I found which wasn't explained well is that the unlock lever has to be pressed up twice to completely separate the plug from the socket. The pin that holds the two together has a two stage release using ball-bearings. You push-up the lever once and it unlocks one part to release the fixture, then you push the lever up again and pull the fixture down at the same time to separate the two parts. I have used the SkyPlug 5 to hang two chandeliers so far and am happy with the conveinience of being able to just plug-in the fixture. The only minor complaint I have is that the base cover does not stay flush with the ceiling due to the washers that they recommend using when mounting the base to the ceiling. Make sure you take time to follow instructions to attach the base to the ceiling and the plug to your fixture. I'm glad I can do the wiring of the fixture on the floor and not on the ladder while carrying all that weight. Attaching the fixture to the base is as easy as plugging in as described. Just remember to push the lever up while plugging in and make sure there is an audible click to confirm it's plugged in. Overall, this is a good concept and I'm hoping will hold for a long long time.
