Attractive and sturdy mounting bracket that attached to the wall with a single screw, and two smaller ones to the rail. I ended up using wood screws that were a little smaller in diameter, as the ones that came with the bracket were more apt to split the wood.

Serves its purpose
Needed to install a handrail quickly for basement stairs. Got these for about $5 a pop. Heavy duty weight. Worked perfectly!

Make sure to pre-drill the holes....you get one chance with...
Make sure to pre-drill the holes....you get one chance with these screws before you run the risk of stripping them. Even with drilling, I stripped out 2 screws and had to replace them with other screws I had.

Hi EricInNH, thanks for sharing your experience with us. We're sorry that you had to go to extra lengths to get the bracket to work for you. Your comments about the screws have been forwarded to our product managers for their review. Also, your suggestion to pre-drill holes is a good one, no matter the type of screw. Pre-drilling holes not only reduces the chance to strip out a screw, it also makes the hole more accurate, so the screw doesn't "walk" over the material.

easy to adjust
With only one hole in the center , it makes it easy to adjust the angle of the bracket just in case your off a hair. Just make sure you get that hole into a stud.

Upright bracing is not strong enough. With a small amount of force it moves back and forth from the wall even with the support screwed into a wall stud.

Please remove the brackets you purchased and do not use them. You can take them back to the store from which you purchased them and exchange them for new brackets. Thank you.
