My 2 hens love this coop and so far it is working out great. I am going to get an extension so they can roam a bit more, but it works great as is. It is easy to clean and seems very sturdy.
A bit expensive for what you get but we bought chicks intending to build but ran out of time so we bought this which has worked for the past year. Overall it looks nice and is easy to assemble but be careful not too over tighten as the pieces will crack if you don't watch out. I suggest this only if you can't build your own. I expect it to last a couple years at most but have already had to make some modifications as noted below.
The coop does not really fit for birds unless you have some of the smaller breeds. We have 4 that find space to sleep at night (two on the roosting bars and two in nesting boxes) . There needs to be more space between roosting bars.
My other complaint is the external nesting box leaks at the hinges. In less than a year that lid was showing signs of mildew and water damage. It is a cheaply constructed lid that is not solid wood. I'm replacing it with some scrap plywood and clearanced roofing shingles.
We also took it off the run base, built our own base from 2x4 and attached it to our 5' x 10'. I also purchased a couple of laminate flooring squares and cot to fit the bottom of the nesting boxes. This allows it to be easier to clean out and also prevents bedding material from falling through the wood slat floor.
This product was not too hard to assemble. It met the needs that we have for our new chicks. We didn't expect so many of them to survive so we have now put another surrounding cage / fence around the original and they have meant much more room to run but it was very effective when they were small. It's really not big enough for more than a couple of full size hens. so are enclosure makes it more suitable.
We LOVE this coop! We do not have chickens quite yet, so this review might be a little premature. However, it is cute as a button, sturdy, and has withstood a hail storm without problem!
It took a little longer to build than the suggested time but once in place it looked very nice. I have four small chickens and they are enjoying their new home.
Perfect setup with everything you need and more. Materials are less than top quality so keep that in mind and be careful not to over tighten any screws. If you are free ranging its perfect but if not, you will need to add some sort of pen for walking around room. I have only had this for a couple of weeks.
This was easy to install. My 2 hens were used to a huge coop but have transitioned to this one fine. The ladder fell off the first day though and i haven't reattached it since my girls just fly up to the nesting box. I let my hens out all day and they just go up in this coop at night and to lay their eggs during the day. Bought the expansion pen which attached easily and added a bit more space for the weekends i'm not able to let them free range. It's a good value for the money. My 5 year old loves to open the window and peak in at them. And gathering eggs is easy with the latch roof system.
