Impossible to use
The bars on the traps I bought all had to be adjusted with hammer and pliers. They were either too short or too long to reach the plate holding the peanut butter. Most people would not persevere in making this adjustment. They were faulty and impossible to use as is.

Good affordable trap
I bought 8 of these traps and have caught 10 mice so far. They work and work well for the most part and are very affordable! I've read reviews of people complaining about how hard they are to set, just USE YOUR BRAIN! They are not difficult to set and if they keep accidentally going off it's because you're using too much bait, about a pea sized amount of peanut butter or less is all you need. It's far from rocket science to use these traps their very simple. My only slight complaint or suggestion for future models is to beef up the spring slightly. Out of the 10 mice I've caught 2 have been still alive, 1 of them was caught perfectly behind the head too. 1 out of every 5 mice still being alive in the trap is not a great ratio. And nobody enjoys having to kill a mouse that's still alive, it's not fun and can make a mess. I'd also recomend using poison in combination with these traps in places where it doesnt matter if you cant find the body of the mouse such as a barn or shed, im using these traps in combination with poison in my barn to great effect. Other than that great trap!

I'm rather taken aback by the number of 1-star reviews; I suppose some folks might encounter the occasional hiccup when it comes to setting traps. It can be quite the puzzling ordeal for some—like a real brain teaser. But for the cunning mouse-trap-setter, the Tomcat wooden mouse traps are nothing short of a revelation.
Let's just say, these traps have a responsiveness that would make a high-end luxury car blush. They are the Olympians of the mouse-trap world, living by the motto "Citius, Altius, Fortius" (Faster, Higher, Stronger). And when they snap? It’s game over, a showdown where only the trap comes out on top. Those one-star reviewers must simply be baffled by the sheer efficiency of it all.
In seriousness though, while I can't account for other experiences, I found these traps to be undeniably effective at addressing my rodent rendezvous. They are easy to bait, set, and they do their job with a startling efficiency. The satisfaction of checking the traps and finding them sprung - without fail - is truly something else.
To those naysayers, I've only got sympathies to offer – handling such a straightforward contraption should not be such an intricate dance. Perhaps it's the mouse's last spell of trickery, a charm that only affects trap effectiveness when in certain hands. Regardless, if you follow the simple instructions, expect results.
To sum it up, these bad larry's performance has been impeccable in my household, and they deserve a rating that eclipses even 5 stars. Tomcat traps, thank you for bringing such a trusted, time-honored design into our modern era, where it continues to reign supreme over mice invasions.

Not impressed
your trap has an engineering defect. the bait holder is too wide and too long. I watched a mouse trip the trap whiteout being in the kill zone. Two nights I watched this happen. Smart mouse.

Worthless
Don't waste your money. Not worth a single star, but 0 isnt an option and no one reads 1 star reviews. I bought a pack of two. I know where the mouse comes out of the wall, I've seen it. First time the mouse dragged the trap under the stove where it went off. Taped trap to the floor. 3 activations, all failed. The forth time the trap broke. Mouse 5, tomcat traps 0

Best trap I've used
Best mouse traps I've used. Easy to set and the get the mouse every time. I've been using the same trap for years and still works great. I've probably caught 50 mice with it.

Unneeded “innovation” and “improvement”
The distances between the trigger, pin, and anchor points are too far away to get the trap to set. Bending the anchor points, etc., doesn’t fix it because the pin isn’t even long enough. Plus, it’s not my job. These should work out of the pack. Frustratingly worthless. Doesn’t work.

The trigger (plastic cheese) needs to be angled at an approximate 45-degree angle in order for the trap to be set. The trap must be horizontal (flat) to be set; it cannot be set vertically. If used before without issue, potentially the spring or trap catch (that holds it in the set position) are weakened and no longer work. If the trigger or part of the trigger is damaged, you may have to pull up on the trigger for it to catch.

Catches mice. Doesn't kill them
It doesn't kill mice. It had one by the leg and the mouse was biting itself free when I found and released it outside. Another had one by the midsection and it was still moving. The springs are too weak to even damage a paper straw when I tested the traps afterwards.

Didn’t hold cheap wood worked great until it didnt
Worked great until the metal parts securing it to the would became loose and wood not tighten and eventually show them under the sink where they can not be removed from.

Biggest junk I have ever bought.
I can't even get it set because the pin won't stay under the yellow, it just slides out. You guys know it's junk. Just look at the feedback. You have more 1 star's than anything else and you got the 1 star only because we had to. . How can you keep selling this crap and ripping people off.

Tomcat “traps” = mouse feeding stations
I’ve used Victor brand wooden traps before with a very high degree of success. The store only had Tomcat wooden traps which I figured would be pretty much the same - so wrong! The mouse that I’m trying to trap ate the peanut butter off two Tomcat trap pedals without triggering them. I find this strange because they were a bit touchy to set and triggered two just setting them down the first time. I should’ve known better, as the Tomcat Press and Set traps my friend got had very unpredictable triggers and the Kill and Contain traps did nothing but sit there. I want my money back. I’m going with a company that sells products that work, henceforth.

The trigger that the bait is placed on needs to be angled up a bit in order for the trap to be set. The trap itself must be horizontal (or flat) to be set. Is the trap has been previously used without issue, the trap catch (that holds it in the set position) could be weakened and no longer work.

Mostly just free mouse food
I bought these traps at my local grocery store and I must say they do a great job at feeding mice, killing them…not so much. Most mornings after I leave the traps out i come down to see all the bait is gone but the trap is still locked and loaded. It’s amazing the amount of pressure it takes to set these off, even at the loose setting. If you’re interested in providing the mice in your house with free food, this trap is for you. I wish i were kidding.

Doesn't work
These traps don't work. Neither do any of the Tom Cat products. Ten minutes ago, I watched a mouse stand on the yellow part of the trap and eat the bait and leave same thing happens every night. Don't waste your money find another brand.

Excellent
Once you learn how to set the trap, it's the best. Works every time, which isn't true for some of the other types of mousetraps. It took me a while to see the easiest way to set the trap -- you have to tilt the orange bait holder up high enough so the thin metal "bar" will fit under it and stay there. If you do this, you won't have the problem of the trap snapping back down. We have a mouse come in a few times a year, and this product takes care of it immediately. I like the fact that the mouse dies instantly and painlessly -- I wouldn't want it to suffer and I wouldn't buy a product where that would happen.

wooden mouse traps
Fed up with spending money on a product that doesn't work. All four of the traps would not hold in the set position (And that's a painful revelation)! Obviously the subtle balance of the set position has been lost through mass production and no one is product testing!

Tried and true
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Basic and effective. Easy set up and very effective but watch your fingers. Although not for the faint of heart these are what I prefer over all others. A little peanut butter and your ready to go for any mouse.

Best trap on the market, quick death for mouse
I LOVE this trap! It is re-usable and extremely effective. I bait the trap and typically get the mouse within 1 or 2 days. THESE ARE THE BEST MANUAL TRAPS on the market. I have used other wooden mouse traps and they are terrible. Tomcat uses sturdy wood for their base and the metal is securely installed into the wood. I have had super success with these traps. The traps are reusable also. I remove the mouse from the trap, place it in our nearby woods and it is gratefully consumed by other carnivores especially in the winter.
I hope Tomcat continues making this trap because it is absolutely the best trap on the market.
