These are good concrete screws but if you’ve never drilled into concrete don’t get frustrated when you break them. 3” into a slab will put a lot of stress on this fastener and the concrete has no give unlike steel or wood. Drilling into CMU block you won’t have much trouble but poured concrete is much tougher. Also results may depend on your location as concrete may be harder or softer due to local geography and aggregate mixes. Be prepared to break 1/4 of them in hard concrete

Has many applications where masonry anchors are cumbersome. Tapcons provide lots of holding power expediently with little effort and less clean-up. They offer several diameters and lengths, so one can select the required shear and tensile capacity. (Though I've used overkill on occasion because I had another size on hand...they're economical.) Correct drill size is important - Do use the recommended drills; and replace as needed. Running them undersize may cause the screws to break... In preference to drop-in (sleeve) or undercut (wedge) anchors, I use these for light loads such as routing utilities (See photos 1 and 2,) and shelving (See photo 3.), and medium duty loads such as light ductwork / piping. (See photos 4 and 5.) No anchor installation is completely reversible, but relocating or removing a Tapcon-affixed bracket leaves only minor defects in the masonry - readily patched or sealed if necessary. Tapcons also are treated to resist corrosion. A higher grade 'Ultrashield' is offered as well as stainless steel. Also advantageous is the Tapcon Installation Kit which quickly adapts the drill and driver bit being used to a single tool.

I used these to install a door handle on a solid concrete foundation. The anchors worked great. I would agree and skip using the drill bit that comes in the package. I used my rotary hammer drill and bit to bore the holes and an impact drill to install the screws. Even though these are Phillips head, they didn't strip. I use this handle to pull myself up and out of the drivers seat of a very low slung car. after two seasons, the screws are rock solid, the handle has never moved.
