Good Mosquito Repellent
The Thermacell Mosquito Repellent sold by the Home Depot works well on a non-windy day. The area it covers, 15 foot zone is perfect for my gazebo area. The unit comes with well written instructions and is all inclusive. The kit comes with a few refills and really does work. They also include a contact number and email with the kit, if you have any questions or concerns about the product.

Easy to use and works well
This is a pretty cool Mosquito Repellent System. It uses a butane fuel cartridge to heat small repellent mats on the top of the unit. The active chemicals are "Allethrin" and petroleum distillates. Care and hand washing should follow handling of the mats or cartridges. The "Protection Zone" is 15 feet without a strong breeze or ceiling fan circulation. The repellent mats should last approximately 4 hours and the butane cartridges approximately 12 hours. Both come up short sometimes. On a humid Florida night, it did work well keeping both flies and mosquitos away from my guests who claim to be mosquito magnets. 5 Stars

Thermacell Patio Shield 15’ Zone Repeller
Love the Patio Shield Repeller by Thermacell. I use my Thermacell Patio Shields in my backyard under my patio cover and around my pool. One Repeller, three repellent mats and one fuel cartridge are included in the box. The fuel cartridge threads inside the housing and the repellent mat slides onto the top of the Patio Shield Repeller. A simple twist on the bottom of the Repeller to the on position, wait five seconds and then twisting again to the start position while ignite the Patio Shield and start working in about 10 minutes. There will be an orange glow through the clear eye at the top of the Repeller housing, letting you know it’s ignited. The fuel cartridge lasts about 12 hours and the repellent mats last about four hours. I am in North Texas and mosquitoes are abundant around this time of year and throughout the summer. I own three Thermacell Patio Shields to help minimize the mosquitoes. I found these do help reduce mosquitoes significantly around my backyard, where we generally sit and lounge. With the three Patio Shields I have, it covers about a 30 to 40 foot area. I like that the mats do not emit an odor and the Patio Shields also do not emit any smoke. The mats and cartridges are easy to replace in each Patio Shield. I’ve had great success with these over the years and will continue to use these Patio Shields and refills. My family and I are happy with our Patio Shields, which we use anytime we are outside in the early evening and throughout the night. The protection it provides makes it enjoyable to be outside during the spring and summer months. Thermacell has a 100% guarantee for repair, replacement and or refund. Overall, I’m happy with my Thermacell products I own!

it works!
Thermacell 15-foot Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller works, but there was a learning curve for me to get it out of the package and set it up. Hint: read the directions! I have a small patio that I enjoy sitting on and I use a lot of planters for flowers and vegetables that I also enjoy working with, but the mosquitos are horrible here. I tested the Thermacell tonight and sat it on the little table on the patio and I had no mosquito bites. Winner! Be sure to wash your hands after touching the blue mat even if you are just working in your garden. I would not touch any plants if you are trying to keep an organic garden.

Wonderfully Amazing
I received this Thermacell 15 ft. Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller in Midnight Coverage and Deet Free, Black a few days sgo and I am in love with it. First of all the look is of such beauty that looks like it belongs on a table. The smell that it emits has a very pleasant aroma. And it does totally work. I have never seen a product like this for mosquitoes it has a fuel source and a little square paper tab you sit in it and it gives off an orange glow when on so it looks pretty at night. I will definitely be getting refills for this. It is very easy to set up and use.

Keeps those Mosquitos at bay
There's nothing more disappointing than to have mosquito's swarming as you're relaxing outside. I was excited to try Thermacell Mosquito repellent since it claims to repel mosquitoes. I'm a magnet for pest and have been bitten many times. I especially like that it's scent free and not a stinky spray. The zone of coverage is 15 ft. which is big enough coverage for a small gathering. Included instructions were easy to understand and unit was quick to assemble. It took a couple times to get it to light, but once it did it worked great. It works to repel mosquitoes as stated. Don't forget to read the hazards, follow directions and keep out of reach of children. I like the repellent, but would only use it for adult gatherings. The only down side is having to buy refill cartridges and mats, but it's worth the expense to be able to enjoy being outside in the evenings.

This Thermacell Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller is a new one for me to try. As it comes, you have about 12 hours of repellent and fuel for the unit. I have tried it on my patio (12 ft. across) and it seems effective. I have only tried it on calm evenings. It would probably depend on the breeze as to whether it would be effective with moving air. My patio has a cover on the top and two sides so the air current is partially blocked which may help retain the repellent coverage. There is a new rechargeable Thermacell unit that has a larger (20 ft.) coverage area. I may try one of those, as well. So far the mosquitos are staying away with this one.

Arrived too early in the season to test it, but I am confident that this device will help to repel mosquitoes. Creates a 15’ area of protection, using technology that harnesses natural repellants found in plants. There’s no candles or stinky coils. It’s DEET free and scent free. Comes with 3 repellant mats, each mat lasts about 4 hours. Full set of instructions is included. This device is stylish. It is powered by a 12-hour, compact fuel cartridge. Of course, replacement mats and fuel cartridges are available for purchase. I can’t wait to try it out. I want to stop mosquitoes in their tracks!

So if you are having problem with mosquitoes the way I am and do not like the citronella candles all burning around you this is a great alternative. I originally thought the supplies were only going to last for hours. I was wrong. The Matt's last 4 hours and they provide three of them to you. The fuel cartridge last 12 hours so you do in one box get a full 12-hour use. In my experience it is just over 12 hours of use. I have since purchased additional supplies to keep this around. As you can suspect it works great. We have a table near my pool that seats eight and we have Sunday dinner all summer there. We've already been out there this spring and we have flies and mosquitoes that simply annoy the heck out of us. I purposely waited for those flies and mosquitoes to become annoying for about a half hour. I then turned this on. About 15 minutes later we all realize there were no flies and mosquitoes continuing to bother us. Although I do need to purchase supplies for this I believe that using it for hours each weekend for 3 weekends as well worth it. Try it and you'll like it. I certainly do.

The Thermacell Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller is a compact, yet effective device that drives mosquitoes from the immediate area surrounding a picnic table, campsite or backyard gathering area. The Patio Shield comes in five outdoor colors so, it can blend in well within most recreational spaces. The rock patio in my backyard is roughly 14 ft. by 20 ft. with shrubs and small trees around. So, it makes an excellent testing arena for a mosquito repeller. The repeller comes with easy-to-follow instructions, Assembly is straight-forward and requires no tools. Insert the fuel cartridge provided by spinning with fingers until it stops. The repellent mat comes out of the silver foil packaging and slides easily into the top of the repeller. The orange glow shows quickly and plainly through the site portal. The repeller operates silently to quickly clear the immediate area of pesky mosquitos. I discovered that the most efficient placement for the mosquito repeller is close to the center of activity and low to the ground with a windbreak nearby. The device turns off as easily as it turns on and cools down quickly. The Patio Shield does not repel Texas June Bugs.

Awesome alternative to citronella candle! I have used this thing many times so far this summer and have been very pleased with the results. This uses a canister with what seems to be lighter fluid or some other type of propellant to heat up a blue pad that is infused with a repellant for mosquitos. It works very effectively and while we were sitting out last night there was a decent pile of mosquitos on the table after an hour, so It definitely does its job. It also doesn't emit any bad smells so its a lot nicer in close proximity compared to a citronella candle. It is super easy to ignite and start using it and the blue pads that come with it (x3) turn white when they are used up, so I don't think they could have made this any easier to use. As far as how long it lasts, I have used the repeller for at-least three hours and the first pad is still blue and the propellent still looks full. So I'm getting all the use I wanted out of it!

I've only used this product twice so far, and I don't know if its a placebo, but maybe there are less mosquitoes around? Usually they attack me like crazy whenever I go to the backyard, but I haven't gotten bit yet! To be fair, its still cool and not yet hot, so maybe they are just not as active. Either way, I like how portable this mosquito repeller is. I brought it to my friends bbq last time and it was a nice item to place on the table instead of all the citronella candles we always use. It does get a bit hot though because it uses butane. It looks like the cartridge is refillable but I have not tried. The box comes with 3 mats and 1 cartridge (12 hours burn time). The mats are supposed to be replaced when it turns from blue to white. I did a quite search online and they sell it in bulk for about a dollar each depending on where you look. Also claims to last 12 hours. So overall, I do think its a good deal. Instructions are pretty easy to follow; the "orange glow light" isnt the most obvious, but you get used to it. Hey, anything to prevent the bugs from attacking me. I do enjoy the outdoor air so I am excited so sit outside more in the summer. Also, it doesnt look bad!

Very interesting product. You simply install the fuel cartridge and the “repellent mat”, then twist the bottom to light it. No matches or lighter required. To me, there is a certain amount of mystery to how this works. There is no visible flame but there is a slight orange glow inside the unit, visible through the “view hole” which is a small round window. What’s going on in there I don’t know, but clearly it creates a small amount of heat, causing the repellent to evaporate from the mat. The device gives off a barely visible vapor. There is no odor. It’s easy and clean to use. We’re not yet at peak mosquito season in New York but there are a few and they don’t seem to be bothering us while we’re using this.

The THERMACELL PATIO SHIELD MOSQUITO REPELLER IN RIVERBED is an updated version of another product I used to have. That product was lantern shaped and was powered by a candle, but with a similar blue patch that created the smoke repellent. The new Thermacell version is powered by a cartridge which I assume is butane. This is a sleek device that does not draw your attention. It is very easy to set up and use. Screw in the cartridge, slide the blue patch in the top. Twist the bottom part. Done. The blue patch is heated by the butane and releases a small amount of smoke and the repellent. I did not find the output to be noticeable. This device does seem to work well. I sat outside at dusk, when I would normally be mosquito food. I was able to enjoy a pleasant evening outside and returned with no bites. My only concern is the cost of the replacement cartridges and blue patches. But I am worth it.

I hate mosquitos. I’ve tried tiki torches, bug spray, coils, candles – all with varying degrees of success. This device is a new line of defense, named Thermacell Patio Shield. As the name implies, it uses butane fuel to produce a slight heat source which warms the top of the unit. Inserting a treated mat into the top grid, the warmed mat emits a vapor barrier that can spread in all direction up to fifteen feet. It is an attractive and compact unit that emits an almost unnoticeable smell/vapor to create the barrier. To use, turn and click the bottom base to ignite the butane, and then after about 10 minutes – you have good protection. So far it has worked well, but I haven’t tried it in a muggy summer night yet. The unit comes with a butane cylinder and three mats. The cylinder lasts up to 12 hours of use, and each mat up to 4 hours. Replacements are available at modest cost. This is an outdoor unit, although storage is best indoors away from the elements. Mat must be dry to be effective. Each mat transitions from a blue color to clear while in use – indicating it has reached the end of its useful life. To operate, first screw in the butane cylinder into the base, insert a mat in the top, and turn the lower ring to the on and start position. If the unit lights you can see a faint orange glow indicating it is working. The top does get warm – but not too hot, and you can get a slight wisp of white smoke, much less than coils or candles produce. The unit doesn’t require any batteries or cords. The unit is best effective if placed upwind of where you want protection, and stronger winds greatly diminish its effectiveness. This is an attractive unit, available in a variety of colors. It’s simple to use, wipes clean, and helps keep those nasty mosquitos away!

The Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller in Riverbed by Thermacell will be a welcome relief in our back yard by the campfire and by the pool. My wife loves the outdoors but she is forever fighting the dreaded mosquitoes. Unfortunately she gets bit more often than I do. This mosquito repeller is made by a very reputable company, Thermacell, a trusted name in the industry. We have used this brand in other countries and it has worked very well to control the dreaded bug bites, thanks so much.

This comes shipped in a cardboard box measuring 9.25” X 6” X 9.25”. The box of the actual item is 4” (front to back and side to side) and 9” tall. The unit itself is 6.5” tall and 3.5” in diameter. It weighs 7.7 oz. It comes with a 1 year warranty (repair or replace) but if you register the product, they’ll make it a 2 year warranty. It is made in Thailand. The instructions are clear and easily followed and I like that they have a “Quick Start Guide” in addition to more detailed instructions. They include a phone number for questions. If you have a really good sense of smell, you might notice a barely-there citrus scent. Out of 4 of us at the table, only 1 of us could detect any scent. It makes NO noise at all but it does get hot to the touch when it’s in use. After you use it, you need to let it cool down (5-10 min in our cool weather) before you move it or store it. It’s really easy to put together: just drop the butane cylinder in and give the bottom a couple of clockwise turns and it’s in. A nice feature is that you can store the extra mats (it comes with 3 mats) inside the unit. When it’s on, the light (see photo) is just barely visible – it’s not bright enough to be annoying. You can see the coils under the repellent glowing. We noticed that it did work on mosquitoes and may well work on other bugs as well as when we had it going, there didn’t seem to be any bugs at all in the area. I am so allergic to mosquito bites that I hate to even go outside when they are out. We used the Thermacell Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller a couple of weekends ago when we had family that wanted to be on the deck. Because it is so early in the season and it was quite chilly for April it is hard to know if it really worked or if the bugs just were not there. At lease I did not get bitten. It creates a 15 ft Mosquito free zone without using harmful chemicals or smelly smoky candles with open flames. I got the color chili – very muted and will blend in with anything. It comes with only 1 cartridge which lasts 12 hours and 3 mats that last 4 hours each. The replacement cartridge and 3 mats cost almost as much as the unit. Fighting those mosquitos might just get expensive. The unit is decorative, light weight and just blends in with whatever is around. It would be easy to take anywhere you are going to be out in nature sharing space with the little blood suckers. The 2 downsides for me are (1) that the cartridge only lasts 12 hours and (2) you must change the mats 3 times in that 12 hours. Maybe that is a small price to pay for a 15 ft. mosquito free zone. I am hoping that it works when the bugs get really bad.

This seems to be an excellent find. Because of my allergies, I cannot take the smell of citronella candles and other smelly mosquito repellence fragrances. This says it does not smell so I am hoping I can use it on my front porch. The canister is pretty and made of plastic. The fuel cartridge slips into the bottom and you place a repellent mat in the top .... the fuel cartridge should last 12 hours. It does, however, have an on/off switch.

The Thermacell Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller is great. It came well packaged. We got it in the Glacial Blue color and it is very attractive looking on our back deck. No one would even know what it was. I get eaten alive with mosquitoes but my boyfriend never does. I am not a fan of the smell of Citronella so this is wonderful. No Citronella smell, no open flame, and easy to use. You can buy refills of the repellent mats and the fuel cartridge.

The Thermacell patio shield mosquito repellent machine is a neat system for repelling mosquitos. While I like the setup I do not like how short a time the fuel cell lasts. I’m not sure of the cost for replacement fuel cell or the mosquito strips. The fact that it is small and easy to carry with you makes it a viable option for the back yard and camping.

The product arrived quickly, well packaged. and was extremely easy to set up. This is the first mosquito repellent that I have used that actually repels those annoying beasts. I am so glad I discovered this product. I will definitely purchase another so that I could have better coverage in my backyard patio. Looking forward to enjoying the outdoor space this summer.

Look, really all that matters is; does it keep the little (and big) bloodsuckers away. Our back and one side yard are bordered by farmland so we get our share of bugs (but have unbridled privacy). This gives off no noticeable smells. Combine those 2 features and you have a winner. This is the time when these bugs are coming out in numbers. We found it’s effective against mosquitoes, gnats, and flies. Fuel cartridges and repellent pads are easy to replace and last a decent amount of time, pads 4 hrs. and butane 12 hrs. If I don’t fully use a pad up, I can put in a small Ziplock bag (not included). The cost of replacements cost less than $5 for 12 hrs of comfort, well worth it because THEY WORK! If I have anything to be critical of, is its weight, it would be blown over easily BUT if it’s that windy (a) the bugs aren’t usually an issue and (b) it probably wouldn’t be worth lighting as the wind would make it ineffective.

The Mosquito repelled is ready to protect you for up to 12 hours, this highly effective repelled comes with 3 repellent mats and 1 fuel cartridge, all of which fit together in this attractive cordless device. In full disclosure the weather here has been too cold for mosquitos to emerge. The unit is easy to assembly and start running as you can hear the sound of the fuel being used after turning the device on. Per the instructions it appears that if takes 15 minutes to saturate the air to repeal the mosquitos. I will have to wait until better weather to try out the unit.

Nothing can ruin a nice spring evening sitting outside on the patio than getting swarmed by a bunch of bloodthirsty mosquitoes. So I was excited to try out this Thermacell Patio Shield Mosquito Repelled in Chili Red. It's small size and light weight make it quite versatile - we even take it camping. The fuel cells and repellent pads are easy to install, and they last 12 hours and 4 hours respectively. In operation, the repellant works very well. Our first experience with it had us fire it up as we first sat outside. During the first few minutes we were slapping at multiple mosquitoes, but quickly we noticed their numbers tapering off. Within 15 minutes we were bug-free - proof positive the Thermacell was effective. Replacement butane fuel cells and repellent pads are available online and are reasonably priced if bought in bulk. I'm pleased with this product and highly recommend it!

Seems to work pretty good, but we are really early into big season! I like the concept, it has a tiny fuel cartridge and you click it a few times to light a tiny burner under the scent pad... no batteries needed. There is zero scent or sound, you don’t even realize it’s there working. The whole thing is about the size of a travel mug, and blends in so you can have a few at an event probably unnoticed.

I was looking for an alternative to citronella spray which I’m not a fan of the strong scent or harsh sprays, I love this Patio Shield by Thermacell, it’s so chic, you wouldn’t even know it was mosquito repellent, I put it on my patio table and no bugs bothered us the entire time we were grilling and eating, it provided about a 15 foot radius of protection, I’ve received a lot of compliments and someone even thought it was a speaker, there’s no scent at all. The kit comes with everything you need, the fuel cartridge, and repeller mats. I’m using it on my patio, but it could even be placed poolside.
