Smartstow is really nice. Until you have it, you don’t realize how nice it it. Stored vertically saves so much space. I like the personal pace and big rear wheels; it makes maneuvering simple, easy. The PowerReverse is just ok, because, as you pull back the mover towards you, you tend to put weight on the back handle / wheel and loose the front wheel reverse traction. It is not a deal breaker, since I like the mower for everything else, but just something I won’t use.

Lawn mower cuts through a lot. Paint has started to chip off and self propelled reverse you have to lift up on back end but overall a very sturdy powerful mower.

I bought this lawn mower from Home Depot in June 2018. I have a hill along the back of my property so I thought having the reverse self-propel feature would be great. The first season it worked well. However, not so much the second season. Forward self-propel is made by the rear wheels while reverse self-propel is made by the front wheels. The problem was that when I pulled the lawn mower back engaging the reverse propel motion, the rear wheels would lock up and not move at all. This cause the forward wheels to spin in place (trying to move the mower in reverse) and digging up my lawn beneath the front wheels. 2019 was a particularly wet summer in the Midwest making the problem worse. I adjusted the cable tensions on the self-propel cables but this did not prevent the rear wheels from locking up. There is a 2-year warranty on this lawn mower so I took it in. But here's the REAL PROBLEM. Toro KNOWS about this and even MENTIONS IT IN THE INSTRUCTIONS. The fix is to allow the mower to move forward a couple of inches and then pull back. However this is not ideal if you have obstacles such as trees or a retaining wall or a shed that your mower is up against. And in most cases this FIX DOES NOT WORK; the REAR WHEELS REMAINED "LOCKED". So I was told THAT THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION And NOT DEFECTIVE. Meanwhile, my lawn gets torn up whenever I try to use this lawn mower. I am disappointed and extremely upset and will NEVER BUY another Toro product again!

Waited a week for the mower. My wife was excited to cut the yard with it for the first time, then I get a text 5 minutes later with a picture of the wheel sitting next to the lawnmower. How does that happen at such a high failure rate based on the reviews I'm seeing? No idea if it's stripped like other reviewers have encountered since I'm not at home. She's backing to using the 10 year old craftsman that still has all 4 wheels on.

Like: - Smartstow option is very convenient - PoweReverse is a great bonus - Starts very easily and runs smoothly - Very even cuts Dislike: - Rear axle bolt loosened and fell out after first 3 minutes of use. Threads appeared to be stripped/damaged. This is the absolute worst when you need to mow for the first time during spring and you can't because the wheel won't stay on. - Self propel doesn't work with any significant inclines

UNBELIEVABLE!!! At first use, it wasn't even 15 minutes onto cutting my lawn, that the rear wheel fell off the lawnmower! The so called PoweReverse was useless! VERY LITTLE POWER IN REVERSE. Once you're on the grass, you can forget about PoweReverse. You're pulling that lawnmower in reverse, with no power that the PoweReverse is supposed to produce, to relieve you of the manual exertion. This lawnmower did not live up to my expectations at all!! This lawnmower doesn't even deserve 1 star! Too bad they didn't give me the option of zero feedback! That would have truly been my feedback! I am sending pics of the lawnmower. This caused me a tremendous inconvenience! BEWARE: DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE!! I sincerely hope these 3 pictures I'm forwarding you, shows the wheel that fell off. If not, I have the same photos in my photo gallery to resend to you, if the pics aren't showing it correctly!

Before I bought this I read the reviews and the reviews stated that it was easy to use .. right out of the box ... just lift the handle ready to go. Unfortunately the directions is a picture book I don’t understand the pictures .. I can read. I even went online to try and find a video or something better for instructions and directions Best of luck to all I am sure its a great mower

This was ordered online and shipped to my home without issue or damage. This mower is 95% assembled and ready to use out of the box. The only assembly that I had to do was to finished attaching the clamps on grass catcher to the wire frame. Then I just needed to unfold the handle with the blue lock pins, add the bottle of oil and fill it up with gas and it was ready to mow. And this mower started on the first pull. This mowers forward motion is rear wheel powered and the reverse motion is front wheel powered. This is controlled by pushing or pulling the handle bar. The reason I gave this mower 4 stars is because after the bag starts to fill up at about the half way point, the front wheel reverse starts to loose it's traction due to the shift in weight to the rear of the mower and the balance of the mower is off, so the reverse becomes a little ineffective and the tires just spin. But on the plus side, my yard is on a hill and this handled climbing the hill fairly well in forward direction. This mower also has a mulching option and an option to throw the clippings out of the side of the deck. There is also an attachment on the deck to connect the garden hose to spray out the underside. And once your done mowing, you can fold the handle back up and store the mower in a vertical position out of the way and saves some space in the garage. All in all this is a great mower that will get lots of use this year.

If you want a strong mower that has enough power to speed through your mowing, this is a GREAT option. I mow the lawn every two weeks, however, this is NOT the mower for your first mow of the season. It chokes and dies like a teenager being told to wash the dishes for the 400th time. Otherwise, if you have a large area to mow and little time to do it, this is a fantastic mower!

The Smartstow Gas Walk Behind Mower has a Briggs And Stratton engine, which has served me well in the past. It was almost completely set up inside the box, which saved me a lot of time. Assembly took about five minutes. This mower can mulch, bag, or blow out the side. The deck is sturdy steel, and the entire mower seems to be very well made. I love the folding for storage feature and the fact that it came with a bottle of oil. The cutting height and handles are easy to adjust. Even though the lawn does not yet need mowing, I tested it on part of the lawn. It did a good job of mowing and was easy to handle. This mower has a three year engine warranty and a two year full warranty. I expect this mower to give me many years of good service.

My lawn mower died after 25 years so decided to get a Toro. I bought one last year for my daughter and it runs great. I chose this particular model primarily because of the folding feature. The lawn mower came in a box practically ready to go. I set it up in minutes. I like the fact that it even came with a container of oil. Once set up the cutting height was easy to adjust and I like the ability to adjust the handle height.it was easy to do and very stable. I liked the fact that the gas cap was attached to the gas tank with a plastic cord. No more searching for the missing cap. I folded up the mower for winter storage, it was easy to do and I was able to store it in my garage so it was out of the way of the cars. I have not been able to test it outdoors due to the snow but I will do a follow up review in the spring.

This lawnmower comes in a huge heavy box & i wan`t expecting that but the handles are already attached for you. Once we had it out of the box all i had to do was to press & slide a blue knob that allows the handle to unfold to an upright position then adjust some knobs on either side of the mower. The lawnmower comes with a little oil already in it so after id put some gasoline in it i pinched the bar to the main handle and pulled on the cord and it started right up! It was a little confusing for me at first cos im not used to an advanced lawnmower & by that i mean that it has 3 handlebars -the middle one being a wide plastic type that when you want the mower to propel forward you have to push down on it and away it goes. If you want it to go faster you lean on it more, slower is less pressure so for someone thats not a speedy walker this is a great plus. The mower is good for cutting on uneven terrain upto 1/2 an acre and i was able to maneuver this around up and down my steep sloping front acre without the need for me to have to "help it out" It has a "washout port" for me to attach my hose pipe to to clean the underside which is something new to me cos my old mower didn't have that feature, but will come in handy cos i cannot tilt my mower to squirt under it unless i get a guy to help me out. It is bigger than the older mower and is very powerful so i would definitely recommend it to anyone whose land is on the rugged side and wants to work less harder & have less fatigue cutting it. It comes with the bagger but i prefer to mulch. It was just as easy for me to fold the handle down and sit it on its end on my shed floor. I took a look at it a few days later cos i was sceptical about the gas maybe leaking out from it being stored that way but it was fine. Another point is that the engine sound quieter. Looking forward to getting more familiar with this innovative mowers technical details as time goes on.

This is the poorest mower I ever bought, cheap material, very poor cutting. I'm going to try to sell it and buy something else. Don't buy.

I bought this back in 2020 and for a while, it's been as advertised. Then last year, the problems started with the rear wheel locking up and the front wheels spinning endlessly, digging grooves in the lawn. I took it in for repair/adjustment and again, for a while it worked fine. Now it's back to its locking rear spinning front problem. I have even tried adjusting the cables which seems like a exercise in futility as it requires careful synching of 2 cables with the handlebar. All three need to be positioned perfectly in order to avoid locking/spinning wheels.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My wife and son who use this mower prefer my old front wheel drive 22" Toro model (which looks nearly the same, and it started with 2 pulls after sitting for 2 years!) instead of the 'Personal Pace' featured newer model. I just replaced the drive cable which broke on the old 10 year old model, as well as the front drive wheels (low tread) and a new blade. They will use the 10 year old mower instead of the newer 2 year old model because the newer model is harder to back up, turn and especially go up hills. A cable needed to be replaced on the newer 'Personal Pace' mower in just 2 years, so I fixed up the old one too. I like Toro, but it is getting harder to find just 'front wheel drive' mowers - it is easier to just push down on the handle to lift the front wheels to turn.

it goes at a great pace and extremely good as a recycling mower

I have used this mower for two months, in the dead of SW Florida summer, which means mowing a LOT!! I love it's cut....I love it's drive, except for one thing. What if the forward drive was on the front wheels, and the reverse was on the rear wheels? I have a gully in my front yard that would be made so easily mowed if the reverse was powered by the rear wheels. Toro, this product is great....make it awesome!!!

It has absolutely been worth every penny. Compared to other lawnmowers in it's class (don't know of any containing all of it's options in one) this Toro is very well priced & functions like a pro. I absolutely recommend it !!!

Really nice mower. The own pace feature is great. I like to mow fast. You could almost run behind it!

I was shopping for a mower and came upon this one and looked like it could do what i need...see i was hit by a drunk driver and cant use my right hand all the way up through to my neck very well. It has been very helpfull and easy to use. Set up was simple and no maintenance needed except topping off the oil. Thats great in my situation. Im happy with this machine and i also like the look of it. My grass is well kept and green thx. Seeing as i used to be a landscaper and did lawn maintenance wish i had one of these in my arsenal.

Great mower. I really like the power back up feature. The easy storefeature slso makes it extremely easy to clean themachine when the grass builds up underneath.

Love this mower, our yard has several hills that it easily propels itself up. The Personal Pace works really well regardless of who is using the lawnmower. The SmartStow is easy to use and makes it so you are not taking up a ton of space wherever you are storing it.

This Toro mower seems to work well so far. That sounds obvious, but I went through three other movers over a four week period, before settling on this one. Also, I ordered it Sunday at 11:45 p.m., and the mover was in my driveway by 10:30 the next day. Great service from HD.

The engine starts on the second pull every time. It does a good job of cutting and mulching. The lever that controls the rear bag discharge is handy if you want to vacuum up just part of the yard, like around bird feeders. The forward personal pace works surprisingly well, you don't even need to think about it. The power reverse is not so good; sometimes it works well and sometimes it doesn't. Even on the asphalt driveway where traction is not an issue, it doesn't work.

Overall decent mower. The reverse front wheel is useless. You will have to pick up the mower and put the weight on the front wheels for it to push the power back, or else it will just continue spinning. The mulching isn't the best. In a positive note, the self propelled rear wheels work like a charm, makes mowing super easy. The bagging is good. The handles can easily fold and the unit can be stored vertically. Overall I am super happy with the mower, but only downside is the front wheel reverse system is useless I think. Would have been better if I just got the regular self propelled rear wheel (with out reverse)or all wheel with reverse.
