First time using composite deck boards. Last time using...
First time using composite deck boards. Last time using one that isn't solid color. The contrasting color of the board below the thin color layer is clearly visible, especially on the grooved boards, where the color does not even go through the groove. The hidden fasteners were difficult to use when trying to align the not quite straight composite boards.

Awesome looking and easy
Rocky harbor trex is great. Had a company build the framing and I did the trex myself. Lays great and very easy to do with the hidden fasteners. Word of advice, square the edges before laying the boards. They don’t come square so to make your gaps look perfect square the ends.

Awesome deck planking!
Great deck planking. I do wish they had a touch more wood fibers and a bit less plastic texture on the surface. Otherwise a really great product.

Unstable
Built a 16x32 ft deck and after less than a year the boards have cupped, causing them to hold water. Boards are also warped and twisted at the ends making them look like snow skies. Trex offered to replace material but will not help with the cost of removal and replacement. Plain wood would have been cheaper and last longer.

Great product but beware of color change.
I ordered half of the project and left them stacked up for a couple of weeks or so under the sun, it darkened and so half of the project is lighter than the other, not sure if it the sun or manufaturer. I still have to wait for summer to see it it evens out with the newer batch. Product is great though, but if I were to do it again, I would order everything in one go to avoid color differences.

Since they are naturally streaked they will have different color tones and that is part of their design. When you install them, we recommend laying all the boards flat on the substructure so the light and dark boards are well mixed together for a natural look. Would like to throw this Trex in a dump
Decl os 2 days old. Extremely difficult to clean and white spots are showing up. NOW I am reading reviews about these kinds of problems. We wanted Trex for its "maintenance free" aspect. We will be spending A LOT more time in the first month trying to keep this deck clean and trying to fight these white spots than we ever would have in 10 years with a wood deck that was properly sealed and stained. Don't believe Trex. Don't believe Home Depot.

The toasted sand was a bit darker than I thought, but the Trex worked out very well and we are very happy with the results. Actually quite easy to install once you understand how it goes together.

Rocky Harbor Composite Decking by Trex is beautiful because it has several colors throughout the piece and it looks less “plastic”, in my opinion. However, I ran into the 16’ pieces with a Loy of black streaks and the 12’ pieces with hardly any black streaks. So, if you need to install both sizes, be sure to pick out all of the pieces and inspect before you install. I had to go to 3 different Home Depot’s to find the ones with less black in them.

I'm really disappointed in this decking. The ends of...
I'm really disappointed in this decking. The ends of the boards curl and I ended up having to waste a lot of material to eliminate the bad. Store stock is curling just sitting on the shelf. This stuff is not cheap and should be better quality.

I was disappointed that the 16 ft Rocky Harbor boards...
I was disappointed that the 16 ft Rocky Harbor boards were so much lighter in color than the 12 ft boards. When I visited my local Home Depot the boards looked the same. But since I ordered online, apparently my order was shipped from a different location and the boards were noticeably different.

Hi David, I'm sorry to hear that the product was not as expected for you. While we certainly understand your concerns, the variated boards will have both darker and lighter versions of the material - this is what gives it a natural feel to the product. As noted in the installation guide, we do recommend dry fitting the boards to allow for the variation in color. The material is made to look like natural wood and have some difference in the color tones. When lots are mixed in between one another this provides that variation.
