We used this for a back splash on our new counter top for our cabin. After installation we white washed it with a mixture of BEHR interior gloss paint deluted 1 part paint to 2 parts water, applied with a brush and immediately wiped off with a paper towel. After letting it dry for a day we applied 3 coats of high gloss polyurethane to protect it from water and making it easy to clean and wipe down. Picture shown is before white wash and polyurethane coats were added.

Recommended, however, one take off order, all the boards were bad. They didn't take stain, and had an odd chemical smell to them. We even power washed them. We returned those boards.

This product was the most usable product that we've purchased for our home! We plan on putting this on another wall in our kitchen, making a barn door, and possibly using it for a mudroom locker. Definateley recommend letting the product acclimate to the room fir 2 weeks before using to reduce warping. Also, leave these strapped during this time. Had less than 8% unusable product which Home Depot will give us our money back on.

These boards are a lower cost option to actual reclaimed lumber, but the quality difference is pretty apparent. Instead of having real saw marks and grain texture, these boards have been run through a texturing machine that just puts perfectly straight ridges and grooves along the whole board. It's not too obvious from a distance, but up close it's easy to tell. The surface of the boards are very splintery, with lots of little pieces hanging off, and some places where the shallow stain coat has flaked away to show the raw wood behind it. I also found a few spots that hadn't been sealed and were leaking sap. The ends of a few boards were in very rough shape, and it's definitely due to the manufacturing process, since the roughly splintered portions were still covered in a coat of stain. Ultimately I decided not to put these up on my wall due to their lack of quality. They may come in handy for a few projects that I want a rustic look for, but definitely nothing that will be a permanent fixture in my home.

Great look and a dead-simple way to increase a room’s R-value without doing sheetrock work without risking the introduction of mold or bugs from old wood. We furred our walls out an additional 1.5” and added RMax rigid insulation into the newly-created wall cavity, then covered our new “studs” and insulation with these distressed, gray shiplap 1x8 boards. The result looks fantastic and we added R9.2 or better to our east-facing walls, so this summer our bedroom won’t be 5-10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house first thing in the morning. I installed these using 18-gauge brad nails and they’re holding great. If one were to get really excited about things, the cut ends could be re-stained or painted grey to match, but with any wood, one would expect cut ends to look like new cuts. I decided not to go over the top with detail work. These are behind our bed, so not a trafficked area. I did have more waste than anticipated because our furring strips are roughly 24” apart vs traditional 16” spacing, so we had 20-percent waste. We are making 2’ square panels from the cut offs for cool wall pieces. We’ll run a sander over them quickly first to make them less splintery, then they can receive any cute saying and look great hanging up. My wife’s women’s group will love these panels for their next craft night, so we will actually have very little waste because of this secondary project. I’ve read a lot of these reviews, and I wanted to make a few comments; this is real wood, not manufactured wood, so they have cupping, twisting and crowning and the occasional split end or blown knot. These all add to the character, and it’s easy to straighten them on the wall. Where there was a crown or warp or cup, I just used more brads when I pulled the board into position. There are also plenty of splinters—a rough sanding with a DA sander would knock those off and add to the look. The back of the lap joint needed to be cleaned out quickly before installation; I used my speed square to avoid those splinters. Real barn wood has splinters and character (read: warping, knots, cupping, etc.). I would expect all of this with real wood, Pine 1x8 planks especially. Just as with real barn wood, cutting a square end to start with is helpful. If you really wanted this to look weathered, take a wide brush, and keeping the brush exceedingly dry, brush on a little red, and/or white, or if you’re a John Deere family, some John Deere green, then sand the surface quickly with a light sandpaper to take any sharp edges off. We don’t want that look right now, but it would look fantastic! We are over-the-top pleased with the finished product, and the ease of double the R-value of one of the hottest walls in the house is fantastic. These barn wood shiplap boards are great!

My wife and I are working on our family room. We are looking to give our home that "Farmhouse" look that really popular now. We just completed installing these 1" Thick X 8" Wide X 8' Long, rough-cut pine barn wood shiplap boards in whitewash white. It was super easy to install, using a level, circular saw, stud finder, and a nail gun. Some boards were slightly cupped, or warped. It gave the finished wall an authentic barn wood weathered look. The boards came finished on one side, and natural pine on the other.

I like the looks for this UFP barn wood look ship lap and am very pleased that there isn't a problem with it cupping and the pieces fit together well. I'm using as a bedroom feature wall and with the gray finish my wife says it has a Victorian look. Keep in mind that it's designed to look like barn wood, so the finish has a rough texture like aged wood would have. Each board is 1" thick x 8" wide x 8' long and six pieces come per package. I definitely recommend it for those who like the looks of shiplap and an aged appearance.

These look fantastic - rustic but not too much. Only minor complaint was that one trim board came warped beyond use (it was really twisted) but otherwise they went in easily. I did a feature wall in my kitchen as well as wrapping a new island.

We used the shiplap to accent our dining room... and it looks beautiful... and went up well! The picture is not a finalized version, as we are still working on the remaining walls and capping! I love the country feel it gives the room, and I left it with the weathered looked!

We have plenty of projects going on around our house and replacing the wood paneling above the fireplace seemed like a great place to start. Shiplap was our first idea because we have a very large wall on the opposite side of the fireplace that will need redoing as well and since these come in 8 ft sections it will make the job go much faster. After receiving the product I opened up one box to inspect and get a better idea of how I was going to utilize this product. I started with the fireplace. I was going for a whitewash effect but after realizing that the brick used in our home is not very pourous I had to alter my plans go with just painting it all white. Im actually very happy with the way it turned out. As far as the product goes I gave it 3 stars because after unstrapping the bundle I let it sit for 3 days and didnt realize that it would warp as much as it did which made some boards not as useable. After undoing the second package I realized how much flatter those boards were because I left them strapped together until I was ready to use them. So if you plan on using this product dont undo the straps holding the boards together until you are ready to install them. Another reason for the 3 stars was due to the type of wood used. It was obviously very cheap wasnt as sturdy as I had hoped. There seemed to be some weird strings that would stick up from the face of the board after I painted it and I had to peel them off and repaint in those ares. All in all though I would still recommend this product but for the price I would have expected better quality and I really feel like companies are taking advantage of people looking to add the shiplap look to there homes. There should be no reason this costs as much as it does or any shiplap product for that matter.

The Barn Wood Charcoal Shiplap Pine Boards are an excellent product. They are truly the color of charcoal, a feature I find interesting due to the fact that it has to be difficult to get this result with either paint or stain on the wood. It is not just another gray shade. The natural side of the pine boards is so attractive, it's almost a shame to hide them.

    Cool Product
I really liked the color. No issues w chipping or cracking when cut. Be careful w nailgun placement, when you scrape the wood you can scratch the finish off but cant really notice it to much after install is done. Little pricey but you save time

I was attracted to this product for the Barnwood look, and my contractor wanted me to find something that was interlocking. So this product is exactly what I wanted to achieve a textured look. I chose to put this in a design to cover up a ceiling that I had to repair. I was satisfied with the look. My contractor worked with me and developed a pattern to frame it and then lay these across the ceiling as a way to cover an uneven area. The only issue I had is with the manufacturer, lots of room for improvement. Too many of the interlocking boards , and trim boards are marred, bowing, cut off, marks on the white wood etc. I literally went through 50 boards to get 9 of the trim , and thank goodness when I came in for the interlocking boards there were 52 of them up high, to get 21. And even the people who helped me , remarked they weren't put on a pallet. So the fault I would find in losing so much of the product ,is in the manufacturer's shipment of it. It tends to flake so I'm watching to see what it does, but as far as the look of barn wood shiplap it's exactly what I envisioned. You have to be willing to accept that you'll have to do a lot of searching to get enough boards worth using. Color variation is also a factor, matches could be different ;mixed in with boards that go from white to a beige, which is frustrating to try to pick them out. I searched several locations. The team at the Pontiac Michigan store was fabulous ,five of them helped me to get this out with highlow, and then they had to hand pick out 21 interlocking boards out of that bundle. I can't say enough good about the great team at the Pontiac Michigan store.

We've had several pallet and shiplap walls in our home, but I didn't know how I would feel about the gray finish on this wood. I was worried that it might look too fake and too manufactured. When we opened the boxes, I was unhappy with the finish of the wood. However, once we got it out of the poor lighting in the garage and into more natural light, I was much happier with the stain on the wood. Once installed, the variations between each piece help make it look more authentic and less manufactured. I was happy that the weathered look and texture of each piece made the shiplap look more interesting once installed. Although a lot of cuts were required because we chose to install around a cased opening, it was generally a quick and easy installation. Half a day, a good saw, and a nail gun and you'll have an accent wall people will drool over!

This rustic looking package of pine boards that have a rough-sawn feel, when attached to a wall in a room really make that wall stand out. It creates a new feel to an otherwise plain room such as a guest bedroom or game room. Although the overlap may be fitted tightly, the appearance on a wall with a half-inch exposure of the lap is my preference. While each board is 8 feet long, they are easy to cut to any length.

Product is great, I would recommend to anyone looking for this distressed barn wood aesthetic. I used as both an accent wall as well as paneling in a door. Both look great. One word of warning, this product was very wet when I bought it and some of the boards cupped, warped and twisted. I exchanged these and hung them right away, glued and trim nailed, and no warping after a month. So in my opinion don’t buy this and let it “season” like most lumber/paneling, get it on the walls quick.

The Barn Wood Dark Brown Shiplap will transform any room and add a rustic feel to any area of your house. The distressed and rough surface of the pine draws your attention and adds that instant visual appeal your looking for. Even though the wood has a rough surface it is still smooth enough to run your hand over it and not get any splinters or cuts. So you can feel comfortable using this wood can on an accent wall, on a ceiling or even as wainscoting. Additionally, the shiplap has a matte finish to it. The description states that this is dark brown, however it has more of a light brown appearance. The wood cuts easily and goes up even easier.
