Bought this to use on a solid oak table I...
Bought this to use on a solid oak table I was refinishing. After spending time stripping and sanding the table completely, I started to white wash it. An hour later and 6 times of applying, letting it sit and wiping the excess off its no more white than when I started. It now just looks like a dirty unfinished oak table. Nothing like the example in the store. Now I have to waste time resanding the base and go back and spend more money finding some other product to use. Total waste of money and I'm stuck with a mostly full can of crap I can't use.

We need to know more to get to the bottom of this, Amy. For best results using Varathane White Wash Interior Wood Stain, apply one coat of stain liberally with a brush or clean, lint-free rag. Allow to penetrate for 2-3 minutes, then remove excess by wiping with a rag in the direction of the grain. Longer penetration times will lead to a darker color. It's s very nice product I picked white wash...
It's s very nice product I picked white wash color and I try to use the clear polyurethane it shows on the container, but it doesn't match with white, so I went back to painter of hone depot and they recommend to use water base clear polyurethane I hope it keeps the white color in my cabinets, very nice color hen it dried, I love it,

Let's see what we can figure out. For a uniform coating of Varathane Whitewash Wood Enhancer, apply liberally with a brush or clean lint-free rag. Allow to penetrate for 2-3 minutes then remove excess to ensure proper dry time and adhesion of topcoat by wiping with a rag in the direction of the grain. Longer penetration times will lead to more opaque layer of Whitewash. After 1 hour an additional
coat can be applied to build to desired opacity.

Let's see what we can figure out. Varathane White Wash Interior Wood Stain can only be applied to bare wood, remove any existing finishes with sandpaper or liquid stripper. Prepare bare wood for staining by sanding in the direction of the grain. Begin with #120 grit sandpaper and progress though #150, and #180 grits. Apply one coat of stain liberally with a brush or clean, lint-free rag.
Allow to penetrate for 2-3 minutes then remove excess by wiping with a rag in the direction of the grain. Allow the stain to penetrate longer for a darker color. Removal of all excess material is essential to ensure proper dry time and proper adhesion of topcoat.

Let's see what we can figure out. Varathane Wood Stain Whitewash is a pigmented solvent based stain. Clean application tools and equipment with mineral spirits.

Used on red oak floor after sanding, bleaching and linseed...
Used on red oak floor after sanding, bleaching and linseed conditioner. This white wash was applied using more of a painting technique, back brushing over after the application stroke no wiping. Initially the floor looked very murky. I waited 3 days then applied 2 coats of Varathane 2X water base satin poly. Then magic, over the next 3 days as it all cured the wood grain became more apparent through the satin sheen. I was impressed, the floor has a white sheen with the oak grain showing through. This white wash stain is very penetrating and may have been working with the oils and tints in the wood for days. The final results are positive on this red oak floor!
