I got this rotary tool to carve Fire Agates. This is obviously for people on a low budget. To my surprise, it worked way better then expected. The flex shaft didn't work at all, but I still gave it 5 stars due to the low price, and effectiveness of the tool itself.

Variable speed no longer functions hardly used. Max speed only. Disappointing.

I bought this tool to replace the Dremel 4000. I have handcrafted two chess sets with this tool and I am very satisfied. The only problem I have encountered is it will not handle the saw kit made for the Dremel.

I ordered this online & picked it up at my local Home Depot store, with no issues what so ever. But, I never expected this rotary tool to do what I needed it to do. It definitely has more than enough power to cut through a push washer. I even saw sparks flying! Wow! For the price, this can't be beat. Much more affordable than any other tool in it's class. Just be careful because this tool has quite a bit of rotary power. I absolutely love this tool! Just a friendly WARNING: Please, be sure to wear eye protection when using this! This comes with many different tools for cutting, grinding, buffing, and etching, perhaps others I have not mentioned. I'm so glad I found this & that Home Depot carries it.

It's straight forward for the price and what you get it's a great deal and the tool itself was impressively powerful. I don't usually write reviews but this tool kit deserves it!!

I love my Wen! This kit came with great accessories and I'm using it to carve celtic knots into the front of an old cabinet. I like the comfort and ease of using this tool. Would definitely recommend it.

Great rotary tool for the price. Cnc broke right before Christmas and was not able to finish one project so purchased this in a pinch. First time ever using a rotary tool let alone carving. It wasn't too bad.

I used this tool to cut out parts of my car's grill and it worked beautifully. The cutting discs sliced through the plastic like butter with only a few breaks (all my fault). The sanding bits smoothed down the edges perfectly. It had plenty of power for the job. If it eventually breaks, for this price I'll just throw it in the gutter and go buy another.

The WEN variable speed rotary tool is a great product to have around the garage. It can be used for a variety of projects. The collet sizes are standard allowing one to use accessories from a number of manufacturers if needed. I did however prefer the variable speed dial on the WEN compared to the slide switch of a competitor. The Power switch is near the rear of the unit and I found that inconvenient to use based on how I held the tool during use. That made it difficult to safely turn off the tool in certain circumstances. The flex shaft is a great addition as it allows more precision grinding, etc. The instructions for connecting the flex shaft confused me as I was looking at the pictures and one of them showed the collet nut removed. It turns out it was removed to demonstrate the position of a part being inserted but I did not understand that at first and the flex shaft did not rotate as a result. Once I corrected my error, the flex shaft worked great and I was able to use it with the high speed cutting bit to carve letters in wood. The case is made of a durable material and features a pocket for the continer of bits.

The Variable Speed Rotary Tool is quite a handy tool to have for small DIY projects. I used the tool with the flex shaft and various bits and accessories to carve out a sign to our beach. This was the first time I had used a tool like this and will definitely require some practice for various projects. Overall, I am pleased with the tool and it did meet my expectations.

Great addition to our tool collection. It is equipped with over 100 accessories. This kit provides a wide variety of bits, discs, spindles and more to meet the needs of any project. The bits are easy to change out with the provided wrench tool. You can attach the included 3 ft. flex shaft for jobs requiring intricate and complex detail work. I tend to use the tool without it for the most part. Designed to be used on wood, plastic and glass. Fits great in your hand and is easy to use. Fairly quiet. You can adjust the variable speed from 10,000 RPM to 32,000 RPM with the turn of the speed dial. Used it recently to clean up some edges on some tile. Worked well. My son also likes to use this to work on carving wood for art projects. One of my favorite things about this tool is the case. It keeps everything together nicely. The accessories also have their own separate case for easy storage of the small tips and bits. I have another rotary tool that doesn't have a case and I find that I use this one more often because of that convenience.

This is the WEN 23103 variable speed rotary tool. This tool comes with a nice selection of accessories (100+), a flex shaft, and carrying case. Photo 1 shows how the tool comes packaged. Photo 2 shows the box with the accessories, (including polishing wheels, sanding bands, drill bits, diamond-coated bits, stone grinding bits, a dressing stone, cut-off wheels, sanding discs, 1/8” collet, 3/32” collet, wrench, and appropriate mandrels. Bit changing is typical for this type of tool—you hold down the spindle lock and tighten or loosen the collet with the supplied wrench. The 1/8” collet is pre-installed in the tool. I think the hardest task for a rotary tool is cutting off metal, and this is one of the main tasks for which I use this type of tool. I connected the Flex Shaft (easy to do) and used one of the supplied cut-off wheels, on a 6-32 machine screw (see Photo 3). This worked fine. Next, I thought I’d go after a 3/8” piece of all-thread (Photo 4). This was more difficult for the cut-off wheels, it took four to accomplish the task (see Photo 5—the one on the left is a new one for reference, the others are the ones used to complete the cut). The important thing is that the tool never bogged down and handled rather nicely. The actual ease of cutting is more a function of the quality of the accessories. Use high-quality cutting accessories and the tool will have no problem. After the cutting, I tried several sanding and grinding accessories and had no problems. When it came to drilling, I found out that the Flex Shaft had a considerable amount of run-out. When I put a known-straight drill bit directly in the tool, there was no run-out. Thinking it may be a collet issue, I swapped collets between the tool and Flex Shaft with no change in results. I contacted Wen to see if they knew what the problem could be. Wen’s position is that the flex shaft, because of the nature of the rotating shaft inside a rubber tube, run-out is unavoidable. They recommend installing drill bits directly into the tool and not use the flex shaft for drilling. Engraving, sanding, and similar functions can be done with the flex shaft. This attitude is consistent with my tests. The flex shaft did seem to work well enough with the non-drilling accessories. And truth be told, I’ve never used a rotary tool for drilling anyway—that’s what I have a drill press and cordless drills for. Overall, I’d say you get a lot for your money with this tool kit and recommend it.

Great design features in this WEN variable speed rotary tool! First, its carrying case is well thought-out with a clear top so you can see all of the supplied components, including the attachable flexible shaft for using the tool in tight or awkward spaces. It has a compact smaller case inside with over 100 accessories, such as grinding and drilling bits, sanding disks, and polishing pads, so you really can tackle most any job with the supplied accessories. I found the thumbwheel speed adjustment easy to use, and the body of the tool was a very comfortable fit in my hand. The bits are easy to install and remove with the supplied wrench (see picture). Just press the orange locking button and use that wrench. The motor was well-balanced because I did not feel any vibration when using the tool. It is far better than other rotary hand tools I have used in the past thanks to its good design. It even comes with a very useful 15-page manual that has break-out diagrams of all of the accessories (explaining their intended use) as well as the parts of the tool (in case you need to order replacement parts). There is even a link for a video explaining the process to attach the flexible shaft. The folks at WEN really have thought of everything! I am impressed with this very complete tool package. I highly recommend it!

This tool and kit breathes versatility. The variety of bits and attachments alone provide enough options to do just about anything a rotary could ever do. The organized clear case for the set is also compact and easy to sort through to get the right bit/tool attachment for the job. The variable speed also helps with fine work to get just the right touch. The flex shaft is another useful addition that most rotary tools do not have. The rotary tool and the whole set surpass my other two rotary tool sets by miles. The only downside is that the included wrench is snapped into the case so tightly that it's next to impossible to pop out of there.
