No more bulky gas grills for us!
We're addicted to this mighty Jumbo Joe. We've smoked ribs, roasted a chicken , done hamburgers and hot dogs. Taken it camping and on a day trip fishing. It's so versatile and NOT at all cumbersome. Love it!
This my third Weber grill. I have had two if the 14” very durable. This 18” is perfect for grilling for myself or for friends and family. The larger grill affords the space to add more food. Which means happier guests.
This little guy is perfect for the mobile griller. You can take it anywhere with ease. I do wish there was a 22” model though. I thought about converting one of my two 22” kettles into a jumbo jumbo joe, but that would leave me with only one 22” Weber kettle grill when every man needs at least two.
After Decades of Weber Gas Grills, I wanted to try my hand at Smoking some Ribs on a Real Charcoal Grill. I had the original Smokey Joe when I just got out of high school, but I wanted a larger grill for more grilling/BBQ possibilities without breaking the bank.
The Jumbo Joe fit the bill perfectly! I love the locking lid to make it truly portable in a safe/non messy way. I prefer this over the 18" Weber Kettle on wheels, and its less expensive!
I've done three separate Ribs smokes, and a night of Burgers on the Jumbo so far, and all came out perfect. I forgot how much tastier food is on charcoal vs gas!
After watching many online videos, I've come to realize that Grilling/BBQ on a Weber Kettle actually has better control (IMO) than my gas grills.
On one occasion I did wish for a bit more room to smoke more ribs (I tried the Rib Rack, and do not like how they lean on each other, I feel they don't smoke/cook as even as just laying flat - returned the rib rack).
After further research, and using a compilation of Ideas, I made myself a removable/adjustable second tier using a Smokey Joe (14") Grill grate and stainless steel hardware. Now I can almost double the volume of food on my Jumbo. It can also be used as a warmer to separate from the hotter main grate.
We have also used the Jumbo as a small portable Fire Pit, which was actually the original Idea for the use of the Jumbo Joe, at time of purchase. So, basically I have two great outdoor appliances for the very reasonable price of one!
We Love our Jumbo Joe!
Grill for home, grill for outings. This grill works well in both settings. Backyard table and you’re set at home. For outings it can be placed anywhere. After you’re done grilling the vents close well to contain the fire and ashes inside to snuff the fire quickly. The carrying handle/lid holder is one of its best features. I’ve actually smoked with it and use the lid lock/holder to keep control of the oxygen, which has allowed me do low and slow quite easily for about 8 hours. It won’t do much more because of its lack of space to keep ashes inside. The ash catcher does lock in place underneath which is a big plus when transporting. The Weber charcoal baskets do fit inside, although it would be difficult to use more than 1 effectively. Overall, it’s like my utility grill. Definitely recommend.
Jumbo Joe is the most versatile portable grill Weber makes! And it might be in my head but I think it keeps the heat better than other more expensive models. Highly recommend for the compact, portable but still regular size cooking area.
