Only used it for a short period a few weeks. Pretty noisy but worth the cooling. I used it in a 600sf apartment above a garage. Came with a window kit that can be used with sliding windows which was one of the main reasons for buying it. It seems like a good product and hope it last at least 5 years.

This was my second Whynter portable AC and am very happy with this addition to the house. Used the first one in the cold room to keep can good and other food at a controled temperture. Then the house HVAC went out and it took the repairman two trips to get it fixed over a 7 day period that the outside temps were over 100 degrees. This is when a second one was purchased and placed in the master bedroom as a backup AC. The house temps were in the 90+ degrees. These units are not a whole house but a single room AC and work great.

Good Portable A/C
I only use this as an air conditioning as I live in the desert and have no need for a dehumidifier so I can't speak to that. I use it in a master bedroom that is about 300 square feet & has 16 foot high ceilings. It cools the room great, no problem with cooling it's a work horse. It's very easy to install. Heres what's not so great about it, changing the filter is a lot more work than my last portable A/C. Also, it has to me, a lot of complicated and useless features and the manual is of absolutely no help. The unit may have been made in the US but the manual was written else where-very confusing.

Works well but has design issues
First, let me say this does a good job for its main function, I.e.; cooling a fairly large area. We have it set up in a dining room that has large doorways leading to kitchen, living room and family room, and with ceiling fans helping to circulate the air, it definitely helps cool off the first floor. That’s the pro. Here are the cons:
1) technically it is portable, but only insofar as you can roll it from room to room. Forget being able to take it up and down stairs. It’s quite large and bulky, and weighs more than the average person can carry alone. Additionally, you have to be able to place giant vent tubing in a window, so you need a combination of window that opens to accommodate vent panel, a grounded outlet near the window, and a clear space for the cold air to circulate.
2) venting is awkward. There are two vents (air intake and exhaust), each one extends about 6 feet. While they are flexible, they have limitations and add to the bulk of the unit. Also, even though they are supposed to thread onto the end pieces that attach to the unit, they tend to pop off if you move it around or adjust the tubing.
3) window plate that attaches to vents lacks flexibility. The unit comes with a rectangular sturdy plastic frame that you place in the window for ventilation. There is also a smaller plastic piece that slides into the frame to adjust the width to fit different window sizes. Except it’s not long enough to accommodate wider windows, and to adjust for narrower windows it has to be cut down with a saw. If you cut it down, you’re screwed if you want to move the unit to a wider window. And if you have a window that slides horizontally or a crank out style, foggedaboutit. The window plate should have come with the type of flexible accordion panels that most a/c units have. As it stands, we’ve had to jury-rig the opening using duct tape and cardboard.
4) control panel: you get a nifty little remote control with digital readout to adjust your settings, which works great! But don’t lose it, because the unit itself only has a power switch and button to turn off the bright blue lights that burn into your dreams while you sleep unless you turn them off.
5) moisture collection drain valve: according to the manual, the unit isn’t really designed to use in high humidity environments. What?? Didn’t find that out until the unit shut down and we read that the moisture collection pan was full. Ok, Only one problem: the drain plug is only about an inch above the base of the unit, so finding something that can catch the water and fits under the plug is a challenge. Or you can attach a hose…
To sum up: the unit works well and cools a fairly large area, but for the cost, hassle and bulkiness of attacking vents, you could probably buy two window units that work just as well and take less time to install.

Works great. Pulls a LOT of power.
Great machine. Cools our bedroom nicely. The problem: our bedroom outlets are on a 15 amp circuit and this unit pulls 11 amps. We are older, so we also have oxygen concentrators and a C-pap. In the middle of the night, the breaker often flips, shutting down all our nighttime machines. We've hired an electrician to rewire the room with a 20 amp breaker with new wiring that can handle the extra load, but had I purchases a machine that pulls less amperage, that too would have fix the situation. This is why I gave it 4 stars. If you have the power, the machine works extremely well.

I've owned this unit for 3 months, but have waited for the extreme heat and humidity of Monsoon season to arrive to write a review. I use this in a single car garage which is connected to my house. Weather conditions have been averaging 100-115+ degrees, 10-50% humidity outside. The average temp in the garage is 90-95 degrees, concrete floor, racks of stored gear. I don't run the unit all day, only when I am in the garage. At 100 degrees outside and no humidity, this unit will bring the inside temp. down to 76 in about 1.5 hours. Remember the floor and all the stored things were 90 degrees too, so that needs to cool off before the temp starts dropping quickly. At 110 and 40% humidity, I run it for a couple hours, and it will get down to 82.
It was recently 120 degrees (No humidity) outside, probably 100 in the garage, and it cooled it to 82.
This unit removes LOT of humidity too. Today is 40% humidity, and 5 drops of water per second are streaming into the drain bucket I am using.
This unit has surpassed my expectations in this harsh environment, I have used it almost every day for 90 days in this heat, and it runs perfectly. It's also quiet, no odd sounds.
I would buy this again, I was worried I wouldn't be able to use my hobby garage for 4 hot months here.

The company is not following their own warranty.
Still under the warranty, the consumer have to pay for shipping and returning fee from the company? Impossible to contact with their customer service for shipping to them. This company respond my review "Thank you for your feedback. After reviewing your case, the three-year compressor warranty was honored and a return authorization was issued to you."

Not cooling after 2 summer.
I bought this unit based on positive reviews. However it last less than 2 summers. Last week we had over 80F weather so I turned the air conditioner but it's not cooling. I contacted to the company because their compressor warranty is for 3 years. They requested me multiple emails from basic stuffs such as how to check an air conditioner and my receipt. Finally I got an email stating that I have to pay for sending and returning the air conditioner to the company and if it's not compressor, I have to to pay the cost of repair. I AM DONE WITH WHYTNER STUFF. Don't buy unless you like to waste your money.

I live in a small attic apartment in an old Victorian house. It gets deathly hot up here and this portable A/C seemed absolute perfect. It’s high tech and works very well... BUT you need to have high voltage outlets. On a hot day(85+ degrees) I can’t have anything else on in my apartment or else it trips the breaker.

Doesn't work consistently, seems to work great at times. But often is just sitting there not running while the room heats up, so you're going to wake up sweaty and miserable, and the remote. I get what they were trying to do. Idk maybe I got one that's a little off, pretty good chance I haven't got to know it well enough. Good luck with the exchange because the protection plan is a "separate transaction " I have yet to be emailed.
