Roll was delivered last week and I unwrapped the packaging, which was already open at both ends, today. The plastic-y, chemical-y smell coming off this stuff is unreal; it literally makes me gag. I was going to hang this as a curtain over an unused exterior door in a finished room that lets a lot of sound in from outside, but if this smell sticks around that won't be possible. I've tried researching how long the smell might last, but what I'm reading says that high-quality MLV shouldn't really smell much at all, and one that smells will likely continue to smell as the plasticizers break down over time.
I'm going to leave the sheet to air out in my garage over the next few days. If the smell completely goes away, I'll come back and update this review to 3 or 4 stars, because having to air something so large and awkward out will still be inconvenient. If any amount of the smell persists, this product will only be suitable for use inside a wall before you put the drywall up, and completely useless inside a finished room.
