    Best primer you can buy.
This is probably one of the best primers you can buy. I bought it to seal torn drywall so I could properly repair it with mud without causing blisters to form. It works great! I also used it to prime over dry erase paint and old dry erase marker that would not come off. The primer had no issues adhering to the slick dry erase paint. I applied 2 coats over the areas with dry erase maker. The only cons are the vapors are strong and it’s thin which can cause drips. I highly recommend this product!

Terrible results, used exactly per directions
See my photos. Uneven marks, left white discoloration, brush and roller marks was like cottage cheese after it was mixed. Not sure why all the rave, this stuff was terrible. I prepped my wood, sanded, and look at the photos. Awful application and results.

We need to know more to get to the bottom of this Tyler. Zinsser B-I-N Shellac Based Primer should not be the consistency of cottage cheese, it should be perfectly smooth. Give us a call at 888-855-1774 so we can hear more about your application and work to make things right.

A favorite for all my projects
Best for all my projects. Covers all woods. Prevents all bleedthrough. Dont try to clean your brush. Let it dry as is. When you want to rejuvenate brush soak in denatured alcohol for 20 minutes.

        Waste of money
Bought this for finishing a patch where the drywall had cracked in the bathroom and had torn the old drywall paper. Sanded and cleaned the entire bathroom and primed using BIN the walls and ceiling to tie all together. The next day cracks and peeling had formed over all painted surfaces. Complete disaster.

Expensive, but worth it. Little bit thin, but made it easy to apply to knotholes and grooves in the knotty pine room we were painting. So far, no bleed through from any knot holes. Great product.

          Garbage
We used primer for our cabinets because it came highly recommended. It was a complete waste of money. We sanded even though it said you didn’t have to. Even after 2-3 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint, the slightest bumps and it all comes off. We now are spending more money and time to redo them with ValSpar primer.

Let's see what we can figure out Amanda. Zinsser B-I-N Shellac Based Primer reaches full adhesion in 3 days, lower temperatures and multiple coats will prolong dry time and full cure.

            best primer for laminate
This is the best primer for any laminate or fake wood job. It adhered without having to sand it first. It dried super fast. Easy to use and the consistency is very thin so it was easy to apply it. It is best used with a foam roller. The only thing was smell. But I made sure I used a mask and it didnt bother like that. I will never buy again another primer. This is the best primer i have used

Defective product ..don't waste your time
The primer on interior OSB board after 4 days dry time wiped off the board with a sponge. The primer on the ceiling is peeling and cracking , coming off by it's self . What a waste of 5 hours of sanding and prepping only to have to start over with a bigger mess then I started with. How am I going to get this crap off so I can start over. Thanks a lot. Seeing a review for the same problem last month leads me to believe that they don't care to insure they sell good products . They should have pull the bad primer and HD knew that also and yet they still sold it.

Let's talk about this, PJ! To ensure full durability with Rust-Oleum Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-Based Primer, we do recommend applying a topcoat within 3 days of application. If a topcoat cannot be applied within that time, then the surface may need to be lightly sanded or a new coat of primer may need to be applied. If you would like further assistance with your application, please give us a call at (888) 855-1774, so we can try to make things right with you.

Hi Lu, our Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-Based Primer is designed for interior use, and spot priming on exterior surfaces, for sealing knots. If the primer was applied to a surface that goes through wide variance in temperatures such as an outdoor wall for instance, it will crack over time. We need to know more about the application and what occurred to get to the bottom of this. This primer will cover anything. I used it to prime my kitchen cabinets prior to painting. My cabinets were stained oak with a urethane coating. I cleaned the cabinets doors and lightly sanded with 320 grit sand prior to priming. Using the Zinsser 123 prevents the paint from chipping. It flows well and dries quickly

                  WORKS!!
I had been wanting a round dinner table and my mom had one that needed some TLC. So i decided to try and give it a face lift. I was so discouraged after sanding everything and using kilz primer just to see some brownish, yellowish coffee looking stains seeping through in certain areas. I researched what i could do to fix this issue and I DID NOT want to resand the whole table again. So luckily i came across a pintrest post recommending this product stating no sanding was required. OMG! this product is amazing!! I did no new prep work to the table before adding this product and it covered those ugly looking stains with just one coat. I will never use any other primer or sealer. THIS STUFF IS AMAZING

the is my go to. I spray cabinets with bin using a gravity feed 1.4 nozzle and it goes on flawlessly, drys very fast and sticks to anything and anything to it. the only cons is it is extremely difficult to get off were you dont want it. it's to messy to brush or roll. hvlp clean up is timely.

I sprayed, rolled and brushed updating my oak cabinets to white. I used a product prior to priming(krud kuttsr prepaint cleaner) then applied this and with 2 coats it adhears without any sanding.

                      Extreme Large Surface Cracking
I purchased this product to cover some smells in my house when I moved in. It seemed to be the perfect primer so I ended up using it in 4 rooms including all walls, closets and ceilings. The application was smooth with the primer’s watery and milky consistency but extremely potent in regards to smell. It was applied on clean previously painted walls in a cool and dry environment. After the product dried I was satisfied with the results and thought it did the trick. After a couple coats of finish paint were applied and roughly 6 months went by I noticed hairline cracks everywhere this primer was applied and now even a few spots are peeling. RustOleum was responsive and helpful when I contacted them with my concerns and I was even refunded for my purchase. A small band-aid on the main issue of future repairs to get the finish looking like it should. However, I have noticed that most of these reviews occur immediately after application with no mention of long term affects. Researching shellac after-the- fact it is a thin and brittle substance that cracks when dried. Future users be aware this product is advertised as a primer that sticks to anything but it looks like it is having a hard time sticking to standard painted walls as the picture on the container suggests. Would not recommend for large applications what so ever.

I had knotty pine walls from 1955 and it covered all the knots for me to paint. Its only been 2 days but there is no bleed through. It took two coats but the one gallon was sufficient. The paint also adhered well.

Love this product! Stripped 18 doors and 36 Kitchen cabinets that were stained. Used the BIN primer on them all and the cover was seamless. Even in my kitchen drawer that had food coloring in it. The first coat I saw some of the food coloring, second coat it was gone. We went from brown stain to white paint, I needed something that would not let anything seep through. This did the trick. Bought gallons of this stuff. Downside, it does not come off things easily, prep surfaces well in advance. Got some specs on the floor, appliances and it did not coming off.

Decided to paint my own kitchen cabinets, instead of paying the lowest bid of $4,000. It is a lot of work, deglossing, sanding, priming with this Primer (2 coats), then 2 coats of a good cabinet paint. This primer has good coverage, it is thinner than regular paint, but it does cover nicely on oak cabinets. It dries very quickly and you must use alcohol to clean your brushes; it is not a latex water clean up process.

This product is just what we needed! Our home had dogs and puppies in it for 15 years, and mopping no longertook care of the "doggy" odors. Even 2 coats of kilz with fresh paint still left that animal smell! So on asking other breeders with indoor dogs, Zinsser was the way to restore our home! Thank you Zinsser! The CONS: This product is its incredibly thin And messy! Dont give up, just dont fill roller so full, and mask the floor. One thin coat is all it took us! It seals the wall amazing, no longer porous to release odors!

Recently purchased a home, only to discover after closing that the previous owners had allowed their cats to pee wherever they wanted. We pulled up the carpets, treated the stains, then sealed the subfloor with this product. I was shocked by how much it costed, but it was worth the cost. It sealed the floors really well, and the smell is now gone. I would definitely recommend.
