We had purchased a “used” cabinet in a garage sale. We had the “vision”....now to achieve it. Overall it was in good shape just needed a little lovin’. It was maple looking....we needed it bright white. Zinsser DID THE TRICK.....we didn’t even sand. One coat was all it took. VERY pleased. Would definitely recommend.

Horrible smell
Painted over some nasty brown color, covered over it fine. The smell has not gone away, it’s been over a week and has been painted over and the smell is still there. Almost tempted to take the drywall down that how bad it is. Also used it in the garage over and it’s unbearable. The assistant at the store recommended it and I figured for the price it must work.

Thanks for reaching out, Jay. The Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Primer is an oil-based coating and the odor will start to dissipate with proper ventilation and airflow. Additionally, this product will take about 7-10 days to fully cure. This means that the odor will get better as it dries. If you'd like to talk further, we'd be happy to try to help you with any questions you may have. Please reach us at (888) 855-1774. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1 Rustoleum

Zinsser Cover Stain is my preferred primer because it covers most stains and even odors left from smokers or pets in most rooms. It is thicker than other primers I’ve tried. In tight spaces like small bathrooms or closets ventilation is recommended.

do not use for primer on wood!
There are a lot of reviews saying use this as a primer for bare wood. Dont do it unless you dilute it with thinner or you will regret it. It does not level at all, very gloppy with a lot of brush strokes. You can sand it. What a mess.

That doesn't sound right. Rust-Oleum Zinsser CoverStain Primer is best applied over wood. It is important to ensure that the container is thoroughly mixed to get the right consistency. Make sure to use a natural bristle brush for application as opposed to a synthetic brush. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5 Rustoleum

      Dry time
This is my second attempt trying to use cover stain primer, it’s been 3 hours and it’s still wet. First time I tried it took over 12 hours to dry enough to sand. That’s too long I will not be using again

Thank you for sharing your experience using our Zinsser Cover Stain Primer. This primer dries to the touch in 30 minutes, and may be topcoated after 1 hour. Thicker applications, as well as low temperatures or high humidity can cause slower drying. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum
