After installing another brand of a WiFi controlled thermostat a couple of years ago, I just installed this one. It is light years ahead of the old one; from ease of installation and set-up, to the built in Alexa voice service. When I first removed the old thermostat and saw the wiring, I thought there is no way that I can do this myself. However, after contacting Ecobee customer service, the person who answered was so knowledgeable that I was amazed. After talking me through a couple of things, he immediately emailed some information with very good instruction. It then took all of 7 minutes to change some wiring at the furnace and install the new Ecobee4. I remember contacting the company from the old thermostat for wiring help, and all I got from him was that I need to call the installer. This guy was smart. The set-up steps that appeared on the thermostat were very good, including when to download the Ecobee app on my iPhone, how to set up the Alexa voice service linking it to my Amazon account, etc. Alexa is awesome on this. If we are cool, I can just talk in a normal voice from my sofa in the living room to the Ecobee in the hallway and ask her to change the temp……again, AWESOME. I can’t leave out the jokes that Alexa tells when I ask for one, or the weather report, and the list goes on. The additional room sensor is amazing also. I have it set up to know when I am in a room and for it to keep that room a certain temperature. I will be ordering more of these. Definitely look at this before you buy anything else. It works with other smart home devices as well. One more tip of my cap to the customer service person at Ecobee.

Highly recommended. We had the nest before switching to the ecobee3. I only own the ecobee3 for 2 month before the ecobee4 came out. Well guess what? I ended up replacing my two month old ecobee3 for the 4 and absolutely love it. We have a couple WeMo light switch and plug and since we didn't own any Alexa control devices we thought this would be the way to go. I can control all my WeMo product through the thermostat which is great. The ecobee4 is very sensitive when you say Alexa from across the room.

Functions are great and details of furnace usage can be viewed online. It works with 1 and 2 stage furnce and or AC/heat pump.Alexa is cool, but privacy is a big concern, she's not watching you. However, she is always listening unless you turn it off which can be turned on remotely. Your sounds/talking is sent to a server and stored forever. Ecobee3 maybe a better option if you value privacy.

  • Not an Echo Dot Replacement

Installation was easiest of any thermostat Imhave ever installed. The backplate is nice and allows for a clean appearance without having to patch holes and repaint the wall. Total installation time was under 10 minutes. The interface is not perfectly intuitive, but is very clean and polished. After a few weeks we have gotten used to the controls, though I am not sure we have tweaked all of the settings or been able to utilize the vast amount of data collected by the sensors. Alexa is definitely a feature-rich addition to anyone who does not already have an Echo dot. This is not at all watered down, and adds tons of functionality completely unrelated to the thermostat. However since we had an Echo Dot in our living room where the thermostat is installed, it is painfully obvious that the ecobee is not as responsive. We had to change the wake word for the Echo (you can't change the wake word for the ecobee) because the ecobee would fail to respond when often the Echo in the next room would. And when both devices heard a command and attempted to perform the same task, the ecobee took several seconds longer. This is a great thermostat with more features than any other, but not a great Alexa interface.

I absolutely love the ecobee4 thermostat with sensor! We have 2 now, one for our downstairs(owned 8 months) and one for our upstairs unit(owned 1 month now). We found the thermostat locations in our home did not keep certain rooms regulated at the temperature we desired. We placed the sensors in bedrooms and the ecobee app lets you see the temp at each thermostat and sensor. You can base the temperature on a combined reading of the thermostat and sensor or based on the sensor alone. The ecobee app is intuitive and easy to use since the ecobee4 has built in Wi-fi & Alexa. One tip, make sure you have a control wire(usually a blue wire) with dedicated electricity to where your thermostat is located. We found our old downstairs thermostat ran on batteries and we could only install our first ecobee4 after we had the control wire connected properly which cost us less than $75 by a professional(Sept 2017). With the ecobee4 you can set temps for both A/C & heat. For example, you can set cool to 72 & heat to 65 or any combination you prefer. The ecobee4 will keep the temp within your preset range and turn on the A/C or heat. You can also set a 7 day schedule for when you are away from home and keep your utility bill lower. My husband easily installed our upstairs ecobee4 on his own in less than 20 minutes. The unit comes with a nice mount that attaches easily and neatly to your wall. The ecobee4 also provides indoor humidity and local weather forecasts. My children often check the weather on the ecobee4 getting ready for school to make sure they are dressed for the weather that day. I love the away and vacation setting. I've forgotten to set up our vacation mode and can easily do it from the app on my phone when I'm away from home. If you like having smart features in your home, you'll love the ecobee4! This is an energy saving thermostat and we've saved on average $50/month in electricity using the features on the ecobee4! I did consider the price as a concern but the ecobee4 paid for itself in less than 5 months, saving valuable electricity! I cannot think of a negative and feel you will wonder why you didn't get one sooner! My review and opinions are my own. This Thing is the coolest thing ever. I had the nest thermostat then decided to buy the ecobee3 two month before the ecobee4 was going to be release, which I had no idea. So when the ecobee4 came out I went out and got it. I didn't have any amazon device equipped with Alexa so I didn't know what to expect. I have WeMo lights switch and plug and hue light bulbs. I eventually got all my devices link to Alexa. After messing with the thermostat I can sit in the living room and control every light by saying "Alexa turn on the living room light" This is what amazes me about it. the thermostat sits in the hallway but its so sensitive that you don't have to yell at the thermostat to do what you want it to do. This is by far the smartest thermostat. Cant beat it I would highly recommended with a couple of room sensors.

Got my New Ecobee 4 with built in Amazon Alexa and very excited to share my experience with you all. First off I want to say I don’t know how I went this long not owning an Ecobee Thermostat. I have always had Nest in my home but after using the Ecobee 4 for a few weeks it’s a much better thermostat in my opinion. The new Ecobee 4 has a built-in speaker and mic for Alexa and surprisingly it was much louder than I thought it would be, and very clear. Just give Alexa a command and you get that familiar blue LED at the top of the Ecobee that it’s listening. Commands with Alexa on the Ecobee 4 seem to be even a touch faster than some of the other Echo’s in my home. Setup was a snap and this time around I set it to control my Humidifier as well. It also came with 1 sensor and I think the sensors are what really sets the Ecobee apart from other smart thermostats. I ended up getting an additional 2 sensors for a total of 3. The Ecobee 4 can be setup to follow you in the house based on sensor activity so if you travel from room to room the temp will adjust. These sensors are great and when added to a Smart Hub they can be used to trigger a flow based off motion or temperature. When I first setup the Ecobee 4 I entered my home , away, and sleep temp ranges and I haven’t touched it once to adjust, its doing a great job all on it’s own. The app is very easy to navigate and also they have an amazing dashboard on Ecobee’s website that allows you to get some great data history on usage. I added it to SmartThings and its working great and coming soon to Wink as well. Having the built in Amazon Alexa allowed me to have yet another room in my home that can be controlled by voice. Overall I am very impressed and I highly recommend getting one if you’re in the market. I have tried several smart thermostats in the past but the Ecobee by far offers the best features for the price especially now with the built-in Amazon Alexa. I have attached a few photos as well.

We had an ecobee 3 in our Hallway and an Echo Dot stuck to the wall to act as an interface for our home automation system and simple queries.. When i heard about the ecobee 4, it was a natural succession to replace the 2 with a single device, and it delivers well for the most part.. Replacing the ecobee 3 with a 4 was easy, turn off power to HVAC, note what wires go where (take a picture if needed), swap the base and insert the new unit and configure it There was no easy way to transfer the settings over and am glad i did not delete the old thermostat from the portal as that helped me go back and forth between the 2 thermostats and copy the settings over.. I was also able to use the 2 additional remote sensors that i had purchased with the ecobee 3 with the ecobee 4 Alexa voice control works well under most circumstances, but i do get the occasional response from the other echo dot 2 rooms down (as mentioned by others) and its a limitation on the 3rd party Amazon Voice service integration (which i hope ecobee is able to address working with Amazon, given their partnership agreements)... Yes i cant play music on the ecobee (it would be cool), but for our use case, to control the HVAC, and lights on/off through Smartthings and wink, adding items to our grocery list, checking the weather it works well..

  • Not for condos

I learned the hard way. If you live in a condo, especially a high rise building, and don’t have a furnace in your space, this will not work for you. According to the compatibility guide, my thermostat is wired such that it should work with this product. But reading further into the instructions, I found out I needed to install an adapter at my furnace. Well, I have a fan coil unit in my condo and don’t have access to the building’s furnace. So no Ecobee for me. I’m so disappointed because Ecobee’s product seems better than Nest. And now that Nest has extra temperature sensors (and doesn’t require a c-wire), I guess I’ll return my Ecobee for a Nest.
