Questions & Answers

You don’t leave enough room - 2nd question: since the magnetic gauge won’t attach is it possible I was sent the wrong pipe? 3rd - Is there a workaround for this issue? AI suggested wire wrap or screws - neither will work with my temperature gauge. Thanks.

Answer This Question

We do not suggest using wire or screws to secure your gauge to the stovepipe. This does not make sense, since a magnet will hold to any & all of the stovepipes we offer. Please contact our Technical Support line at 800-433-6341 for additional assistance.

Your AI states that there should be no issue with a magnetic pipe temperature gauge sticking to it yet I cannot get one to stick to it. It is a new gauge with a strong magnet and designed for this use. Can you tell me what the issue is?

    Answer This Question

It doesn't make sense, the AI is correct in that the standard DuraBlack Stovepipe is made of steel and is magnetic. The optional stainless steel version might be slightly less magnetic than the standard steel version, but both should be magnetic. The thin zinc coating and paint layer shouldn't be enough to cause issues, so the magnet should still stick to the pipe. There should be no reason the magnet won't stick to the pipe.

What 6" to 3" reducer will fit this? Thanks
      ByDec 8, 2025
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

You can't reduce a 6" stove outlet collar down to a 3" pipe. That is a reduction from 28 square inches of cross-sectional area down to 7 square inches of cross-sectional area. That means reducing the space for flue gases by 75% - so you'd only have enough room inside the 3" pipe for 25% of your flue gases. Reducing the outlet collar even one size is rarely if ever done & this would be 3 sizes.

What kind of 6” elbow will fit over my old stoves receptacle. It’s a little wider than 6”, and the standard 6” elbow won’t fit over the stoves colar.

        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

You want the piece of pipe connecting to the stove's outlet collar to slide inside, not over the outside. With natural draft, there's no positive pressure, nothing pushing the flue gases/smoke out. Hot air rises, so the smoke leaves by way of natural draft. Instead, you want to ensure there is no way condensation and creosote can get out. Putting the 1st piece of stovepipe (& every piece after that), so it goes inside the collar below, keeps the condensation and creosote inside.

Do these snap together one inside the other to make longer sections?
          ByNov 4, 2025
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

The single wall DuraBlack Stovepipe gets secured with screws. After 2 pieces are connected and the pipe seam is facing the wall, use 3 sheet metal screws, equally space around each joint. You can drill three 1/8" holes around each joint, then screw in the sheet metal screws. You can connect multiple pipe lengths to achieve longer lengths. We also offer a telescoping length that adjusts from 44" - 68" and slip connectors for adjustability.

Can this piping be used for an oil burning furnace?
            ByNov 4, 2025
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

The DuraBlack stove pipe is approved for use as connector pipe only. It could be used to connect your oil burning appliance to your Class A Chimney, but it can't serve as the chimney itself. Because of some of the components within fuel oil, it is wiser to use stainless steel stove pipe. The double wall Duravent DVL has a stainless steel inner liner, which would give much better product life. Plus the double wall pipe would help keep the flue gases warmer, and the draft stronger.

My flue is 5 7/8 inches, I can not find an adapter to fit the 6 inch pipe. Would this product help?
              ByOct 29, 2025
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

The inlet end of the 6" DuraBlack Stovepipe is 5-15/16". You want this to slide to the inside of your outlet collar, so creosote and condensation stays inside. If the inlet end of the adapter isn't quite small enough, you can use crimpers to reduce the size.

Great product that goes well with all duravent products. Had picked up another brand but it was a pain to clip together. Found the durablack at a better price and it was perfect.

                  Cheap Coating
Coating is cheap, burned off and made the house stink like burnt plastic. Save your money and purchase a diffrent brand.

                    So so smells when hot
I like the product that its assembled and has tapered and flared ends. Makes for a clean install. My only gripe is that when heated it off gasses something terrible. When really hot there is a smell of burnt plastic. Happened 4 times in a month. Im hoping it stops soon. Good product other than the off gas smell when really hot.

                      Stinky and smoky
At 400 it started smoking like crazy and filled the house with smoke and toxic fumes. On our 5th fire with modest temps it’s still stinky. They should prefire these at the factory to save properties grief. Otherwise, they are good quality. But plan your first fires at temps where you can open windows.

Perfect size for connecting my wood cook stove pipe. I love that it’s welded together and I don’t have to snap it into place. Great quality.

                        NOT SAFE LETS OFF FUMES
Installed stove pipe made sure to remove and clean all stickers off of pipe. Stove gets up to temp and makes whole house smell like burning plastic. Cannot be good to breathe in. The gloss outer paint layer is what I believe is letting off the fuses because it no longer has any gloss and is more Matt black after repeated fires in the stove. Shouldn’t be allowed to sell a product that lets off fumes like this. Would not recommend to anyone unless I wanted to poison them.

                          Great value for the dollar!
I like the large 4 foot sections of pipe because there are less chances of any smoke escaping during start up. I used to have a bunch of shorter snap together and lock pipes that would not provide the best seal. This one is clean and I feel my home is much safer using it.
