AnswersYou know, I didn't think of this so I understand the question. Over my sink it needed two and a quarter squares and I started at the cabinet edge. I know it really isn't noticeable to anyone but me, but I wish I had started in the middle. Though that is more difficult to do because you would have to measure very carefully and STILL put the left hand piece in first because it's meant to be hung left to right because of the overlap. Oh also, I forgot to put in my review but be careful when choosing squares. There are a couple of different tile layouts and it's good to mix them up so you don't end up with one color strip of the same color tiles in one place.

AnswersYou can buy it by the sheet in the store instead of a case of 12. That's what I did. I looked at it online often, so I saw it in the store and bought a few squares and scotch-taped them up. I loved it instantly and I bought the rest of the cases I needed that same week.

I am not very handy but I was able to freshen up my entire kitchen backsplash by myself. I used my cutting board for my paper crafts for straight lines and a box cutter around the window sill.

Love it! My kitchen counter and back wall have a textured, laminate surface -- supposed to look like granite or something. The tiles stick perfectly to it. After you rub it with the smoother, the textured surface can be seen slightly inside the tile but I don't think it affects the look even one bit. I absolutely love it. I'd say it looks like real tile maybe 75%. People say they love it and then they always touch it...so I think they are not positive if it's real, if you know what I mean. It's a 200% improvement over what I had, so it's a choice. If you can tell it's not ceramic tile, who cares if it looks great.
Easy to put up...it lifts up easily so you can re-position it until you are satisfied, and run a smoother across it. (like a credit card or plastic pan scraper) Cut carefully with a sharp blade. I found it was better to have it a sixteenth inch too big and trim with a sharp scissors if necessary...and I always measured carefully. I did it alone and it took about 8-9 hours for my small kitchen.

i had a small studio space that needed a stylish and inexpensive update. a few years of wear and tear had started taking their toll on surfaces that previously looked good. i stumbled upon smart tiles, and was definitely intrigued. when i received them and took them out of the box, my first reaction was wow-- these are pretty! they definitely had a nice and intriguing finish. i mean i know they are vinyl- but they really do look like tile and they had an interesting mixed feel to them (i.e., their dual finish).

i used this as a small back splash for a sink area, where had previously had polished concrete. once, years ago the concrete looked cool and modern but now it just looked dark and no longer so great! i also used it as a new backsplash for a bathroom sink area.

total installation time took a few hours, but application was relatively simple. we were just going slowly and carefully, to get precise and straight lines. we also ordered the edging, which i think is a must for a fully clean and polished look.

for the cost, and the careful but not extensive effort involved in application, i so far think these tiles are great! time will tell how well they stand up, but i have already ordered more in other finishes, for other rooms and areas. my initial impression is it is a very high quality and innovative product, and a relatively easy and efficient way for a little design and home redo!

Design hides minor flaws from an amateur handy man like myself. Overall it's a good alternative if you don't want to spend the dollar getting an actual back splash tile installed via a professional but at the same time it's not as easy as advertised
