Pergola & Patio Cover Installation
Whether you're looking for landscape decor or more living space to enhance your home's value, trust our professionals to install the pergola that’s right for you.
What is a pergola?
A pergola is an outdoor structure - made of wood, metal, or other material - with columns supporting a roofing grid that provide shade and partial protection for an outdoor living space. Often added as an extension to pre-existing homes, pergolas make great stylistic additions to a patio or back porch.
What are the main differences between sunrooms and pergolas?
While sunrooms can act as a true extension of your home, they don't provide the same outdoor living space feel as pergolas do. Pergolas can be installed attached to your house, or freestanding somewhere else in the backyard. Sunrooms provide more protection from the elements, but due to their structural design, pergolas make for beautiful outdoor lounge areas in the spring, summer, and fall. Finally, installing a pergola will typically cost less than adding a sunroom.
Do I need to obtain any building permits?
No. All permits required by your municipality will be acquired by your Home Depot professional.
What's included in the estimate?
When we provide you with an estimate during the FREE in-home consultation, our price includes materials, pergola construction and any permit fees.
Do I need to be present during installation?
You, or an adult over the age of 18 with the authority to make decisions, must be present at the start of the pergola installation process to review the project plans with the installation crew. It is also important to be present at the completion of the install so that you may complete the quality review checklist and review any maintenance requirements of your newly installed pergola.
Pergolas allow you to observe the beauty and wonder of the outdoors while enjoying the comfort and privacy of the indoors. Small pergolas are great for adding to the design and layout of a backyard, while large pergolas showcase more of the ornate lattice roofing. Pergolas also provide additional, outdoor living space for dining, relaxation or entertainment and add to the value of your home. Whether you're looking for a square or rectangle pergola, the design possibilities are endless.
You can trust The Home Depot to install a pergola that fits comfortably in your backyard and is within your budget. When you’re ready to add to your backyard living area, schedule a FREE in-home consultation, and let one of our professional pergola installers help you plan, design and build your new outdoor structure. We use premium-quality materials, offer a minimum one-year labor warranty and even clean up and haul-away leftover debris.
Wood Pergolas & Pavilions
High-quality pergolas or pavilions made from real cedar are a classic and stylish addition for outdoor entertaining. Whether you’re looking for a free-standing pergola, a garden arbor, or a patio structure that’s attached to the exterior of your home, our installers can help you add to your outdoor space. A cedar pavilion is a larger, more complex wood structure that includes a solid roof, often accompanied with traditional roof shingles. For an outdoor space that’s perfect for dining and entertainment, a wood pavilion or large pergola may be the best choice for you!
Getting an extended metal pergola installed provides additional shade and shelter while still allowing you to enjoy the great outdoors. Metal pergolas are made with high-quality, durable steel and aluminum parts. With a variety of lattice roof options, the style of your metal pergola is largely up to you! Metal pergolas are made of maintenance free materials and are weather resistant, allowing for lush outdoor living spaces for everything from backyards with pools to quaint outdoor dining areas.
Installation Guides & Instructions
Specific installation methods and instructions will depend on the type of pergola you’re getting ready to have built. Rather than trying to make sense of directions involving complex wood or metal pergola parts and the required tools, let us do it for you! Utilizing The Home Depot Home Services for your pergola installation project means you’ll get the job done right the first time. You can count on our contractors to stand behind the work.
Preparing for Installation
When you call to set up a pergola installation appointment, make sure you're ready to answer some important questions. For instance:
• Are you interested in a cedar or an extended metal pergola?
• Where do you want the new outdoor structure built?
• Do you want the new pergola built on an existing slab or deck?
• What does your homeowners' association allow?
• Are wires, sprinkler systems, or gas lines buried near the job site?
• How do you plan to utilize the pergola?
• Is it merely a cosmetic upgrade for the backyard or will it double as a patio cover for dining and entertaining?
