Warm-season lawns need water every few days in the summer. Those lawns stay green if they're healthy.
When's the best time to water my flower garden?

Grow a Healthy Lawn
If you're concerned that your lawn has crispy and brown blades of grass, don't panic. It's possible that you've got a cool season grass that basically goes to sleep and turns brown in the blazing summer sun. If that's the case, it'll be an overall shade of brown, but not green with brown patches. See if the roots are alive by tugging on a blade of grass: If it comes right out, the grass is likely dead and you'll need to replace it with grass seed or sod. If it doesn't come right out, it's dormant. That means it's growing and resting underground. Dormant grass should be watered deeply once or twice a week — if it doesn't rain — but not fertilized.
Warm-season grass stays green in the summer. If you have this kind of lawn, water it deeply once a week. Give it another drink every day or two, depending on your weather. Avoid overwatering, and let the lawn dry out after heavy rains before you get out the garden hose or sprinkler again. If it's especially hot out, water when the top two inches of soil is dry to the touch. It's ok to let it grow taller this time of the year, as cutting it too short isn't healthy for this kind of lawn.
Watch Your Garden Thrive
Water your garden to keep it alive between rainstorms and keep the summer flowering humming along. A general rule when watering plants and flowers is to aim the water at the roots. A garden hose, sprinkler, or drip irrigation system will work well. You don't need to water or even mist the blossoms themselves. Many flowers droop and wilt when but recover when they dry. Succulents are an exception to basic watering rules, so look up your specific types of succulents to optimize their care.

When they're healthy, trees live many decades — and some for hundreds of years. Consider how deep the taproots go, how far the roots extend outward, and the full-grown size of the trees you want. Trees will always find the most accessible source of water, so be sure to plant them away from the water lines so they won't be damaged by moisture-seeking roots. A tree with a full canopy of leaves catches wind like a sail, so make sure it's planted a safe distance from your home.
