Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. You can bond laminate to a substrate of MDF or particleboard to make a new countertop. You can resurface new laminate over old laminate if the existing top has square edges and the laminate is smooth.

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. The matte finish cannot be used as dry-erase marker board. All Formica® Laminates in the gloss finish (-90) are writable surfaces. The gloss finish can be used as a dry-erase marker board.

Q:Can laminate be applied over a tiled counter?

      Answer This Question

A:  with contact cement it can be applied over tile but it will not be a good surface. the tile, while it looks smooth and level will have small highs and lows. I would not try this. if you remove the tile youll need to have a smooth surface to install the laminate. I'd remove the entrire counter and use a new piece of MDF as the substrate to attach the laminate.

      by|Aug 3, 2023

A:  If you put down plywood first. The tile would need to be very flat with no bumps or the laminate would be bowed.

A:  Thank you for your question. We do not recommend that you apply laminate over tile. You may only install laminate over MDF or particleboard.

                Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. You will need to sand the existing planks where you want to apply new laminates. Clean the dust off and use SOLVENT based contact cement. If you use water base adhesives, it will fail.

Q:My plan is to glue this to 3/4" plywood and then rout Dovetail slots for the Microjig system. How safe will I be that the laminate won't chip from the router? Is this a bad idea? It would really be nice if you think it will work. Thank you in advance!

                        Answer This Question

A:  It should work. Are you using contact cement? I’ve always trimmed laminate with a router and never had any problems. I also used this black laminate to make a router table top. I laminated it first and plowed dadoes into it for tracks. Worked fine.

A:  yes it will work fine, use contact cement and a pressure roller to ensure solid contact. And a new carbide bit will ensure clean edges

A:  It should work fine. I haven't used the Microjig dovetail cutter in laminate (works fine on Melamine), I have cut dados using my router in several different brands of laminate. One hint is to use either a straight cutter, or a down spiral cutter. If you were to use an up spiral cutter, you will more that likely chip. With the Microjig dovetail cutter, you should be fine.

A:  I don't think that will be a problem if it's glued to the plywood already. The Formica cuts cleanly without chipping with a router bit.

A:  I laminated this product to full sheets of 1/2in plywood then cut up my pieces to size and never had issues with chipping.  Sharp bits and blades would be the key!

A:  Thank you for your question. You cannot glue laminate to drywall. Apply HPL to MDF with Contact adhesive. Apply MDF to the wall using GE supreme silicone adhesive or liquid nails You must make a panel of MDF then bond the laminate to the MDF. Once the panel is bonded to the MDF, you may bond the assembly to the drywall using panel adhesive ( like Liquid Nails ).

A:  VERTICAL INSTALLATION IS POSSIBLE. . USE GOOD CONTACT GLUE ON THE WALL AND THE FORMICA, ALLOW THE CEMENT TO DRY AND THEN CAREFULLY POSITION IT IN PLACE. IF POSSIBLE USE TRIM PIECES ALONG THE EDGES TO HELP HOLD IN PLACE AND PREVENT LONG TERM SAGGING OR CURLING.
