I was pleased with the overall quality of the wood, but it required more sanding than I thought it should to get to a smooth surface.It did paint well with a sealer and 3 coats of spray gloss enamel.

Had to use a flush cut wood worker's type saw to trim the ends where the rails were cut off. I was making the rails 8 ft long. Easy to paint and required very little sanding.

This is an excellent product at a great price. It isn't Oak so it is a softer hardwood which makes it prone to scratches, nicks and dings, especially prior to finishing. This is the only reason I didn't give it a 5star rating. It varies widely in coloration, but that is to be expected with Poplar and personally I like a lot of characteristic in my wood.

Thanks VicS, for leaving a review. Poplar is typically a paint-grade, soft-wood specie that finishes smooth with paints and very dark stains. It is a soft-wood, so it's less resistant to dings and dents, though those may be repaired quite easily. We're happy that your project was successful!
