Returned it after two cuts.
I returned this mower after two cuts. The description says the battery's are good for up to 70 minutes. Ideal for 3/4 of an acre. I have a corner lot. I have .23 of an acre + 3 ditches. Also minus the house and shed. It takes me 45 minutes to cut the lawn. I cut the lawn with the side shoot open and I got 30minutes on the first battery. Thought that was decent. The second battery I got about 20. I tried cutting some heavy grass. Afterwards I couldn't get the battery to charge because it was too warm. This was a red flag. The second cut was exactly a week of growth, and I decided to try the mulching. The grass was a bit thick, but nothing crazy. The battery lasted 12 minutes. And was too warm to charge.. the second battery also died close to 15 minutes. And because the first battery was too warm to charge I was dead in the water. I wanted to try battery, I wanted to be green. Just batteries aren't reliable enough yet, in my opinion. The pros: the machine ran nice, cut well, I liked the triggers for the self propel. Really easy to store. The machine has a lot of positives, it's just the unreliability of batteries that got me. I'm still going to give this 3/5 stars. Because even though the battery was inefficient for my needs, it was still a hard decision to return. It was a nice machine.

My mower stopped in two years
I have owned this mower for two years and I haven't even used that much since I hired someone to mow my lawn in the first year. Now the blade stops whenever the mower is self-propelled. I searched and it looks like many people experienced the same issue. I am now stuck with a 600-dollar "push mower" and it is very frustrating in middle of the mowing season. Please do your research and don't waste your money on this product.

Don't waste your money - Fire hazard
Bought this three years ago. If you have a small town house it might work ok. Any larger and you spend more time charging batteries and waiting around than mowing the grass. One of the batteries we got with it was defective and only lasted 15 minutes. Finally gave in and wasted another $250 on a 3rd battery. Still run out of battery before we finish mowing when rotating the three. We switched to electric so my wife and teens wouldn't have to mix gas, we wanted a safer experience. Imagine our surprise when it caught fire this week. Nothing like smoke and flames to make you feel safe. I love ryobi 18+ hand tools, I will never buy another 40v tool and deeply regret wasting $1000 on this piece of junk.

        blade hits deck
I read the reviews about this issue but since they were a few years old I figured Ryobi must have fixed it by now. Nope. Bought this on Saturday, used it today, returning it today. Come on Ryobi, just make the blade one inch smaller and problem fixed. I love my many Ryobi tools but this is very sad and probably dangerous

          I’m impressed
I was a lil worried about not having enough power to cut my yard, a little under an acre. But I didn’t realize it’s only using one battery, so I ended up having enough to almost cut my yard twice. If anything changes I’ll write an update, my Honda mower use to be the best I’ve ever owned, if this continues, this will be my new favorite.

So far, so good. I have used my mower several times already and it works great. It comes fully assembled and is easy to just lift the handle, charge the batteries and go. It is also easy to adjust the mowing height. I can get through my entire lawn (1/5 acre) on one battery. I love how it stores in the garage. At age 72 I am finding the self-propel feature really nice. My old gas mower (which still works) was getting difficult to push around and I know I won't miss the maintenance on it that I always performed myself. Time will tell how it ends up holding up, but I do have confidence in it as I LOVE my other Ryobi tools that have been "at work" for many years already.

Excellent Mower, but with severe Engineering flaw
Every 40v Ryobi lawnmower suffers from the same basic engineering design flaw, but fortunately is easy to fix. The issue is lack of heat dissipation & the fact the encasement traps heat. This leads to batteries overheating far more frequently & reducing the lifespan of batteries. To fix this design flaw, remove the top of battery encasement. [See pic] You’ll extend the life of your mower & batteries, plus it’ll seem more powerful unit as it’ll be more efficient operating in a cooler environment.

              So far it’s good
We only bought this mower a couple of weeks ago. We’ve always used ryobi products, so we were excited to get our first battery operated mower. We have used it twice and it does a great job. So much easier to use than our gas mower. And so much quieter! However, after we have noticed the handle separating at the seam ehich exposes the cords and wiring. Our complaint begins here. We have tried reaching out to ryobi and can’t get through to a real person to explain the issue. The live chat gives us information that doesn’t pertain to our issue ie: have you tried troubleshooting the problem?! I’m sorry but that won’t help at all! We finally gave up and tried the extended warranty that we purchased from Home Depot. We couldn’t get through to them either! What ever happened to decent customer service?! We spent 500 dollars on this and would like for it to look new at least for a while. We tried calling Home Depot to talk to them and ended up on hold forever! Maybe we’ll just carry it into the store and return it, Eve though we no longer have the box! We really just want the handle fixed. Yes, we would recommend this mower, but , if anything is broken or you have any other reason to get help with it, be prepared to not get any help.

Pickup was great Home Depot associate help me load it in my Jeep! Was nice enough to make make sure flat cart was dry before putting box on it. I love my electric mower, only uses 1 battery for my lawn.

I’ll never go back to gas!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had the mower for a little over a month. It’s everything I wanted and more. I never realized how much my gas mower made me smell like gas. The self propelled is fairly quick and easy to speed up or down. I cut grass that was about 4”-5” tall and cut down to about 2” with no problem.

                  Works well
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just purchased this mower and have only used it once. So far, so good. I got my entire back mowed and only used 1/2 of the battery while using the self-propel feature most of the time. My gas mower still works but it was not self-propelled and at my age (72) it was getting harder to mow my 1/5 acre lot. It came fully assembled, just flip up the handle and you are pretty much good to go. I don't bag my clippings so I do use the mulching plug and that was easy to install and appears to work very nice. My lawn is very un-even and it appears that the mower pretty much takes that in stride. I do mow high usually, and my old mower didn't mow high enough but this mower has plenty of adaptability when it comes to height adjustment. Time will tell how well the mower holds up and it did take a little time to get used to.

                    Impressive Mower
I was a bit skeptical about buying a battery operated mower but so glad I did. I have a lot of ryobi tools so this is just one more ryobi tool in my arsenal. It is quite, starts so easy and mows just as good as my old gas push mower. I have a small area to mow so I decided to buy a push mower. So glad I went with ryobi. They make great hand tools and now push mowers. No more having to stop to run and get gas. I just make sure the two monster batteries are charged and off i go.

Buyer Beware! No Reply from Warranty!
Shortly after getting it, a bolt near the blade went missing. I contacted Ryobi on 8/9/22, about the warranty asking to ship me a new bolt. I worked with Brandon. On 8/25/22 he ordered what he thought was the right bolt. I contacted him again on 9/1/22 and 10/17/22 to let him know that this was the wrong bolt. He responded on 10/17/22 saying he has forwarded my issue to tech and promised to get back to me. I never heard back. I wrote to him again on 4/16/23, 5/3/23, and 6/6/23. Nothing back. Sad

Good mower if the wheels stay on
Writing this review after my first use — Pros: Pre-assembled, great battery life, very user friendly Con: One of the rear tires fell off during the first use and was difficult to get lined up and reattached. Fingers crossed that it’s good to go now, but annoyed by the inconvenience at this price point.

My Toro 163cc 21”gas powered mower finally died after 8 years on Easter. Since I’m already heavily invested into Ryobi Tools, I decided to buy one of their battery powered mowers. It superseded my expectations! It was more powerful than my gas mower and didn’t bog down while scalping and bagging dormant Bermuda grass. I was able to cut my 8,000 sqft lawn a lot faster, and I only used one of the two 6ah batteries!

I used this once and the plastic flap on the back broke- I’m pretty annoyed. Everything on Reddit says it’s not necessary but for $500+ you’d think it wouldn’t break on day one.

Bought the RYOBI 40V HP as a birthday gift for someone. Set it up, and they started it only to have this issue. Now I have to take the present back and return it. Should have listen to all the other reviews. This has been an issue for years. So if you're thinking of buying DON'T.

Easy to use, no gas, oil, and save time!!!
I bought it and used mine today and it was amazing. I read lots of reviews before I decided to buy it. But it worth the money and save me time. I am happy with it. No gas, oil, maintenance, and can cut all my patio in one charge. The second battery I didn't have to use it. Recommend for everyone...

                                  Five start lawn mower
I wanted to upgrade from the corded electrical black and decker, which was still running. After researching, I bout the 21 RYOBI with two batteries. We have other RYOBI tools but this one is a 40v battery while the other tools are 18v. The machine runs amazingly smooth, it’s not noisy (although I still protect my hearing) and I love the self propelled function. I’ve been using it to mulch leaves rather than bagging and it’s been doing an amazing job. use battery and a half and no issues so far.

Blade cut into deck of mower
I used it for the 1st time today and it was good. Great power and only use 1 of the 2 6Ah batteries that came with it mowing my yard. My yard is average size. Charging the batteries were in a timely manner. My only complaint is that when the mower went from cutting a flat surface to an incline or decline the blade would cut into the deck of the mower. The incline or decline was not steep. My guess is the weight of the mower is heavy to the rear causing the deck to flex enough when going over incline or decline that the blade cuts into it. Kind of disappointed since paying almost $700 for it

Ready to use out of the power, quiet ,powerful !
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Tired of my 5th gas mower breaking down and was in market for new mower. A friend of mine purchased a Ryobi rider and i was impressed but that was too much machine for my needs. Ironic, my neighbor was using the model, figured I'd get his on hands opinion and he said without hesitation "Get it, I love it"... so went with this model and wow I'm nothing but impressed! Had 4 months now and its been great! Super quiet, I can mow at 9pm and not disturb the neighbors. Battery charges in an hour or less. Powerful, cuts with ease, honestly has reduced my mow time! Came right out of the box ready to use, which was awesome, was expecting to do some assembly. I am so pleased with this machine I'm going strictly all RYOBI for my electric tools! Next is the weed eater. I highly recommend!

Wow! So amazing!! The Best Mower I've Ever Had!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had a gas mower (different brand) that kept giving me problems with starting and staying running, I then had an electric one (different brand) that worked great but after a summer of dragging the extension cords around and getting tangled I had had enough! I already had a large Ryobi tool collection so I immediately started looking at Ryobi mowers. At first I looked at 18v because I had several batteries already obviously but due to the size of my property I talked myself into the 40v series which I didn't have any 40v yet. I watched for sales and just missed the free trimmer deal by a week. Went to my nearest home depot which was 2 hours away (I live in a small town in Nova Scotia Canada). The sales guy actually honored the deal and also signed me up for the credit card so I got a discount too! I was very happy driving away obviously. Got home, plugged the batteries in to charge and the next day I was mowing with ease!! The cruise control slider helps as you speed up the drive going up hill and slow down going down. It's a no brainer and very quiet and obviously no fumes like my old mower! The 2x 40v 6a batteries mow my entire property on a single charge so that blows my preconceived ideas for it not lasting long enough. I wish it had a dual battery charger but that is something I will deal with. I am now confirming my choice to go for 40v was the best outcome for sure. Love all of my ryobi collection and now chores and hobbies are not only easy but fun... yes I said FUN!!!

I have a lung disease and can't keep up with most normal mowers. This thing goes my speed and WAY more if wanted. Mulcher works great. No clumps.
