How do I treat weeds in my yard?

Is my yard dead?
It could be, but it's also likely napping during those soaring temps. Cool-season grass goes dormant in the summer, so it's alive but sleeping. Here's how you can check to see if it's dormant: If you can easily pull out a blade of grass with no resistance, it's time to plant new sod or seed because the grass is a goner. Water dormant lawns deeply and infrequently. Warm-season grass needs water every few days in the summer. It should stay green if it's healthy.
When's the best time to water grass?
If you can water during the early morning or in the evening, that's ideal. A noon or mid-day watering will evaporate quickly, so come back with an evening watering if possible. This applies to whatever you're growing: plants, veggies, bushes, and grass. Give all the plants a thorough drink, and don't skip it because it's not the best time. The plants still need hydration regardless of the time. Depending on your lawn's health, grass type, and climate, you may also want to look into applying a liquid lawn fertilizer.
When do I fertilize my veggie plants?

Lawn Repair and Patching
Scorched, or burnt, grass has a distinctively shaped discolored patch that isn't green. It happens when metal or plastic sits on the grass and bakes in the sunlight or a reflective surface shines continuously on your lawn. You'll often discover it once you move something that's been sitting out in the yard, like a sprinkler. Car windows or mirrors can also scorch grass when the sun angle is just right.
Water scorched grass well and wait a week. You should see the signs of life returning by then. If it's damaged by pet urine or otherwise unsalvageable, you'll need to use patch and repair seed to fix it up or replace the grass.
Whether you're patching a lawn or doing upkeep on your current one, keep in mind which type of grass it is. Match the kind of grass to how much sun your lawn gets — or to the existing grass type if you're doing patch repair. In other words, if trees shade your lawn so it gets partial shade or dappled sun, make sure you plant sod that prefers shade.
Care for Your Shrubs and Trees

Vertical Vegetable Gardening
If you like to grow your own food, take it vertical and consider growing organically. Many vegetable plants are vines and well-suited to climb a fence or trellis, so plant them next to one and watch them climb. Support the stem itself, as well as the junctions right below where the branches grow off the stem. This is so the weight of the plant doesn't snap the stem or branches.
