but the reason is because it is well-made, has a heavy and POWERFUL 12-amp motor, and DOES WHAT IT IS MADE TO DO. There is no substitute for a high-current motor when it comes to upright vacuums. And I mean amperage, not horsepower! You can fudge a high horsepower figure by spinning the snot out of a low-current motor, which is what a lot of other vac manufacturers do, including Hoover and Dyson. Don't be fooled by clever marketing touting high horsepower - look for how many amps the motor draws, 'cause THAT IS WHAT IT IS AND CAN"T BE FUDGED. Purchased the new 4870 online from Home Depot, have used it 3x a week for almost 6 months, and it sucks as much as the 10 year old one, if not more ('cause it's newer of course) - and that's a GOOD thing when you're talking about a vacuum cleaner!
