The MSDS declares a sulfuric acid concentration between 1% and 51%. That is an extremely broad range and an insufficient answer. So what is it really?

Answer:
Our batteries hold 6 quarts of acid and need to be checked every 4-6 months for low fluid but please do not add more acid. We only recommend that you add distilled water after the first fill since it will change the specific gravity of the acid and will not be good for the battery. Please contact us direction at 800.991.0466 ext. 3 for customer support if you have additional questions

Answer:
Hi Cook,
Each basement watchdog battery requires 6 quarts of acid to activate it.
The package has a pour spout , however it is recommended you use gloves and eye protection when pouring battery acid.
You will use all of the acid at once and you will have no left over acid to store or dispose of.
The acid is good for the life of the battery.

Answer:
Hello cook, I’m Chris from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.
For these Basement Watchdog pumps, you will need to also buy a battery, the acid for the battery, and what ever plumbing pipe you need to connect the pump to your main line out.
I hope this helps,
Chris.

I am considering getting the battery and battery acid, but do not need to activate the battery right away. Does the battery acid have an expiration? In other words, how long is it safe to store it for later use? If so, how long?

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not enough acid If you are filling a Watchdog battery that has 6 openings/cells, be careful that you fill each cell to the same level. The battery instructions ask you to fill each cell to just below the cap, and there was not enough acid supplied to do that. I had to purchase a second box of acid just to get them all level, and I had a LOT of leftover battery acid. May 18, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to fill battery with tubing from the box I bought this product to be used in conjunction with the basement watchdog sup pump combo. It is very to transport because of the shape of the box. I didn't have any trouble filling the watchdog battery with acid to activate it because of the tubing supplied with the box. Definately good way to fill batteries with acid. August 14, 2013
