Use on Fiber Cement Roof Slates

I have a roof with Eternit fiber cement roof synthetic slate. They are showing their age but the original dark gray semi-gloss coating weathering off in a few patches and the white fiber showing through. Actually this a result of pressure washing. My question is, will the Behr coating turn the whole roof flat (no gloss)? Also, will this paint adhere to the areas that are slightly glossy? When I say semi-gloss, it is approximately like natural slate. Please see the attached pix of the weathered and new slates

Answer:
Dear Mark,
Thank you for your question on BEHR® Multi-Surface Roof Paint. The BEHR Multi-Surface Roof Paint has a flat finish so the appearance of your roof would definitely change from a semi-gloss look. Previously coated surfaces need to be wire brushed or scraped to remove all loose coating.
Hope this helps, and best of luck on your project!

Dear Iskabible,
Thank you for your question and interest in Behr Multi-Surface Roof paint. Your best opportunity to match a color to your shingles would be to visit your local The Home Depot store and pick up a color card. This would allow you to compare the color chip directly against the roof shingle and also see how it would appear under the lighting conditions that it would be typically under.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Idea- But Need LOTS of Paint My roof is only 2 1/2 years old but my wife and I wanted to change the color so it matched the siding and shutters. I was happy to find a product like this that I could use on asphalt shingles, and very happy to read about the coverage. Unfortunately, the coverage estimates are no where near accurate for architectural shingles. Rather than one 5 gallon bucket of primer and one 5 gallon bucket of paint for my 1,800 sq foot roof, I had to use 12 gallons of primer and about the same for the paint- I'm waiting for my third order of paint to arrive to finish the project. The cost of the project is triple what I budgeted. I'm using a 1 1/4" nap roller. I'd have to use even more paint if I wanted to cover every shingle overlap entirely. I assume the architectural shingle requires more paint than a traditional style shingle. I wish I knew this before starting the project. My wife and I are thrilled with the look of the roof (we used matte black). April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Product! Saved Thousands! This product exceeded my expectations. I bought a home with a roof in a great shape but I wanted to paint the exterior and the roof color was brown and did not coordinate well. We painted the roof with the charcoal color and it looks amazing! The product has excellent coverage, it took about 5 gallons to cover the roof of a 1920 SF home. The product is pretty thick and imagine it seals up any potential leaks that may be forming as well. I will definitely use again if needed! February 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good stuff.... The "dark" grey was lighter than expected. Dark grey could've been darker for my tastes but that is totally my opinion. I am going with the black next. Wish these came in sample sizes. April 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best paint, Amazing I read on line that if your roof was good and you just wanted to change the color you could paint it. Paint it ???? Well I looked it up and yes you can and Behr was one most people used. So I order two gallons for my shed in Deep Gray. I hated the brown roof that was on it. I power wash the roof let it dry and brush on the paint. I could of used a roller or spray gun but I didn't want the splatter from the roller or over spray getting on the new T1-11 siding I just painted. The paint went on easy , smooth and dried to a finish that it looked like I had new shingles installed. You got to love stuff like this that works 100%. I'm now thinking of doing my house roof next year. I wish I had taken some photos of before and after. It's amazing how it transform the looks. September 30, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good paint, but buy more than you think you need! First of all I LOVE that this paint comes in so many colors, even though I chose "boring" black it was nice to have other options if I so desired. We used it on an OSB roof on our horse shed so not a typical roofing material. It went on really easily and was smooth finish...not like one of the other brands we have tried in the past. In hindsight we should have bought another 5 gallons to do a 2nd coat and will be doing so in the future. Only complaint is that I wish it had more of a sealant factor so we didn't have to go over the roof again with caulk. September 18, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worse Purchase Ever I do rehabs. Have a house with a white tile roof. Power washed and cleaned roof. Sprayed the first coat. It showed poor coverage. Second coat in many areas better, but REALLY how many coats do I need. I am not going to buy 50 gallons of this stuff to get decent coverage. Buyer beware. April 9, 2014
