tint base

What is the difference between this 1 gallon stain and the 5 gal tint base 5077. Looks to me like the same product that can be tinted to any available color. Am I missing something here? Thanks http://www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-Premium-5-gal-Semi-Transparent-Deck-Fence-and-Siding-Wood-Stain-507705/202301620

Not enough stain for two coats.

We were told we would only need one coat for approximately 1700 ft2, so we purchased 5 gallons per the HD sales clerk's calculations. When we got home, we saw that the recommendation on the container was two coats, which means we would have needed another 5 gallons. I can't buy Behr brand stain within 200 miles of my home. Is it ok to do one coat this year, and the second coat next year? How long can we wait before applying a second coat?
Asked by: Sofa
Hello Sofa, I’m sorry to hear you were advised only one coat was needed for out Semi-Transparent Stain. However, in order for our stain to perform as expected and withstand all the weather elements, it requires 2 coats. We would not recommend exceeding more than 2 weeks before applying the second coat. You can also purchase the Semi-Transparent Stain online. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to call us at 1-800-854-0133 Ext. 2. Best regards, Kevin

Deck stain colors?

Hi! Could you recommend any of the Behr deck stain colors that would work with with a house painted black and white with a purple front door? Our outdoor furniture is mainly black wicker with lime green striped cushions. Lots of purple, fuschia, orange out there as well! Thank you for your time!
Asked by: purpledoor1
Hi purpledoor1, Thanks for writing in! You might like a neutral color such as Taupe (ST-153) which will pair well with the house, and let the surrounding accents pop. Chatham Fog (ST-154) is another shade that will create the same feel. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project! Best, Jeanette P.

8-oz. #ST104 Cordovan Brown Semi-Transparent Weatherproofing Wood Stain Sample is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 93.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Glow On Wood Fencing Haven't gone wrong with BEHR coatings yet. The All-In-One Wood Stain & Sealer really lets the wood grain pop out. Covers well, provides a solid film that looks like it will last. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Product We installed our fence about 16 years ago and it looks as good as it did the day that we installed it. We apply Behr Weather Proofing every 3-4 years. We had to replace one post that rotted above the cement holding it and one fence picket that we split replacing the post. Behr Weather Proofing Sealer is the cure for premature aging of the wooden fence. Everyone in our neighborhood questions us how we keep our fence looking so good year after year. We give Behr the credit for the great look of our fence. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great water repellent My deck is almost 30 years old! It is surprising that it has lasted this long. I had a few boards replaced several months ago, but knew if I wanted it to last any longer I would have to apply a good waterproofing product. I shopped at my local Home Depot, who has always been helpful and attentive to my needs (I am 86 years old). They helped me choose the best product and I was thrilled once I had the product applied to my deck. It will probably make my deck last for several more years! Rated 5 out of 5 by from What A Difference! We recently bought my house and the privacy fence was in rough shape. I wanted it to last for as long as possible before replacing it. We decided to go with Behr Semi-Transparent Cedar Naturaltone stain. The difference is unreal. It masked all of the blemishes and made my yard that much better. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old deck...New Life When we bought our house, we were not sure if we could revive the neglected deck. This product not only revived it, but made it look new. We were saved from the great expense of a new deck. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 11 Months. Not 6-8 Years After reading the reviews on Home Depot I decided to try the Behr Semi-transparent deck stain tint base. I chose the chocolate color. I used the stain on a 400 sq ft NEW deck and a 600 sq ft previously stained playset/climbing structure. I allowed the new wood to season for 10 months. Both structures were properly prepared according to the instructions on the back of the can and I used all the recommended Behr products. I stained both structures in the fall of 2015 according to the directions on the back of the can. After staining it took 3 weeks for the product to “cure.” For 3 weeks my children could not use the playset/climbing structure and my family could not use the deck. During these 3 weeks the stain was tacky and would leave visible marks if touched. After the product finally cured it repelled water and worked. This fall of 2016 (only 11 months after application) the stain was bubbling, peeling, flaking, and visible mold was showing. The product only lasted 11 months; 1 of those moths was the “curing/hardening” months. This product did NOT last 6-8 years as advertised.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 4 Months later, wood is absorbing water I applied this on my deck, about 25 years old. The deck was previously coated with a waterproofing product from a different manufacturer. I saw the advertisements for Behr having longer durability than others, and I decided to give it a try. 4 months later, rain water is not beading, but appears to be soaking into the wood. I used it according to instructions, the old clear waterproofing product was off, and no water was beading on the deck. Applied two coats of this product, used just about as much as is suggested based on the square footage for my deck, so I assume the thickness of the application was was at least in the right ballpark. I should add that the deck is barely used. We use our screened in porch, and the deck is next to it, but I only go out there to use the grill, even though that part of the deck is quite large. I think the color of the product is amazing - the deck looks spectacular. The only thing is that it doesn't appear to be 'weather proofing' the wood.
