Customer Questions & Answers

how long will it last before needing to be redone?

Asked by: george
My deck didn't make it through the winter. I used deck over last summer, and my deck looks terrible now! it is peeling and I am going to have to sand my whole deck or replace it now. This product wasn't easy to apply, it's like painting with melted chocolate, and for it not to even last a year.... Wish I would have saved the money and just used stain.

Would anyone recommend this product on a new deck?

Asked by: jmdad75
No, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I put this on my deck, and after the first winter I had peeling. The product looks great after you first put it on the deck; however, the clean look went away after a year. The problem I have now, 3 years later is removing all of it to go back to traditional stain.

How long does the coating last before it starts to crack and peel?

All of the reviews I read said this product is a waste of money and that in less than a year the coating started to crack and/or peel off.
Asked by: Lovelila
This stuff sucks! Ours started peeling from our wood deck within a year. I followed the instructions. I am now trying to find out how to remove the rest. .

1 gal. #SC-120 Ponderosa Green Wood and Concrete Coating is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 1565.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Like I never did it I did my two-tiered deck with DeckOver three years ago starting today. I scraped the deck, made repairs, washed the wood, cleaned between the boards. I did the deck in sections and it looked wonderful when I was finished. I wished I had this paint for inside; every crack and imperfection was filled in. I couldn't be more pleased. By the end of the first winter, about a quarter of the paint had peeled up. It continued to peel. Every time I took the blower out to remove leaves or pine needles, huge sheets of DeckOver came up too. Today marks three years since I started painting, and my deck looks worse than it did before I did anything. This was a total waste of time and money. A lot of time and a lot of money. I am beyond disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not durable at all. Just applied Deck Over to our weathered deck. Pressure washed it first, applied as directed (though a $35 gallon of this stuff for just 75sq ft isn't exactly a lot of bang for your buck.) - two coats, did not walk on it for 4 days, no furniture or flowers pots for 5 days. Less than 2 weeks later, I have chipping on the edge of the steps and near the top of the stairs. There are also gouges where we moved our patio table over a few inches. It is a thick product that doesn't not have a smooth, nice looking finish. I regret using this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money I have always been told that if the product sits on top of the wood it will not last. It will peel and come off. But I thought I would try one more time. Did the proper prep for the surface as always. I have 5 cabins on a lake and a house for winter. I used deckover on all the decks and steps. Gallon after gallon applied and many hours of labor wasted. It is all coming off at a rapid rate. It lasted about a year. Don't waste your money. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from VERY DISAPPOINTED We did two coats last summer on our covered porch at our seasonal cabin. It didn't even hold up a year. For the high price of this product, I expected it to last at least a few seasons.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not last 8 months I grew-up as a painter working for the family business. I know enough to know that prep is critical. I followed directions for prepping my deck. I applied the first coat with a brush. Waited a week then applied a second coat. Finished the second coat in September of 2016. It is now the end on May 2017, We had a mild winter in Denver, Colorado. Went out to the deck today and noticed that the paint was cracked and peeling. Total waste of the money spent on eight gallons.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sad. Terrible product I pressure washed my deck, let dry for a week (no rain), and applied the product as instructed. 7 months later it's peeling up and i have to replace my deck boards. I'm pretty upset that this product has made my life more difficult and expensive. Unfortunately it looks like I'm not alone. Many other reviews like mine!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money and many hours of work. I definitely do NOT recommend this product. We bought 12 gallons less than 2 years ago. We power washed our very large deck and meticulously followed the directions. We spent about a week painting and applying multiple coats. Last summer, we started seeing some of the deck over paint peeling off in spots. This month, only 22 months after applying the product, it's peeling away in large strips allover the deck. I thought this would last at least 5-7 years. It didn't even come close to lasting 2 years. Extremely disappointed. I associate the Behr name with a high-quality product, but that certainly did not bear out this time. We have a friend who applied this product the year before we did on his deck, and he was telling us last year it was a disastrous result for him as well. Now, we're experiencing it first hand. I painted houses before, have stained a deck before on another house we owned, and painted houses for my dad's painting business growing up, so I'm not a "first-time rookie" painter. DO NOT BUY!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What a a costly disappointment!! So much time and money wasted. I spent hours preparing my deck for this product before applying it to insure a good result. The result was good for a year after which the finish started the process of simply peeling off. In the spring even washing off the bird poo with my garden hose wasn't tolerated by the finish. The bad news is I am now tring to strip Restore off my deck. The good news is my leaf blower looks like the answer since Restore can not adhere. Still hours of work ahead of me and more expense.
