The paint adhered to the steel properly. This was about 2-3 weeks ago and the paint is still there. I can't say if it will still be there in 5, 10 or 20 yrs. Read Less

Should I use a primer to prep the surface?

This question is from 5-gal. #S430-5 Longmeadow Satin Enamel Exterior Paint

This is a paint and primer in one. When, or would I ever need to use a primer before using this?

Most of what I am painting has been painted before. Should I just clean the surface first? What about bare wood, or caulk (paintable) that hasn't been painted?

Thank you!

Answer:
Hello Daniel,
Great question. Our Behr Premium Plus Ultra does have self-priming benefits and doesn’t necessarily require a primer over previously painted surfaces. However, adding a primer will help promote extra adhesion and help with the coverage. We recommend cleaning the surface with a mild detergent and water. My recommendation would be to prime unpainted surfaces.
Best regards,
Kevin

Hi Ronnie!
Thanks for writing in with your question! If the paint has already dried on the surface, it can be removed by lightly sanding with a fine grit, such as 150-180 sandpaper. Alternatively, the affected areas can be wiped with a paint/stain overspray remover. I recommend trying the solution in a small test area before applying it over the whole surface. Hope this helps, and good luck! Best, Read More

There are paint removal products for overspray available, but the key is to remove wet paint as quickly as possible from unwanted surfaces before it has dried and cured which can make paint more difficult to remove or to adequately mask surfaces prior to painting if possible.

5-gal. #120B-5 Candy Coated Satin Enamel Exterior Paint is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 215.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Behr Exterior Paint & Primer in One I used this paint for exterior trim work. I was very happy with the coverage, ease of the paint going on, no fumes, and the paint was very affordable. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best paint out there! I have been painting for years and have used many different paints. Behr paints are by far superior to any other paint I have used. The Behr Premium Plus Ultra Satin exterior in particular I used on our previous house which had badly chalked aluminum siding. After cleaning it well with TSP and pressure washing it, I used two coats of Premium Plus Ultra, and it came out beautiful. It has been 11 years since I painted that house, and when we ride by it now, the paint looks as good as when I painted it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Transformed our house! We brought her home last September knowing that it was completely remodeled on the inside but the outside was in desperate need of TLC. We did some looking and found that Behr paint had great reviews so there we were buying paint to paint a whole house. Well our little house doesn't look like the same house anymore we get nothing but compliments the paint applied grade and made our house look brand new. I will recommend this paint to everybody! It is worth the price when the outcome is excellent! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workshop exterior My wife had a particular look she wanted for the exterior of my new workshop. It was not a standard color, so she kept mixing and trying many different blends until she found just the right one. It went on great with one coat and it looks awesome. Also she wanted a stain color for the trim and couldn't find it so we settled on a Marquee color to match the house trim. It wa a perfect match. We could not be happier with the results. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior Paint Job & Affordable Price We have used Behr paint for a number of projects in our remodel & home addition. We have been tempted to choose other paints from time to time because of cost differences, but every time we do, we regret it and end up having to re-paint shortly after. I've never had this problem with Behr paint products. Our most recent project involved re-painting our exterior window frames. After over 60 years, they needed quite a bit of work! We sanded, scraped, caulked, and cleaned the solid wood frames to prep the surface, then painted with Behr Premium Plus Ultra in Ultra Bright White Satin finish. The best part was it took only ONE coat and they looked absolutely as good as new! I would highly recommend Behr products and will continue using them exclusively for all my home improvement needs. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful to work with I used this to revitalize my white front door, had it colored a rich blue. The paint is very easy to work with, allowing me plenty of time to brush in all the crevices without drying out. Provided a super smooth finish. Love the satin sheen! Rated 5 out of 5 by from True color, great coverage This paint did a fantastic job of covering what we weren't able to sand off from a previous owner's botched (and very old) paint job. The dark blue has gotten a ton of complements and after 4 years, the color is still deep and rich despite the severe weather in our area. I was already a fan of Behr's interior paint. I'm now 100% sold on the exterior as well. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Paint used for deck Painted vacation home's deck with this paint tinted red. Went over old wood and turned out beautiful! Couldn't get over how much a gallon covered, especially since it was such dried out wood. Will buy more just for touch-up or when needs painted again as I loved the "barn red" color.
