Is there a tool for cutting this? I would like a square edge to build a small box.

Is there a tool for cutting this? I would like a square edge to build a small box.
Asked by: boxbuilder
Any Utility Knife/Blade will cut this material. If you want nice, clean square edges to make a box, I would suggest you make several shallow cuts instead of trying to cut it completely with one pass. This material is very popular with miniaturists and model builders because of how easy it is to cut and shape. Great stuff.

Can double sided tape be used to attach them together?

I will be attaching four of these together to use on my attic 2'x2' access panel. I would think double sided tape will work fine for this?
Asked by: CoreyF
Unfortunately, Owens Corning does not make any recommendations for using the Foamular Insulation in this way. It has not been tested for its ability to adhere to other surfaces with double-sided tape. Building codes also require that this type of product be covered immediately after installation with a thermal barrier like plywood sheathing or OSB. If you are looking for an insulating cover for your attic door, you may want to look at something like the Attic Stair Insulator.

Can this be used in an attic to keep heat away from attic door?

Asked by: Quinton
Dear Quinton: Yes, you can apply one or more layers to the 'attic' side of your attic door. Foamular provides R5 per inch of thickness. Larger and thicker panels are also available -- just do a search for "Foamular" on the Home Depot website. It is also important to make sure your attic door is well sealed to prevent air leaks. Make sure that weatherstripping is installed around the edge, to seal the door. I hope this is helpful, Mark

I have a door to a porch in a small apartment that was loosing a bunch of heat and letting in the cold due to a single pane window. I cut the insulation to fit and covered the window both inside and out. Now from the inside the window area is warmer than the rest of the door.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Miniature buildings This project panel size is easy to manage. It will be used to build miniature buildings etc... No need to cut up the larger panel which is 4'x 8' ft in length. However, it is pricey. Some HD's panels are warped. I wished HD Marina del Rey carried the 1" 4'x8' pink insulation boards instead. They are more economical. This panels are easy and less messy to carved w/ a knife, hot foam cutter, etc.. Than other kinds of styrofoam.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inconsistent sizing The panels were very inconsistent in sizing, ranging from 23 1/4" to 23 7/8" per side and none I found were square. Typically, a panel would be around 23 1/2" x 23 7/8. I needed them to be reasonably square and they weren't. This was the case with 2 display boxes of them. If you need reasonably consistent sizing, it's better to get a 1" x 48" x 96" sheet and cut your panels from that. Cheaper, as well, although the price would have been fine if the panels were consistent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly as advertised This foam board is exactly as described. It worked well for our needs. We used as a spacer for some exhaust fans, so the fans would look flush. Its cheaper to buy it in larger sizes.
