Q:Will this box work with a recessed outlet? If not, which one would I need?

      Answer This Question

A:  No this box would not work for a recessed outlet. If this is for a flat screen tv on the wall, they make special boxes for recessing the power outlet behind a flat screen tv.

A:  Hi. I've used this with a recessed outlet before. If youn are putting this behind a mounted TV there might be a better product that can handle a recessed outlet and cables.

A:  A sharp strike with a screwdriver or needlenose plier will do it. Do not take them out all the way, they're meant to hold romex secure against the box.

A:  Well they aren't supposed to come out, they hold the wire in place to keep from wiggling around. I will say though I have removed to make life easier. Just grab with a pair of pliers and twist till it pops off seems to be easiest route.

A:  Yes it will fit a gfic outlet. Because those outlets are a little thicker than the normal outlet, the deeper the box the better.

A:  Definitely! I replaced all of the standard mobile home switches in my home with this "old work" electrical box so that I could then install smart switches to be controlled by Amazon's Alexa.

A:  You can recess it in an outside wall. I would use an outdoor light trim kit to mount over the box and then mount your light fixture. Caulk around the trim to keep any water from seeping into your walls. Pay attention to the weight of your light fixture. The fold out wings on the box will hold it in the wall but will not support a very heavy fixture.

A:  I would not use this to attach a light fixture to a ceiling. It uses two plastic clamps to attach to drywall only. I would purchase an outlet box specifically for attaching a ceiling light fixture.
