Q:Adding it as a layer of water proof over wood subfloor, before installing LVP flooring. Can the stove and kitchen cabinet sit directly on it? Also, if the ends are not taped together in order to have it breath, how can it serve as a Water Proof?

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interests in Eco Cork Foam. ECF can be installed where you install you your wood, laminate and LVP flooring. Be sure to follow the flooring installation instructions as it will outline the appropriate order of installation in terms of order of installation and appropriate underlayments for your requirements. As ECF has a 6 mil vapor barrier, we recommend the runs are not sealed together and the perimeter is not secured to allow for moisture vapor to dissipate more freely. If the runs are sealed together on a wood subfloor, you run the risk of trapping moisture under the underlayment, creating an ideal environment for mold and mildew. If you have additional questions, contact our customer service team at 855-810-8922. Good luck with your project!.

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in Eco Cork Foam. ECF is not rigid and has some cushion (3.2mm) that allows for a small amount of movement. Therefore, it is not an ideal underlayment for stone or tile applications. Please visit our website at www.ecfunderlayment.com for more technical information. Please contact our customer service team at 855-810-8922. Good luck with your project.

Q:Redoing a room for a painting studio. The walls are thin layers of wood. There is little insulation and I want to create a sound barrier under plywood and/or lumber to build a wall easel. Would this work between layers if wood as a sound barrier?

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in Eco Cork Foam. ECF has never been formally tested for wall applications because it was designed for interior use with laminate, engineered, hardwood, and vinyl flooring. That being said, ECF does have superior acoustical benefits. However, it does have a moisture barrier pre-attached. For floor aplications, we always recommend not sealing the runs together on a wood subfloor to allow for moisture to dissipate more freely. We receive messages every day from happy consumers who share their interesting projects with us, and have seen this done before. Please feel free to check out our website for more information and check out our installation videos at www.ecfunderlayment.com. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our customer service team at 855-810-8922, if you have additional questions.

Q:According to energy star's website, my zone's recommended floor insulation values should be between R25 and R30, but your rating is R 0.47. Is this product using a different insulation value or is there another chart I should be referring to?

A:  Thank you for your interest in Eco Cork Foam. It can be quite difficult to navigate the road of compatible materials with so many resources for consumers. With hundreds of manufacturers and thousands of brands, it can be difficult to stay abreast of this in a constantly changing market. That being said, The Energy Star website does not post requirements for floor toppings, in terms of underlayment or flooring. We are very familiar with the Energy Star program and the R25-R30 refers to the wall insulation. You can find the requirements in your specific area. Here is a link to the resource --> https://www.energystar.gov/saveathome/seal_insulate/identify_problems_you_want_fix/diy_checks_inspections/insulation_r_values. Q:Can I double it / put down 2 layers? I would like to have twice the R Value

              Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in Eco Cork Foam. At 1/8” or 3.2 mm thick, ECF is roughly twice as thick as the competition. This density equates to an R value of 0.48, which means that ECF provides serious insulation, not to mention its capacity to reduce drafts. It is not recommended that 2 layers be used together as there is the possibility of trapping moisture between layers, potentially creating the ideal environment for mold and mildew. If you have additional questions, reach out to our Customer Service Team at 855-810-8922. Good luck with your project.

                Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in Eco Cork Foam. ECF will work brilliantly with your laminate flooring and is the most advanced All-in-one underlayment on the market. ECF is comprised of granulated cork and polyethylene foam, with a 6 mil polyethylene vapor barrier. As polyethylene is inherently waterproof. The self sealing strips are not utilized on a wood subfloor to allow moisture vapor to escape. We are also happy to report that ECF is infused with Ultra Fresh antimicrobial treatment to inhibit the growth of odor causing mold, mildew and bacteria. You really can worry less with ECF. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact our customer service team at 855-810-8922. Good luck with your project !

A:  Thank you for your interest in Eco Cork Foam. The GREAT NEWS is that ECF is approved for use with radiant heat systems, and will work brilliantly with engineered flooring. As installation requirements vary by brand, we always recommend the flooring manufacturers installation instructions are followed. They will stipulate approved underlayment's in terms of composition, thickness and order of installation. This is the safest way to avoid voiding your flooring warranty. If you have additional questions, contact our customer service team at 855-810-8922. Best of luck with your project!

Q:I want to use this as a vapor barrier on slab. On top of the ECF, I want to put a double layer of 3/8 plywood (glued and stapled together) floating subfloor. Then, I want to nail solid 3/4 hardwood into the plywood. Is ECF suitable for this purpose?

A:  Thank you for your interest in Eco Cork Foam. The simple answer is yes. If moisture control is you main objective, you have selected the right underlayment. As you are working with concrete as your primary subfloor, ensure the runs of underlayment are secured using the included self sealing strips for a waterpoof seal. ECF is comprised of polyethylene/granulated cork and a 6 mil vapor barrier. No other underlayment on the market can offer an underlayment with such a low permeance and water vapor transmission rate. If you have additional questions, contact our customer service team at 855-810-8922. Good luck with your project.

                          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in Eco Cork Foam. ECF was created as an underlayment for wood, laminate and LVP flooring that is 5mm or greater in thickness. ECF is the only underlayment on the market comprised of a polyethylene/cork foam teamed with a patented 6 mil vapor barrier. These features ensure ECF has the lowest permeance and water vapor transmission rate in the flooring underlayment category. Due to this low permeance, there is the possiblity of trapping moisture between the cork underlayment and ECF. If you are installing ECF over a concrete subfloor, it is recommended that the included self sealing strips are utilized. If installing on a wood subfloor, do not use the self sealing strips as this will allow moisture vapor to dissipate more freely. If you have additional questions, contact our customer service team at 855-810-8922. Good luck with your project!
