A: Yes, Model # 9910-035 / 991J 11P SMT CP K4 comes keyed alike in sets of four. To have the lockset match with the same key, please search for a highlighted keyed alike number at the bottom of the box. These are typically merchandised together on the shelf when you purchase the lock at your local Home Depot.

Q:Does this come with 2 sets of keys or just one key for each lock?

Answer This Question
A: When you purchase the set, they are keyed alike and come with at least two keys. We use these locks often and really like the ability to quickly rekey them. I rekeyed eight locks in under 5 minutes yesterday at a rental property I manage. It's great as the owner only has to pay the cost of the rekeying kit, which is around $11.00 total, versus paying $80-100.00 for a locksmith each time a property turns over.

Q:So my question is: What?s stopping a thief from buying one of these doorknob sets, getting the rekey tool, and then using it to change the key to whatever key they have on hand? While also gaining access to the property? Great concept but a bit concerned.

A: You have to have the original key in order for you to be able to replace it with a new key
by|Mar 5, 2023
A: Good question,, however changing to a new key (using the SmartKey system) does "require" insertion of the existing key before the lock can be changed to a new key. So, unless they steal your current key they cannot change to a new key like you can. That system is really efficient to work with - saving both time and money.

A: You need to have the original key inserted. It doesn’t work with just use any key.

A: This model can be ordered with the same keys by indicating the quantity at the end of the model (K2, K3, K4, K6). SmartKey products can be re-keyed at the consumer level at any time to the other Kwikset key by following the re-keying instructions but is not compatible with other brands. SmartKey security is an added feature that allows only someone with the current working key to re-key the lock cylinder to a different key.

Q:I noticed Home Depot offers combo's on entry handles and dead bolts, for example Premier also offers (a 3-pack) for this product. My question is, does Kwikset offer any

Q:I don't understand where the "new key" comes from. Must you have a new key made or does the SmartKey tool make the lock work with any Kwikset key?

A: Our SmartKey locks are compatible with 5-pin (K1 and K5) and 6-pin (K10) keyways. You can re-key your lock to any current key or purchase the SmartKey Re-Key Kit which includes new keys and the SmartKey learn tool: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Kwikset-SmartKey-Security-Re-Key-Kit-REKYG-KIT-CP-SMT-KW/202279362

A: It will work with any quickset key.

A: Each lockset (or paired knob and deadbolt set) comes with it's own keys. In my case I was replacing 5 locksets so I had 5 different pairs of keys. The beauty of these locks is that instead of taking all your locks to a locksmith and having them all keyed alike, you can easily do it yourself by following the re-keying instructions included with the locksets. In my case, if I ever loose a key, I'll go to each door and re-ket the locks with one of the unused keys and then all I'l have to do is have new keys made as necessary. I suppose, as long as you made sure the locksmith used the correct key blanks, you could also have your own custom keys cut and use those instead. Hope this helps.

A: The "new" key is actually the key that comes with the "new" set of locks. It is what you need in the directions on re-keying the new locks. Or are using a key from a different kwikset lock. You don't need to buy a new key.
