Q:If I want to use this as a subpanel, do I need to buy zero, one, or two grounding bars?
I want to ensure that ground is separated from neutral. Do I need to buy a separate grounding bar for that, or does this box already have that?

The Neutral bar was included.

Q:Where can i find just the cover for this. I have an existing one with an open face and would like to buy just the cover. I am unsble to find it

Answer This Question
A: Hello Jason,
The cover part number would be 4055345351. Just a heads up though, labeling is not supplied on the replacement cover and the cost of the replacement cover may be close to, or exceed, the cost of a new device. You may want to consider buying a new device and use the new cover on the existing device.

Q:Can I install this panel upside down?

Answer This Question
A: Hello DobermanLA,
This load center can be Top Fed, but the load center CANNOT be rotated for bottom feeding. To bottom feed, the incoming wires can enter through the bottom endwall and either go directly into the Main Lugs, depending on the load center interior layout, OR the wires can be fed up past the interior through the gutter area and looped around into the Main Lugs.

Q:The installation guide indicates that you can only install tandem qo breakers in spaces that have slots. It does not say that every space has a slot. So, how many tandem qo breakers does this main lug load center hold?

Q:Can I feed the power to this load center through this breaker: QO 40 Amp 2-Pole Circuit Breaker (Model QO240CP) and if I can, do I remove the main power lugs or just leave them there? Thanks.

Answer This Question
A: Hello,
For the QO816L100DS you can use a QO240CP as a branch mounted backfed main. You will also need a PK2MB retaining kit. The main power lugs are not removed.

A: This should work as long a you do not try to draw more than 40 Amps total from the panel. Otherwise the breaker may trip. Be sure to use wire no smaller than #8.

Q:IF I HAVE ONE CIRCUIT WITH 2 30 AMP SINGLE-POLE BREAKERS IN IT. WILL IT BE A 60 AMP CIRCUIT.
by|Mar 9, 2019

Answer This Question
A: No, it will be 2 separate 30 amp circuits. The total load will be 60 amps max, but it won't be a single circuit.
by|Mar 11, 2019
A: No. If they are on the same circuit with both switches connected/tied together that would make it a double-pole 30 amp 240 volt circuit breaker. A 60 amp breaker is labeled 60 amps.

A: Hello John,
The tandem QO circuit breakers take one pole space with 2 circuits. It would be (2) 30A circuits. The maximum load would be 60A on the pole space, but would only have (2) 30A circuits.

Q:Can this be used as a subpanel in a garage? Or does that require a wet rated panel?
by|Nov 27, 2018

Answer This Question
A: To my knowledge, you do not need a 'wet-rated' panel for your garage since it will not be directly impacted by weather.

A: Hello,
The QO816L100DS can and has been used as a sub panel. It is a NEMA 1 indoor rated panel. A fully enclosed garage is considered to be NEMA 1 and out of the elements of rain, snow, sleet and ice.

A: Yes, as long as it's used indoors, it can be used in a garage. A wet rated panel would be used, for example, as a service cutoff for a hot-tub or a breaker panel for a dock.

A: I installed this exact panel in my garage as a subpanel. I was able to mount it on the wall behind the main panel on the outside of the garage and run the feed wired straight back through the wall. Be sure to check local electrical codes. I suggest talking with the building inspector who will inspect the installation. I had no trouble at all with this box. I used it to feed a 240 VAC Level 2 charger for my Chevrolet Bolt as also a few utility outlets in the garage.
