    Great unit
Have run cherry, tupelo gum, old fire hardened bourbon barrel staves thru and it works fantastic. If you have a lot of money go buy a more expensive unit so you can brag I just spent 1200. dollars on a new planner.

    This product worked great!!!!
It was easy to set up took only a few minutes. Checked the in feed and out feed tables and they were level with the bed. I ran a piece of cherry thru with no snipes.

    worth the money
This is by far the nicest planer I've ever had!! It's relatively light weight, small, surprisingly quiet, and easily handles a full 12 inch wide board up to 6 inches thick. I have not run any hardwoods through it yet, but based on how nicely it finished fir, pine, redwood, and cedar, I suspect it will have no trouble with harder materials. If you don't have a chip removal system I recommend either using it outside or hooking a large shop vac to it, but be carefull, the vac fills up quickly.

    Very well made machine
The good: -Quite operation -Included folding in feed/out feed tables. -Very little snipe. 2-1/2 inches on the in feed, zero on the out feed for mine. Took about 15 seconds with 80 grit to clean it off. -Very smooth finish -Compact, and ready to go out of the box. The not so good: -The 3 inch, hard to find dust hood needs to be included. Finding adapters to fit it to your vacuum or D.E. will take some hunting. Overall I am very pleased with the performance of this machine and at about $60.00 ... read more less than the other top rated planer that begins with a 'D' and colored yellow, it's also a better buy. -Aaron

    Fantastic tool
My old Jet 12" planar had just quit working. I read several online reviews and this one got outstanding marks. I have bought many other Makita tools and they were always great. However, this planar seems to be the best. The boards are *REALLY* smooth. Snipe is very minimal, much less than professional/big planars. The cut is so smooth it looks like it has been sanded. I have been working with African Mahogony (pretty soft) which is prone to tear-out, but this planar almost doesn't tear anything ... read more out. It is really an outstanding planar. Definitely worth the money. I should have bought it years ago! The controls and overall design are very well thought out. Though fairly heavy, the design allows you to carry it with both hands, so it isn't difficult. I have only used it a few times so far, but it is way ahead of my original Jet planar ever was.

    Simple Wood Projects
I bought this joiner to make wider boards out of the stock red oak boards offered at Home Depot. The biscuit joiner was the perfect tool for my needs. Additionally, the stock red oak 1 x 6 boards I bought at HD were of sufficient quality that I was able to join them without additional planing to clean up the sides, and the joints came out just fine. I first used the tool to make some "floating" nightstands, then a simple tray table. They both came out great. The tool is simple to use, came with ... read more good instructions, and the biscuits and glue were also available at HD. And, Home Depot had the best price I could find on the DeWalt joiner. All in all, a satisfied customer.

    Easy. To use
I used the joiner to join mahogany boards for a dining room table top. I watched several you tube videos of how to use a joiner. Easy to use, table top looks great!

Excellent addition to the tool arsenal
Excellent, well built tool from Dewalt! Almost all my tools are now yellow as I can always rely on them when needed to perform. This joiner is a little more money than your average one but spend the extra and you will be pleased! I had a pc in the past but nothing compared to this tool. As mentioned you will need to buy biscuits as this does not come with any. Free shipping to boot!

    Works great!
We are building a rather large home with some rustic beams and exposed beam trusses. After ordering ruff cut cedar the wife decided they where to ruff cut so I needed a way to plan down the 8"x8"x24' ruff cut cedar beams. Even though it's not quite 8" wide with two passes it did the job. It made a lot of cedar chips. The 6"x6" beams where a piece of cake after planning the 8x8 and it was a lot cheaper then a thickness planner that could handle such capacity. The planer is great and well made but ... read more the wooden box it comes in while neat it's not very durable.

    GREAT PLANER
GREAT LITTLE PLANER FOR THE MONEY, IT DOES NOT COME WITH A ADAPTER FOR A DUST BAG. HAD TO ORDER ONE ONLINE, EXTRA $16 BUCKS. OTHER THAN THAT WORKS GREAT. IF DEWALT IS READING THIS, PLEASE COME OUT WITH A CORDLESS MODEL...

Great planer but lacks dust collection
I had this up and running in minutes and I have to say it planes boards very well. I haven't tried the attachments as they seem a bit cheap and not really necessary. I gave it 5 stars because it performs its main purpose very well. However, like any planer would it blows wood shavings out the exhaust port like crazy and no dust bag or attachments are included. You can buy a dust collector attachment but it isn't easy to find. Google search part number 5140090-45 and you should find it for about $6.

    Excellent product!
Forget the brand name, this thing performs! Solidly built, consistent cuts, doesn't bog down in hard woods. Dust collection system is amazing. As long as you empty it before it's packed full it leaves NOTHING behind. Excellent value, solid tool.

great low cost well performing biscuit joiner
I used this product to join together 1x8x8 solid oak boards to make an entertainment center from 150 year old barn oak flooring. Very hard wood. This light weight joiner stayed exactly on its setting where I put it throughout the entire job. Slots are accurate and the biscuits fit snugly no forcing at all and not one bit of wiggle. It will be a long time before I wear out this joiner

    Perfect joints every time
After messing with mortise and tenon, dowels and other joining methods, this biscuit joiner is a breeze! I don't know what I ever did without it. And I'm finding new uses already - picture frames, etc.

    Needed a Little Dialing In
I bought this planer to replace another which had a severe defect, and was somewhat disappointed to find this one had issues as well. It would cut a swath on the left side only on a flat board when set to zero. After several attempts at adjusting the knives, I determined that the edge of one carbide knife would repeatedly stick out about .010" too far when the hold down bolts were tightened. I believe this is caused by a poorly manufactured clamp, as it was the same with different blades. I ... read more resolved it by installing single edge one-piece carbide blades (more money). It now cuts like a dream.

    Easy to use.
After looking at several hand planers the Makita looked to be better made than others. I have used this planer for working down rough sawn white oak that is to big and heavy to go through my 12" floor planer. So far I love this hand planer and hope it gives me many years of service.

this planer has the power to do the job.
I am very happy with this planer, it has enough power to plane oak planks that I milled last year; it gets the job done. My only complaint so far is that it does not zero out, the blade does not retract all the way, so I am always cutting. This 7.5 amp model was not available in the store. When delivered the box looked like it was through a war and the planer and parts were rattling around inside the box, and there was no manual (its available on the internet). It came with a guide, but I still ... read more haven't figured out what it is supposed to do. I have to wonder if the planer was knocked out of alignment when shipped, the box had definitely been opened. there's no directions on how to calibrate the depth gauge. Just a poor presentation, shame on someone.

    Great purchase
I shopped extensively before buying this planer. I know one of the people in the tool department at home depot personally. and he, a retired pro, gave me the thumbs up on the tool. Initially, I needed it to level some sub floors that I was prepping for hard wood. This tools walked through the 100 year old tongue and grove like a hot knife through butter. I was replacing several door in the house and this planer mad fitting the doors a snap. I have used the heck out of this tool and it has never ... read more failed to preform. It's worth every penny I paid for it. Warning, if you are planning a lot of material, you need to hook up a vacuum. This is a con, just a reality.

    Works well- needs case!
Solid construction and straight-forward to use. The fence attachment is a little awkward to assemble and attach but works as it should. It's disappointing that this does not come with a case or carry bag of some sort. Mine sits in the box in my workshop most of the time but if you need to carry it from job to job frequently this is a significant drawback. The blade may get dinged and fence and dust bag lost as this thing bounces around in your truck or van.

I gave it a kiss when I was done
I had to trim down window jams to match uneven dry wall. I marred up some of the walls but paint will fix it and once I learned how to finesse it the marring stopped and I had nice level planes. Cuts through finish nails too and has extra blades included that are reversible. No regrets buying this tool.
