Date: January 30, 2021 As a previously loyal customer, I am writing to advise Home Depot of my recent disappointment in trying to do business with one of your stores located in Hackensack New Jersey. On January 6, 2021 I placed an order to purchase two appliances a refrigerator and a dishwasher. The order was to be delivered to my home on January 16, 2021. Upon arrival the delivery person asked me if there was any other way to bring the appliances in, other than the front door. I informed him that the front entry is the way all major appliances are delivered to my home. He then claimed he could not bring it in that way because my bushes were in his way. At this point I want to give you a backdrop of my history with Home Depot. I have purchased at least (15) major appliances over the last (15) years. More than half of them have come through the front door, including (2) Refrigerators, (3) Ranges and (2) Dishwashers. All of which came past those same bushes. I advised the delivery person of that history. I also reasoned that they were just bushes which can easily be pushed out of his way and had been done by every previous delivery team. He showed no interest in that information or reasoning. I then advised him that the front entry was the only way to bring large appliances into the kitchen. He again told me he could not bring it in that way because of the bushes. At that point I told him to take it back because there was no other way to do it and I would be seeking a refund from Home Depot if he did make the delivery as I asked. He dismissed that with complete disinterest. I called the Hackensack store where I made the purchase and advised them of the situation. The only thing they had to offer was to buy a smaller appliance. I let them know I was not interested in purchasing a smaller appliance and since I had purchased several other appliances there and had them delivered via the same route I saw no reason to change my purchase. After experiencing a rather dismissive attitude on both ends I advised the sales agent I was speaking to, to cancel the order. Five days later I got a call asking me if I wanted to continue with the delivery. Frankly I thought it was odd since I thought the delivery was cancelled already. But since the person offered to arrange for a different team to make the delivery I agreed. Wednesday January 27, 2021 was agreed to. I even went to the extent of cutting back my bushes to create a greater clearance. I also removed doors and put down protective floor covering all of which took several hours and was very disruptive to my home. On the 27th I got no call and after no one showed up my Wife called the store. She was informed that there was no delivery scheduled. This set of events has left a very bad taste in my mouth for Home Depot deliveries. It solidified my desire to get my money back. Considering that the order was evidently cancelled on January 16th when I originally called I am confused why I was contacted to reschedule the delivery. Further since the order was cancelled on the 16th I don’t understand why there was no effort to return my money at that time and why was I forced to take time out of my schedule to go to the store to get my refund. Historically I have made all my major appliances purchases as well the remodeling of my entire kitchen using Home Depot. I have spent easily over $50,000 with Home Depot. But this distasteful experience has caused me to seriously reevaluate my relationship with your company and seek my purchase of major appliances elsewhere. As the deliveries are apparently made by a third party, as I re-evaluate my relationship with you, I recommend you reevaluate your relationship with that third party delivery service. I may not be the only customer you may lose because of them. Further as I am an Architect I have also endorsed Home Depot with clients for appliances and materials of construction. But after this experience I cannot continue to do that and I am compelled to share what I have observed in this series of events.
