I have installed a couple of these 3/4 inch adapters recently, and a half dozen of the 1/2 inch size. I had no problem sweating them. I wire brushed both surfaces and used a good flux. Oatey No. 95 petroleum-based tinning flux worked great, but I also had good results with Oatey's H2O-95 water-based tinning flux. The latter is less forgiving and more difficult to use, but eliminates the insoluble sludge inside the pipe and is easier to clean up on the outside. I used Oatey Safe Flo lead free solder. I was able to test all of these sweat assemblies with air before installing in my house. All of them had no detectable air loss, 2 hrs at 100 psi. After installing in my house, I did not have one drop of water leak out either end of these adapters at roughly 60 psi. Great Results! I'm a DIY'er.

I've been in plumbing bussines for over 15 years and never had problems sweating copper but this product just doesn't work with copper! Had to do few of them none would work, all leaked. Who makes this stuff and release it to the market? It's borderline criminal.

The only problem with PEX sweat adapters is that they do not sweat adapt. All of my copper to copper joints solder with ease. So do the copper to brass outdoor faucet joints. But try and try and try again and there is no luck with either of the PEX sweat adapters. Use a copper pipe thread adapter instead. I wish I had saved myself the time, money, and frustration. Horrible product...

I had the same problem as others - did a job where I had to sweat about 20 connections... this was the only one that leaked. So I cut it out, bought another identical fitting, put it all together, and it leaked again! Cleaned everything, fluxed it, heated it up... solder melted but wouldn't really get sucked into the joint. I came on this website just to see if anyone else had this problem because I thought I was going crazy. Really irritating - I have spent hours on this one stupid connection now. I will not buy sharkbite fittings that have a sweat end again.

I have sweat copper for 30 + years. This would not suck solder. Had to go back to HD and mickey mouse fittings to make this work. It was on my main water line. Not sure about the shark bite couplings.

Every one of my solder joints failed. The only thing I can think of is that there is oil residue on the fitting from manufacturing. I had to cut out the fitting, use a copper coupling and a female pex adapter so I could save the pex piping. Next time I will try cleaning with acetone. Very disappointing.
