my 100 year old plaster walls have a rough finish that is painted. I had to do some patching and, when sanded, the patch area is smooth. I want to add some "roughness" to the final painting of the patched area. Will a high nap paint roller accomplish this?

Answer:
This high napped cover should only be used on surfaces that are very rough - like cinder blocks, chain link fencing or heavy stucco. On smoother surfaces it will slip and skid, rather than give you the "roughness" you are looking for. The person recommending the Homax texture product is right on.

Hello Howard!
Thank you for your question!
A "rough" nap, or high nap, roller is meant to be used on rough surfaces, such as brick or concrete. It will not leave a rough texture. In order for you to achieve a rough texture, you will need to use paint with a texture such as this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Homax-Sand-Texture-Paint-Additive-8474/202061377

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does a great job! I have very roughly textured walls that require a thick nap roller. This one does the job of filling most of the indentations although I did have to go back to touch up a few that I overlooked due to poor lighting. I could not blame the roller. Because I had so much square footage to cover, I was unable to do it all in one day so I wrapped the roller very tightly in plastic wrap until the next day when I resumed the job. May 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High roller Had to paint over a textured wall and the roller stood up for the entire time. the paint went on smoothly and covered well. March 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for painting acoustic ceilings Acoustic and popcorn ceilings are always a pain to paint - but these high-density rollers worked very well for our project! January 15, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by did what it was bought for. the roller was used on wood and concrete and a good job on both. July 14, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible This roller cover doesn't hold much paint and what it holds it splatters the paint everywhere. It takes more time to paint a surface than if you were to use a regular roller cover. June 2, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Qualioty Roller! I was painting a living room with a existing "pinkish" color. This roller absorbed the paint so nicely and put down a wonderful even coat of paint. Easy to roll and no drips. Good cover. March 10, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works like it should Worked fine, had to repaint some areas but that was more do to the type of wall than the roller March 10, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decent value Worked very well on a concrete block wall with a very heavy paint. Lasted about 4 gallons then I felt I needed a new one. December 17, 2014
