I ordered three of these windows and framed in my R.O. to 26.25 x 47.25 as this was listed as the R.O. in the Specifications but the overview says the R.O. is 26.25 x 41.25. I am supposed to receive them today and am not going to be happy if I have to replace my cripple jacks and splice in a piece of sheathing

Answer:
Hello Campgrrl,
You should have at least the space created by 2 pcs. of 2x4= 3" but 3pcs. of 2x4 is preferable. The nailing fins should not be overlapped.
Thank you for your inquiry.

We purchased a very old mobile home, paid for, so no one can take it away... So now its time to fix it up.

1st- On the option of new construction or replacement. Which would work better with housewrap like Typar? The exterior will be down to the stud, and adding OSB for the Typar, then the windows and new siding.

2nd- Would it be less expensive to special order these windows with full screens or order them with 1/2 screen and get the full screen at a later time.

3rd Can both windows be taken completely out, or just opened inward to clean?

4th The argon gas, an answer to other windows had a reply "The 70 Series Double Hung Fin windows are standard with Lowe3 and Argon" Does it apply to this window since it is the 70 series ?

5th, what are the "14 options available", that is listen on Home Depots search results?

Thank You

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Make sure you have all the pieces upon purchase! We have now replaced 18 windows in our house. 16 of the 18 installs went well. However, the last two windows we purchased were missing the head expander (or cap) piece upon purchase. We did not know this until the day of the actual install after we had 2 big holes in the side of our house waiting to slip the windows into place. Since Home Depot did not have extra head expander pieces, and after many phone calls and several trips to local stores that specialize in windows, we found a local window installer who had a few extra head expanders laying around that we were able to purchase. My recommendation: Make sure you check the package for all pieces when you get it home so you don't run into this same problem! June 21, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good window for the price Over the past year, I have purchased 4 of these windows in various sizes. They are very easy to install and look good. I like that they have an outside screen that covers the entire window, not just the bottom as some other windows do. The only downside is that they seem to transmit a lot of outside noise. Especially for being a double pane insulated window. I can live with this since I live in a small quiet town, but I can hear the train when it comes through about 1 mile away. With that said, they are far superior to the old wooden single pane windows they are replacing on our 1929 home. April 8, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't buy Bought and installed about 20 windows in my home from American Craftsman, of those probably 8 need replacing. Most of those are because over time the glass gets 'etched' markings making it difficult to even see out of. I've had 2 where the window hinges that allow you to open inward to clean have broken off. To clean these now I need to go outside because you can't get the windows re attached after they are flipped inward. They don't seal worth a darn either. They look nice (if the glass isn't etched) and if you are replacing rotted 1920's windows they will offer a benefit but they are junk in the long run. Spend a bit more and get better quality. I regret buying these and of course the etching thing happen after the 90 day return policy. JUNK! October 4, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good window for the price I added this window during a bathroom remodel. I may opt for higher quality windows when I replace all of the existing single pane wooden windows(stained inside), but this is in a location that allowed using a vinyl window. I could not find double hung new construction with full screen in this size in any local big box or window outlets. Online ordering was easy and the window was delivered promptly and well packaged. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Window for the price thus far We purchased 5 of these windows for a wall that was essentially rebuilt. Installation was actually a breeze. The price couldn't be beat. The windows function well, but I have some concerns about how they will perform into the future. The spring string mechanism that aids in the lift and hold in the operation of the windows seems a little... wonky, but all have held up for now (about 1 month) without issue. I think the insect screen may be a location thing. Ours all came with the full screen top and bottom. I have read where others came with a half screen. Guess you will have to check with your local store which one is offered in your area. Overall we are pleased with our purchase. October 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent window at a modest price I installed 2 of these windows to replace rotted out wood windows in our Lakefront home. They Look great and seal well and easy to clean with the tilt out feature. It is my hope that the vinyl will be a long term solution to the effects of being close to the water. I will be replacing another 3 windows and intend to use these windows as well. American Craftsman thanks for a great product. May 12, 2013
